What is a Brussels chauffeur service?

A Brussels chauffeur service is pre-booked private transport at a fixed euro price, carried out by an operator licensed for the Brussels-Capital Region under the Ordinance of 9 June 2022 on taxi services. In Brussels law a booked chauffeur car is a street taxi, a taxi de rue: it carries no taxi livery, uses no ranks or taxi lanes, and can only be reserved in advance through an approved booking intermediary. Car, chauffeur and price are agreed before the day, whether the trip is a Brussels Airport transfer, an hourly car service around the institutions or a black car to a Rue de la Loi meeting.

The value shows on the difficult days. On a European Council day the Schuman roundabout, Rue de la Loi and Boulevard Charlemagne sit inside a security perimeter, tunnels can close and passes are checked. On a strike day the trains and STIB stop and every app in the city is busy at once. A reserved Brussels car service keeps the number you agreed, and that number already contains 6 percent VAT and any kerb or short-stay parking charge the airport takes for collecting you. The comparison with a metered ride is on the Brussels taxi alternative.

One reservation covers the whole capital area. Charleroi airport transfers for the low-cost carriers to the south, Brussels Airport to NATO in a few minutes, the Brussels Expo halls at Heysel for the Motor Show, Eurostar connections at Brussels-Midi, and runs out to Waterloo, Antwerp and Bruges. For organisations moving delegations every week, corporate travel in Brussels adds central invoicing and traveller reporting on the same cars.

Drive times are door to door from the pickup point and assume a direct private car rather than a shuttle. Peak means roughly 07:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00 on a weekday, when the R0 ring, the E40 and the E19 can double an urban leg. European Council days, national strike days and the Motor Show sit outside both columns. Brussels Airport handled 24.4 million passengers in 2025 and Charleroi 11.2 million, so the second airport is no minor field; plan its longer drive in from the start.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

Brussels Airport has one terminal, which keeps things simple once you are through the doors. The roads around it are another matter, and Charleroi and Midi each work their own way.

Brussels Airport.

Brussels Airport is a single terminal with two piers. Pier A handles Schengen flights and Pier B handles non-Schengen flights, which is where passport control adds time after a long-haul arrival. Both lead to the arrivals level on level 2, and the railway station sits underneath on level -1. The airport is in Zaventem, in Flanders, just outside the Brussels-Capital Region.

The drop-off zone allows ten minutes free once an hour and then charges €12 plus €3 for every extra minute, and parking is not allowed there. The P1 to P3 car parks start from €6 an hour. Whichever of these your chauffeur uses to collect you, the charge is inside the RYDES price. Since April 2026 Zaventem has run five municipal taxi ranks at the airport, but booked chauffeur trips are still allowed. Road works on the R0 ring and the A201 interchange at Machelen and Zaventem run until 2031, so give the first kilometres some slack. Timing for the drive is on Brussels Airport to the Grand-Place.

  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onChauffeur waiting in the Arrivals Hall with your name, useful after a Pier B arrival with passport control and checked bags.
  • Pier A or Pier BSchengen flights arrive through Pier A, others through Pier B. Both bring you out on level 2.

Brussels South Charleroi.

Charleroi handled 11.2 million passengers in 2025 and is the base for much of Belgium's low-cost flying. It sits about 57 km south of the Grand-Place, so a Charleroi arrival for a Brussels meeting is closer to an hour on the road than the twenty minutes from Zaventem, and more at rush hour on the approach to the city.

The exact pickup spot is confirmed in the message your chauffeur sends before you land, along with the car and the number plate. Any airport parking charge for that pickup is in the fare. The drive itself is on Charleroi to Brussels, and the south of the region and Waterloo are often the easier destinations from here.

Brussels-Midi and the Eurostar.

Eurostar high-speed trains, Paris among them, leave from Brussels-Midi. The former Thalys services now run under the Eurostar name, and Paris is from 1 hour 22 minutes away. A chauffeur at Midi is usually about a heavy case, a delegation of five, or an onward journey to somewhere the trains do not reach directly.

Midi is a large station with several entrances and busy surrounding streets, so your chauffeur names the exact entrance and the waiting spot in the message sent before your train arrives. Standard pickup there is free; being met on the platform side with your name is the paid add-on.

The airport facts above were checked against public sources in October 2026. Pier assignments and car park layouts change, so treat your chauffeur's pre-arrival message as the authority on where to walk on the day.

VAT, the airport kerb and the low-emission zone.

Brussels has no congestion charge and Belgian motorways carry no tolls for cars on the routes a Brussels chauffeur normally drives. What shapes a fare here is VAT, the airport's drop-off and parking charges, and a region-wide low-emission zone.

Passenger transport in Belgium carries 6 percent VAT, and it is inside every RYDES price. The airport's drop-off zone and car parks charge by the minute or the hour, and when your chauffeur pays them to collect you, that cost is already counted. Any toll on a longer route, such as the Liefkenshoek tunnel at Antwerp if the journey uses it, is counted too. Belgium plans a digital road vignette for cars from 1 May 2027; it is a plan rather than law, and the page will be updated if it comes in.

The Brussels low-emission zone covers the whole region, every day, around the clock. Since 1 January 2026 diesel cars need Euro 6 and petrol cars Euro 3, and every foreign-registered vehicle must be registered first, free and valid for five years, apart from compliant Dutch cars. A day pass costs €35 and the fine is €350. That matters to anyone driving in from France or Germany; it does not matter on a RYDES booking, because the operator's car meets the rules before it is assigned. The region's default speed limit has been 30 km/h since 2021, and the first-year evaluation found journeys of 5 to 10 km only 10 to 15 seconds slower.

For reference, Brussels publishes a booked-trip tariff of €1.50 to start and €1.50 per kilometre with an €8 minimum, and allows dynamic pricing up to twice that. A RYDES fare is a fixed total agreed before you travel rather than a running calculation. The routing call matters as much as the tariff: a chauffeur heading to Schuman from the airport normally takes the E40 and the Leopold II tunnel or the Rue de la Loi approach, and on a summit day picks a way round the perimeter. That decision does not change what you were quoted. The full comparison is on Brussels taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Brussels Airport is close to the city, which makes the numbers look small. The R0, the E40 and the E19 decide the real answer, and at peak they can double it.

Brussels Airport to Bruges1 h 15 to 1 h 301 h 45 to 2 h 15The E40 west past Ghent

The calendar moves these numbers more than the weather. A European Council day closes the streets around Schuman, a national strike puts every commuter in a car, and Brussels sees demonstrations most weeks. For a Eurostar or a flight you cannot miss on one of those days, add half the off-peak time again and let dispatch know the constraint when you book.

Leaving town.

Longer runs are quoted as one fixed fare for the whole distance rather than by the hour, so a stationary E19 is the operator's problem and not yours.

Journeys across a border into the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France or Germany are confirmed by dispatch at booking rather than sold automatically, because the operator has to be able to carry passengers on both sides. Inside Belgium, the fixed price is set to the address you give, and a long-distance fare does not change if the motorway is slow.

Brussels taxi rules are moving towards zero-emission cars, with every vehicle newly registered as a Brussels taxi required to be zero-emission from 1 January 2027, so the car that arrives may well be one; the class you book still sets the size and standard. Full capacity and luggage detail is on the vehicle classes page. For ceremonies and formal evenings, see limo service in Brussels.

When you should not book us.

The train from Brussels Airport is quick, frequent and runs straight into the city, and for plenty of trips it is the better choice.

Travelling alone with a cabin bag to a hotel near one of the main stations, take the train from level -1. It reaches Brussels-North in about 11 minutes, Central in about 18 and Midi in about 23, with six direct trains an hour to the Brussels stations and two an hour to the European Quarter. The Brussels Airport Supplement of €6.90 is usually included in the ticket. The same station has direct trains to Leuven in 13 minutes, Antwerp in 30, Ghent in 55 and Bruges in 1 hour 25. For Paris, the Eurostar from Brussels-Midi takes from 1 hour 22 minutes and no car comes close.

A chauffeur is worth the money in other situations: bags you cannot lift up station stairs, three or more people, small children, a late arrival, a door the train does not reach such as Uccle, Waterloo or NATO, a day of several meetings, or a strike day when the trains and STIB are stopped, as they were on 12 October 2026. The full cost and time comparison is on Brussels taxi versus chauffeur.

Should I fly into Brussels Airport or Charleroi?

It depends on the airline and where you are going. Brussels Airport at Zaventem is about 15 km from the Grand-Place and 5 km from NATO, and suits the European Quarter, Evere and the north and east of the city. Charleroi, about 57 km south, is mostly low-cost flights and suits Waterloo and the south. Compare Brussels Airport to the Grand-Place with Charleroi to Brussels.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Brussels Airport?

Arrivals are on level 2 of the single terminal. The free standard pickup is from the drop-off zone or short-stay car park your chauffeur names in the message sent before you land; any charge for it is in the price. Meet and greet inside the Arrivals Hall is a paid add-on. Detail is on the Brussels Airport transfer page.

Is my flight at Pier A or Pier B?

Schengen flights use Pier A and non-Schengen flights use Pier B, which means passport control on arrival. Both piers lead to the same arrivals level, so your pickup arrangements do not change. The free waiting hour starts at the actual landing time either way.

Are VAT and airport charges included in Brussels?

Yes. The 6 percent VAT on passenger transport, any toll on the route and the drop-off or short-stay parking charge for your airport pickup are all inside the euro price quoted at booking. Paid parking at a stop where you ask the car to wait is the only thing outside it. See Brussels taxi versus chauffeur.

Who licenses chauffeur cars in Brussels?

The Brussels-Capital Region. Its Ordinance of 9 June 2022, in force since 21 October 2022, puts booked chauffeur cars in the taxi sector as street taxis: booked only through an approved booking intermediary, without taxi livery, ranks or taxi lanes. Drivers hold a certificat de capacité. Brussels pickups are carried out by an operator licensed for Brussels; airport pickups by an operator licensed in any Belgian region, as Flemish rules allow for booked rides.

Can a taxi licensed in Flanders or Wallonia work in Brussels?

That question is in flux. On 19 December 2024 the Constitutional Court, in ruling 154/2024, struck down the Brussels rule on trips by taxis licensed in the other two regions, but kept it in effect until the regions sign a cooperation agreement and no later than 30 June 2027. No agreement had been confirmed as of October 2026. RYDES assigns Brussels pickups to operators licensed for Brussels in the meantime.

What happens on a European Council day?

The area around Schuman, Rue de la Loi, Boulevard Charlemagne and Rue Froissart sits inside a security perimeter, passes are needed and some tunnels close. The next summits are 15–16 October and 17–18 December 2026. Your chauffeur plans the nearest reachable drop-off; tell us your building and any pass you hold when you book. See the European Quarter.

How long does Brussels Airport to the European Quarter take?

Usually 20 to 30 minutes off-peak and 40 to 60 minutes at weekday peak, longer on a summit day. The Grand-Place is 25 to 35 minutes off-peak. NATO headquarters at Evere is about 5 km from the airport, often under 15 minutes. See Brussels Airport to the European Quarter and Brussels Airport to NATO.

Would the train from Brussels Airport be better?

Sometimes, and we would rather say so. Alone with a cabin bag to a hotel near a main station, the train from level -1 reaches Brussels-North in about 11 minutes, Central in 18 and Midi in 23, six times an hour, and the €6.90 airport supplement is usually included in the ticket. A chauffeur makes sense with luggage, a group, children, a late arrival, a destination off the line, or a strike day.

What if there is a strike at Brussels Airport?

Strikes are a real planning factor. Seven national strike actions in 2025 cancelled 2,400 flights, all departures were cancelled on 12 March 2026, about half on 12 May, and ground handling struck on 9 October 2026. If your flight is cancelled, the booking can be changed or cancelled free up to 24 hours before pickup, and dispatch can move you to Charleroi or a train station where that helps.

Do I need to worry about the Brussels low-emission zone?

Not on a RYDES booking. The zone covers the whole region around the clock, and since 1 January 2026 requires Euro 6 for diesel and Euro 3 for petrol, with foreign-registered cars registered in advance. The day pass is €35 and the fine €350, but the operator's car meets the rules before it is assigned to you.

How much free waiting do I get at Brussels Airport?

Sixty minutes from the actual landing time, tracked against the aircraft rather than the timetable, which covers Pier B passport control and baggage. Every other pickup includes 15 minutes. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before it starts.

Can you get me to the Motor Show at Brussels Expo?

Yes. The Brussels Motor Show runs 8 to 17 January 2027 at Brussels Expo next to the Atomium in Heysel, usually 18 to 25 minutes from Brussels Airport off-peak and much slower on show days. Exhibitor teams often book by the hour. See Brussels Expo transfers.

Can you drive me from Brussels to Paris or Amsterdam?

Yes, confirmed by dispatch at booking because the trip crosses a border. Paris is about 307 km from the Grand-Place, usually 3 hours 30 to 4 hours off-peak, and Amsterdam about 213 km, 2 hours 45 or more. The Eurostar to Paris is faster from 1 hour 22; a car wins with luggage, a group or stops on the way. See Brussels to Paris and Amsterdam to Brussels.

Can I book a car by the hour in Brussels?

Yes, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments. The chauffeur waits between meetings and nothing runs on a meter while you are inside. It suits a day between the institutions, permanent representations and NATO. Paid parking at a stop is the only cost outside the quote. See hourly chauffeur hire.

How far ahead should I book in Brussels?

At least 3 hours before pickup so the operator can assign and brief a chauffeur, and reservations open up to a year ahead. Book early for European Council weeks, the Brussels Airport Marathon on 25 October 2026, the Winter Wonders Christmas market from 27 November, the Motor Show in January, Ommegang in early July and Tomorrowland weekends in Boom. Teams that book often should look at corporate accounts.

Can I ask for a chauffeur who speaks a particular language?

You can request one in the booking notes and the operator will try to match it. Brussels drivers sit a certificat de capacité exam that includes Dutch, French and English, but we do not promise any particular language on a given booking. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
