Sharjah to Dubai

What is a Sharjah chauffeur service?

A Sharjah chauffeur service is private transport booked in advance at a fixed dirham price, run by an operator holding the required Sharjah permits from the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA). The SRTA regulates the emirate's taxis and requires every commercial transport company carrying passengers here to hold its permit, including companies registered in another emirate. A booking can be a SHJ airport transfer, an hourly car service in Sharjah, a black car for a client, a limousine for an occasion or a door-to-door Sharjah car service to any address in the Emirates.

Most Sharjah trips are not really Sharjah trips. A large share of bookings either start at the airport and end in Dubai or carry Sharjah residents to work on the other side of the border, which means Al Ittihad Road or the E311 at rush hour. A metered taxi charges for every slow kilometre and adds a surcharge for leaving the emirate. A reserved car, booked as a taxi alternative, does not: the price set at booking already contains 5 percent VAT, any Dubai Salik tolls on the route and the airport's charges, and it stays the same however long the queue at the border turns out to be.

The same reservation reaches the rest of the country. SHJ to Al Majaz and the Corniche, Sharjah to Ajman next door, Sharjah to Dubai by the hour or by the trip, Khor Fakkan across the Hajar mountains and Sharjah to Abu Dhabi for a full-day meeting. Inter-emirate journeys are carried out by operators authorised for that route. Companies moving staff between the two cities every week can put it all on one account through corporate travel.

Airports for a Sharjah trip.

Sharjah International is a few minutes from the university district and closer to most of the emirate than any other runway. Dubai International sits just over the border and catches the long-haul traffic Sharjah does not.

Times are door to door for a direct private vehicle. Commuter peak means roughly 06:30 to 09:30 towards Dubai and 16:30 to 20:00 back towards Sharjah on a weekday, and the corridors between the two cities are among the most congested roads in the country at those hours, so the peak column is deliberately wide. As of October 2026 the region's airports are open, but some international airlines have suspended or reduced Gulf flights because of the regional conflict; RYDES tracks your flight and re-times the pickup if it changes.

Where your chauffeur meets you.

Sharjah International is compact and easy to read once you are through passport control. Most of the planning goes into what happens after the car leaves the airport road.

Sharjah International.

Sharjah International is Air Arabia's hub and had its busiest year on record in 2025, with 19.48 million passengers, up 13.9 percent, on 116,657 flights to more than 100 destinations. The network keeps reaching further into Europe; Munich, Prague, Vienna and Warsaw Modlin were among the routes added in 2025. That growth shows at the arrivals kerb in the evening bank, when several flights land within a short window.

Your chauffeur names the exact meeting point in the message sent before you land, so there is no guessing which door to use. If the operator has to park while waiting, short-term parking at the airport starts at AED 16 for the first hour, and there is a premium arrival parking area close to the arrivals hall. That cost is handled on the operator side for a standard pickup. Timing for the drive into the city is on SHJ to Al Majaz and SHJ to the Heart of Sharjah.

  • Kerbside pickup, the free defaultThe chauffeur meets you at the point named in the pre-arrival message, with the car close by.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onChauffeur inside the arrivals hall with your name, useful with children, heavy bags or a first visit.
  • Flight tracked, not the timetableThe 60 free minutes begin when the aircraft actually lands, early or late.

Arriving at DXB for Sharjah.

Plenty of people heading to Sharjah land at Dubai International instead, because their airline does not fly into SHJ. The DXB to Sharjah run is short on a map, about 28 km between the two airports, but it crosses the busiest border corridor in the country. Off-peak it is half an hour or a little more; a Sunday morning or a weekday evening can push it well past an hour.

The pickup works the same way as at SHJ: the chauffeur sends the meeting point before you land and waits 60 minutes free from touchdown. For anything about the Dubai airports themselves, including the terminal you are likely to use, the Dubai chauffeur page has the detail.

Expo Centre Sharjah.

Expo Centre Sharjah on Al Khan lagoon hosts the city's biggest crowds. The 45th Sharjah International Book Fair runs there from 4 to 15 November 2026, with 2,673 publishers and exhibitors from 124 countries, and the evening sessions empty the halls at the same moment the commuter traffic back from Dubai peaks.

For an exhibitor team or a delegation, an hourly booking with the car held near the halls is usually easier than separate drop-offs, because the chauffeur can collect at an agreed gate rather than queuing with everyone else. Book well ahead for fair days; the closer the date, the fewer larger vehicles remain.

The airport facts above were checked against public sources in October 2026. Airlines move flights between airports and schedules shift during the current disruption, so confirm your arrival airport from your booking on the day, and follow the meeting point in your chauffeur's message.

Meters, surcharges and the border.

Inside Sharjah the cost of a ride is mostly the meter and two fixed surcharges. Cross into Dubai and Salik toll gates appear as well. Here is how each reaches you depending on how you travel.

Sharjah's regulated taxis start at AED 3 by day and AED 4 at night, from 22:00 to 06:00, and then run at about AED 1.61 a kilometre. Any trip starting at Sharjah International carries a fixed AED 20 surcharge, and a trip ending outside the emirate adds roughly AED 20 more. On our arithmetic, a free-flowing taxi from SHJ to Al Majaz comes to a little over AED 50, and the same car to Downtown Dubai lands nearer AED 100 before any time spent stationary in traffic. Those are fair fares for one person with a carry-on; they stop looking cheap when the meter is crawling on Al Ittihad Road.

A RYDES price for the same trip already contains 5 percent VAT, the airport's charges and any Dubai Salik tolls the route passes. Since 1 June 2026, VAT also applies to Salik tolls and to Parkin parking in Dubai; on a RYDES booking the toll is inside the quote either way. The one thing outside it is paid parking, if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges for it.

How charges reach the passenger on a Sharjah airport trip, by way of travelling. Taxi tariffs are set by the SRTA; bus fares are published by the operators.

The route decision belongs to the chauffeur. Heading to Downtown Dubai at 08:00, they will weigh Al Ittihad Road against the E311 and the interior roads; heading to Al Hamriyah, the question does not arise. None of that changes the number you were quoted. The full comparison against a metered fare is on Sharjah taxi versus chauffeur.

Honest drive times.

Sharjah's own roads are manageable most of the day. The roads into Dubai are a different matter, and anything crossing the border at commuter hours needs a wide margin.

SHJ to Khor Fakkan1 h 10 to 1 h 251 h 20 to 1 h 40Across the Hajar mountains to the east coast, away from the city traffic

The Sharjah–Dubai corridors are the reason this table has such a wide peak column. Morning traffic towards Dubai and evening traffic back can stretch a 35-minute drive past an hour and a half, and a minor accident does the rest. For a flight from DXB or a meeting in Dubai you cannot be late for, leave double the off-peak time. During Ramadan, traffic peaks shift towards the hours before iftar.

Out of Sharjah.

Longer runs are priced as one fixed fare for the whole journey, not by the hour, so an hour lost at the Dubai border is the operator's problem rather than yours.

Trips between emirates are carried out by operators authorised for that route; out-of-emirate companies working in Sharjah also need SRTA driver permits, at AED 25 a day or AED 500 a year, which is part of why not every car on the road can take every booking. Etihad Rail's Abu Dhabi–Dubai service has run since 30 September 2026, but its Dubai station at Al Yalayis is a long way from Sharjah and the Sharjah station is not planned until 30 March 2027. Until then, Sharjah to Abu Dhabi by car is door to door. For the far north, see the Ras Al Khaimah page.

When you should not book us.

Sharjah has cheap taxis and a working bus network, and for a fair number of trips they are the better choice.

Landing at SHJ alone with a backpack and staying in University City or near the airport, a taxi will get you there for around AED 35 with the airport surcharge, and a chauffeur makes no sense. Heading into the city on a budget, bus route 99 runs from the airport to Al Jubail station every 17 to 25 minutes for AED 9 in cash or AED 7 on a Sayer card. From Al Jubail, RTA intercity buses such as the E303 to Union, the E306 to Al Ghubaiba and the E307 to Deira City Centre leave every 20 to 30 minutes and take from 45 minutes to over an hour, paid by Nol card only.

Rail is not an answer yet. Etihad Rail's Sharjah station is planned for 30 March 2027, and the Abu Dhabi–Dubai service that opened on 30 September 2026, from AED 39, starts and ends well away from Sharjah. A chauffeur earns its fare in other situations: a family with checked bags, a commute you want to work through, an arrival after midnight, a run to Khor Fakkan or Mleiha that no bus does well, or any Dubai trip at rush hour where the meter would keep running. The full comparison is on Sharjah taxi versus chauffeur.

Who licenses chauffeur cars in Sharjah?

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA). It runs the emirate's taxis and requires commercial passenger transport companies to hold an SRTA permit, including companies based in other emirates, whose drivers also need SRTA permits at AED 25 a day or AED 500 a year. RYDES works only with operators holding the required Sharjah permits. See Sharjah car service.

Where will my chauffeur meet me at Sharjah International?

At the meeting point named in the message your chauffeur sends before you land. Kerbside pickup is the free default; meet and greet inside the arrivals hall, with your name on a sign, is a paid add-on. Arrival detail is on the SHJ airport transfer page.

How long does SHJ to Downtown Dubai take?

About 35 to 50 minutes off-peak, and anywhere from 1 hour to 1 hour 45 at commuter peak, because Al Ittihad Road and the E311 between Sharjah and Dubai are heavily congested at those hours. The fare does not change with the traffic. See SHJ to Downtown Dubai.

How long does SHJ to Al Majaz take?

Usually 20 to 30 minutes off-peak and 35 to 50 minutes in the evening rush, for about 19 km. The Heart of Sharjah and Al Noor Island are a few minutes closer. See SHJ to Al Majaz and SHJ to the Heart of Sharjah.

Can I book a daily commute from Sharjah to Dubai?

Yes. Residents book a fixed-fare car each way or an hourly booking for days with several stops, and teams can move the whole arrangement onto a company account. Booking ahead locks the price whatever the traffic. See Sharjah to Dubai and corporate travel in Sharjah.

Are VAT, tolls and airport fees included?

Yes. The 5 percent VAT, any Dubai Salik tolls on the route and the airport's charges are inside the dirham price shown at booking. Since 1 June 2026 VAT also applies to Salik tolls and Parkin parking in Dubai, and the toll is inside the quote either way. Paid parking at a stop where you ask the car to wait is the only extra. See Sharjah taxi versus chauffeur.

How much does a Sharjah taxi from the airport cost?

Sharjah taxis start at AED 3 by day and AED 4 between 22:00 and 06:00, then charge about AED 1.61 a kilometre. Every trip from SHJ adds a fixed AED 20 surcharge, and a trip ending outside Sharjah adds about AED 20 more. Time stuck in traffic adds to the meter as well.

Is there a bus from Sharjah airport?

Yes. Route 99 runs between Sharjah International and Al Jubail station every 17 to 25 minutes, for AED 9 in cash or AED 7 on a Sayer card. From Al Jubail, RTA intercity buses including the E303, E306 and E307 run to Dubai every 20 to 30 minutes, taking 45 minutes to over an hour, and accept the Nol card only.

Is there a train from Sharjah to Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

Not yet. Etihad Rail's Sharjah station is planned for 30 March 2027. The passenger service between Abu Dhabi and Dubai began on 30 September 2026, running from Al Yalayis to Mohamed Bin Zayed City in about an hour, but neither station is near Sharjah. Until then, Sharjah to Abu Dhabi by car is the direct option.

How much free waiting time do I get?

Sixty minutes from the actual landing time at the airport, tracked against the aircraft rather than the timetable. Every other pickup includes 15 minutes. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the vehicle class rate, and you are told before it starts.

Can you take me to Khor Fakkan?

Yes. Khor Fakkan, Sharjah's town on the Gulf of Oman, is about 99 km from the airport, typically 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 40 through the Hajar mountains. It is priced as one fixed fare, or by the hour for a day on the east coast. See Khor Fakkan transfers and SHJ to Khor Fakkan.

Do you go to Mleiha and the desert?

Yes. The Mleiha Archaeological Centre is about 55 km inland from the airport, usually 45 to 70 minutes. Many visitors book by the hour so the car waits during the site visit. See Mleiha transfers.

Can I bring alcohol or dress as I like in the car?

Alcohol possession and consumption are prohibited in Sharjah, so please do not bring any into the vehicle. Sharjah's decency law, which asks for modest dress in public, applies to everyone, residents and visitors alike.

When is the Sharjah International Book Fair?

The 45th edition runs from 4 to 15 November 2026 at Expo Centre Sharjah, with 2,673 publishers and exhibitors from 124 countries. Evening closing times coincide with commuter traffic, so book early. See Expo Centre Sharjah transfers.

What other events should I plan around?

The Sharjah Biennial 17 runs from 21 January to 13 June 2027 across four locations. The Sharjah Light Festival is usually held in February; in 2026 it ran from 3 to 15 February, and the 2027 dates are not yet confirmed. Ramadan 2027 is expected from about 8 February to 8 or 9 March, with Eid al-Fitr around 9 to 12 March. An hourly chauffeur suits a day of venues.

How far in advance should I book in Sharjah?

At least 3 hours before pickup, so the operator can assign and brief a chauffeur. Reservations open up to a year ahead. For Book Fair days and the Ramadan and Eid weeks, book as early as possible. Regular travellers should look at corporate accounts.

What if my flight is delayed, cancelled or moved?

Add your flight number and we track it. As of October 2026 the region's airports are open, but some international airlines have suspended or reduced Gulf flights because of the regional conflict. If your flight is re-timed, the pickup moves with it at no cost; if you are rebooked into DXB instead, dispatch re-briefs the chauffeur. See DXB to Sharjah.
