Los Angeles airport transfersThe right shape for a day in Downtown Los Angeles with several stops. The car waits between meetings, and parking is not your problem.
Hourly chauffeur in Los AngelesPalm Springs, San Diego, Santa Barbara and beyond, door to door, with your luggage staying in the car the entire way.
Intercity rides from Los AngelesPort of Los Angeles, Port of Long Beach, timed to embarkation windows rather than to the clock, with luggage handling included.
Los Angeles cruise transfersA Los Angeles chauffeur service is pre-arranged ground transport booked ahead at a fixed price, carried out by a licensed for-hire operator. It is not hailed on the street and not dispatched on demand. The vehicle, the chauffeur and the price are all settled before the day of travel, whether the booking is a LAX airport transfer, an hourly car service or a black car to a morning meeting.
In practice that distinction decides what happens when things go wrong. A metered taxi and a surge-priced app both re-price themselves when traffic turns or the weather does. A reserved Los Angeles car service booking does not. The number you agreed is the number you pay, and it already contains the tolls, the airport access fees and the taxes.
The same reservation covers the rest of the region: Hollywood Burbank transfers, John Wayne Orange County transfers, Long Beach transfers, and a car service to Palm Springs when the trip runs further out. For companies moving people through the city regularly, corporate travel in Los Angeles adds central billing and duty-of-care reporting on top of the same fleet.
Which one is right depends far more on where you are going than on which is nearest. Each has its own page with terminal detail and pickup arrangements.
| Airport | Distance | Typical drive, off-peak | Typical drive, peak | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Los Angeles InternationalLAX | 18 miles | 35 to 55 min | 60 to 110 min | International arrivals, long-haul, and the Westside |
| Hollywood BurbankBUR | 14 miles | 25 to 35 min | 40 to 70 min | Hollywood, the studios and the Valley. Much the easier arrival |
| John Wayne Orange CountySNA | 40 miles | 45 to 65 min | 1h 15 to 2h | Newport Beach, Irvine and all of Orange County |
| Long BeachLGB | 25 miles | 35 to 50 min | 55 to 95 min | The South Bay, Long Beach and the cruise terminal |
| Van NuysVNY | 22 miles | 30 to 45 min | 50 to 90 min | Private aviation, and one of the busiest such fields anywhere |
| Ontario InternationalONT | 40 miles | 45 to 65 min | 1h 15 to 2h | The Inland Empire and the eastern approach |
Drive times are door to door from the arrivals kerb, not gate to gate, and they assume a direct private vehicle rather than a shared shuttle. Peak means roughly 07:00 to 10:00 and 15:30 to 19:30 on a weekday.
Los Angeles is the market where the difference between a pre-arranged chauffeur and an app is most visible, because at LAX the app does not come to the terminal at all.
App and taxi passengers at LAX are directed to LAX-it, a holding lot east of Terminal 1 reached by shuttle bus or a substantial walk. On a busy evening the shuttle queue, the ride, the second queue and the wait routinely add forty five minutes to an arrival, and it is the single most complained-about airport experience in the United States. Pre-arranged chauffeur bookings do not use LAX-it. Your chauffeur works from the terminal's designated pre-arranged pickup area, or meets you inside on a meet and greet booking, and you leave from the terminal.
The Central Terminal Area, universally called the horseshoe, is a single loop road serving nine terminals, and it is in the middle of a long modernisation programme including the Automated People Mover. Roadways, lanes and pickup zones inside the horseshoe have moved repeatedly and will move again. Nothing printed in advance can be trusted here; the chauffeur confirms the current arrangement on the day.
Distance in Los Angeles is not a useful measure of anything. LAX to Beverly Hills is eleven miles and can take seventy minutes. Burbank to Hollywood is eight miles and takes twenty. The 405 between the airport and the Westside is the most consistently congested freeway in the country and there is no clever alternative, only surface streets that are slower in a different way. Every quoted time on this page is a range for that reason, and the upper end is not a worst case, it is a Tuesday.
For anyone with a choice of airport, Burbank is the quiet answer. It is closer to Hollywood, the studios and the Valley than LAX is, it is small enough to walk out of in five minutes, and it turns a ninety minute arrival into a thirty minute one. When the schedule allows it, it is usually the better booking.
Details above were checked against public sources at the time of writing. Rates, terminal assignments and construction timelines in this section change faster than any website updates, so treat your chauffeur's message on the day as the authority.
Published transfer times are usually the best case. These are ranges, and the upper end happens often enough to plan around.
| Route | Off-peak | Weekday peak | What moves it |
|---|---|---|---|
| LAX to Downtown Los Angeles | 35 to 50 min | 60 to 110 min | The 105 and the 110, or surface streets when they fail |
| LAX to Beverly Hills and West Hollywood | 35 to 50 min | 60 to 105 min | The 405 north, the most reliably congested road in America |
| LAX to Santa Monica and Venice | 20 to 35 min | 35 to 70 min | Lincoln Boulevard, the shortest of the LAX runs |
| LAX to Hollywood | 35 to 55 min | 60 to 110 min | La Cienega or the 405 to the 10, neither is quick at five |
| LAX to Pasadena | 45 to 65 min | 75 to 130 min | Right across the basin, the longest common LAX run |
| Burbank to Hollywood and the studios | 20 to 30 min | 30 to 55 min | Over the hill on the 101 or Barham, and much easier than LAX |
Each route above has its own page with pricing by vehicle class, the roads actually used and the times worth avoiding.
Intercity runs are priced as one fixed fare for the whole journey, not per hour, so the traffic is our problem rather than yours.
| Destination | Distance | Typical drive | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Palm Springs | 110 miles | 2h to 3h 30 | The 10 east, and Friday afternoons are genuinely bad |
| San Diego | 120 miles | 2h to 3h 15 | The 5 south, and Camp Pendleton is the pinch point |
| Santa Barbara | 95 miles | 1h 45 to 2h 45 | The 101 up the coast, beautiful and slow |
| Las Vegas | 270 miles | 4h to 6h | Sunday afternoons on the 15 northbound are notorious |
| Newport Beach and Orange County | 45 miles | 1h to 1h 45 | The 405 south, a daily corporate movement |
| Temecula wine country | 85 miles | 1h 30 to 2h 30 | Usually booked hourly as a day rather than a transfer |
| Terminal | Location | Typical transfer |
|---|---|---|
| Port of Los Angeles | World Cruise Center, San Pedro | 35 to 60 min from LAX |
| Port of Long Beach | Long Beach Cruise Terminal | 30 to 55 min from LAX |
Embarkation day luggage runs heavier than air travel for the same trip length, because there is no airline weight limit pushing back. Size one class above your instinct and read the guidance on Los Angeles cruise transfers before you book.
The chauffeur meeting you is dispatched by an operator based here, not routed in from another market.
The capacity below is the honest number, not the manufacturer maximum. Carrying full-size cases, take the next class up.

No meter, no surge multiplier, and no line item that appears after the ride is over.
The Metro C and K lines now connect towards LAX and the network across the basin is better than its reputation, though the LAX connection still involves a shuttle until the people mover is fully in service. For a single traveller heading to Downtown with a carry-on and time to spare, it is a reasonable option and considerably cheaper.
A chauffeur earns its price here more than in almost any American city, and specifically at LAX. Avoiding LAX-it with luggage after a long-haul flight is the whole product. So is a day of meetings across Century City, Culver City and Burbank where parking and the 405 are the real costs, a group that would otherwise split into three cars, an early call time, and any Orange County run where the distance is genuine.
The full cost and time comparison against the meter is on Los Angeles taxi versus chauffeur.
The terminal assignment, the pickup zone that moved last month, the parking permit for that garage. None of it reaches you.

It depends far more on your destination than on distance. Los Angeles International (LAX), Hollywood Burbank (BUR), John Wayne Orange County (SNA) are the main options, and the drive times differ enough that the cheapest ticket is often not the cheapest arrival. The table above sets out distance and typical drive time for each, and every airport has its own page with terminal detail and pickup arrangements.
In the designated pre-arranged pickup area for your terminal, with the chauffeur calling as you reach the doors. Pickup zones at LAX change during construction and reorganisation, so the operator confirms the current meeting point on the morning of your flight rather than relying on anything printed in advance. Being met inside arrivals on your name is a paid add-on.
Between 35 to 55 min off-peak and 60 to 110 min in weekday peak traffic, door to door from the arrivals kerb. Published figures shorter than that usually describe a quiet Sunday morning. Each route from the airport has its own page with the roads used and the times worth avoiding.
Yes. Bridge, tunnel and expressway tolls, express lane charges, airport access fees and taxes are all inside the price quoted at the time of booking. Ride-hailing apps and taxis add these to your fare per trip, which is why two apparently similar quotes can settle very differently at the end of the ride.
Yes. Every vehicle is run by a for-hire operator licensed in its own jurisdiction, with licensing and insurance verified before they can take a booking rather than checked per ride.
Sixty minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time, tracked against the aircraft rather than the schedule, which covers immigration, baggage and customs. Every other pickup includes 15 minutes. Beyond the free window, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the vehicle class rate and you are told before it starts.
At least 3 hours before pickup so the operator can assign and brief a chauffeur, though RYDES takes reservations up to a year out. For group vehicles and for the busy weeks noted above, book as early as you can, because availability runs out long before price becomes the problem.
Add your flight number and we track the aircraft. A delay moves your pickup automatically and costs nothing, with free waiting starting at the actual landing time. A diversion is handled by dispatch, who will re-brief a chauffeur to the new field where the operator has coverage. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
Yes, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments. The chauffeur waits between stops and nothing runs while you are inside a meeting. Once a day involves three or more stops, hourly hire is usually cheaper than separate transfers once you count the waiting you would have done anyway.
No. LAX-it is the holding lot for taxis and app services, reached by shuttle bus or a long walk, and avoiding it is most of the reason people book a chauffeur at this airport. Pre-arranged vehicles work from the terminal's designated pre-arranged pickup area, and on a meet and greet booking the chauffeur meets you inside arrivals with your name. Either way you leave from your terminal rather than from a lot.
It depends entirely on where you are going, and the answer is often not LAX. Burbank is closer to Hollywood, the studios and the Valley and is far quicker to get out of. John Wayne is the right field for Newport Beach, Irvine and Orange County, which are an hour or more from LAX. Long Beach serves the South Bay well. LAX makes sense for international arrivals, long-haul and the Westside, and less sense than people assume for everywhere else.
Between thirty five and fifty five minutes off-peak and up to an hour and three quarters in traffic, for a distance of eleven to sixteen miles. The 405 corridor between the airport and the Westside is the most congested freeway in the country and there is no faster alternative. Published times around twenty five minutes describe a Sunday morning. Plan on the upper figure for any weekday afternoon arrival.
