Detroit corporate travelA Detroit chauffeur service is pre-arranged ground transport booked ahead at a fixed price, carried out by a licensed for-hire operator. It is not hailed on the street and not dispatched on demand. The vehicle, the chauffeur and the price are all settled before the day of travel, whether the booking is a DTW airport transfer, an hourly car service or a black car to a morning meeting.
In practice that distinction decides what happens when things go wrong. A metered taxi and a surge-priced app both re-price themselves when traffic turns or the weather does. A reserved Detroit car service booking does not. The number you agreed is the number you pay, and it already contains the tolls, the airport access fees and the taxes.
The same reservation covers the rest of the region: Oakland County International transfers, Willow Run transfers, Windsor International transfers, and a car service to Ann Arbor when the trip runs further out. For companies moving people through the city regularly, corporate travel in Detroit adds central billing and duty-of-care reporting on top of the same fleet.
Which one is right depends far more on where you are going than on which is nearest. Each has its own page with terminal detail and pickup arrangements.
| Airport | Distance | Typical drive, off-peak | Typical drive, peak | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Detroit Metropolitan Wayne CountyDTW | 20 miles | 30 to 40 min | 45 to 75 min | Everything, and a major Delta hub with heavy international traffic |
| Oakland County InternationalPTK | 35 miles | 40 to 55 min | 1h to 1h 30 | Private aviation into Birmingham, Bloomfield and the auto corridor |
| Willow RunYIP | 30 miles | 35 to 50 min | 50 to 85 min | Cargo and charter west of the city |
| Windsor InternationalYQG | 25 miles | 40 to 70 min | 1h to 2h | Ontario arrivals, subject to border wait times |
| Ann Arbor MunicipalARB | 45 miles | 50 to 65 min | 1h 10 to 1h 45 | General aviation for the university and the research corridor |
Drive times are door to door from the arrivals kerb, not gate to gate, and they assume a direct private vehicle rather than a shared shuttle. Peak means roughly 07:00 to 10:00 and 15:30 to 19:30 on a weekday.
Detroit is the only market on this list where a routine cross-town trip can involve customs, and the only one where getting the terminal wrong costs you a shuttle ride.
Detroit Metropolitan has two terminals that are genuinely separate buildings: the McNamara Terminal, which handles Delta and most international arrivals, and the Evans Terminal, used by the other carriers. They are not connected on the landside and moving between them means a shuttle. Almost every Detroit pickup problem starts with a passenger who assumed one terminal. Give the operator a flight number and it is worked out before you land.
The Windsor crossing is the thing that makes this market unusual. Detroit and Windsor, Ontario are connected by the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, the Ambassador Bridge and the Gordie Howe International Bridge, and crossing means clearing customs in both directions. Every passenger needs a passport or an equivalent travel document, including children. Wait times vary from minutes to well over an hour depending on the crossing and the hour, and no operator can shorten them. If your booking crosses the border, tell us at the time of booking rather than in the vehicle, because not every chauffeur and not every vehicle is cleared to make the crossing.
The other shaping force here is the automotive industry. Demand clusters hard around the supplier corridor from Dearborn through Auburn Hills, around the Detroit Auto Show, and around plant and headquarters visits that run to a schedule set months ahead. Corporate accounts are a larger share of what we do in this market than in most, and group vehicles for plant tours book out early.
Details above were checked against public sources at the time of writing. Rates, terminal assignments and construction timelines in this section change faster than any website updates, so treat your chauffeur's message on the day as the authority.
Published transfer times are usually the best case. These are ranges, and the upper end happens often enough to plan around.
| Route | Off-peak | Weekday peak | What moves it |
|---|---|---|---|
| DTW to Downtown Detroit | 30 to 40 min | 45 to 75 min | I-94 east, straightforward by Midwest standards |
| DTW to Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills | 40 to 55 min | 60 to 95 min | I-275 and M-10, the executive corridor |
| DTW to Ann Arbor | 25 to 35 min | 40 to 65 min | I-94 west, closer than most visitors realise |
| DTW to Troy and Auburn Hills | 45 to 60 min | 70 to 105 min | The full run north through the automotive supplier belt |
| DTW to Dearborn | 20 to 30 min | 30 to 50 min | Short, and the Ford campus run |
| DTW to Windsor, Ontario | 40 to 70 min | 1h to 2h | The tunnel or a bridge, plus customs on both sides |
Each route above has its own page with pricing by vehicle class, the roads actually used and the times worth avoiding.
Intercity runs are priced as one fixed fare for the whole journey, not per hour, so the traffic is our problem rather than yours.
| Destination | Distance | Typical drive | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ann Arbor | 45 miles | 50 to 70 min | Game weekends run considerably longer |
| Lansing | 90 miles | 1h 25 to 1h 50 | I-96 west to the capital |
| Toledo | 60 miles | 1h to 1h 20 | I-75 south, and a state line |
| Grand Rapids | 155 miles | 2h 30 to 3h 15 | Across the state on I-96 |
| Cleveland | 170 miles | 2h 45 to 3h 30 | I-75 then the Ohio Turnpike |
| Traverse City | 255 miles | 4h to 5h | The summer run north, worst on a Friday |
The chauffeur meeting you is dispatched by an operator based here, not routed in from another market.

No meter, no surge multiplier, and no line item that appears after the ride is over.
There is no rail link from Detroit Metropolitan to the city, and the metro area is genuinely car-shaped, so the usual take-the-train argument does not apply here. For a single traveller heading downtown on a weekday morning a rideshare works perfectly well.
A chauffeur is worth it for the Oakland County corridor where the ride is long, for anything involving the McNamara Terminal after an international arrival, for a plant or headquarters visit where arriving late is a professional problem, for groups, and for the Windsor crossing where the paperwork and the vehicle clearance are the actual service being bought.
The full cost and time comparison against the meter is on Detroit taxi versus chauffeur.
The terminal assignment, the pickup zone that moved last month, the parking permit for that garage. None of it reaches you.

It depends far more on your destination than on distance. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County (DTW), Oakland County International (PTK) are the main options, and the drive times differ enough that the cheapest ticket is often not the cheapest arrival. The table above sets out distance and typical drive time for each, and every airport has its own page with terminal detail and pickup arrangements.
In the designated pre-arranged pickup area for your terminal, with the chauffeur calling as you reach the doors. Pickup zones at DTW change during construction and reorganisation, so the operator confirms the current meeting point on the morning of your flight rather than relying on anything printed in advance. Being met inside arrivals on your name is a paid add-on.
Between 30 to 40 min off-peak and 45 to 75 min in weekday peak traffic, door to door from the arrivals kerb. Published figures shorter than that usually describe a quiet Sunday morning. Each route from the airport has its own page with the roads used and the times worth avoiding.
Yes. Bridge, tunnel and expressway tolls, express lane charges, airport access fees and taxes are all inside the price quoted at the time of booking. Ride-hailing apps and taxis add these to your fare per trip, which is why two apparently similar quotes can settle very differently at the end of the ride.
Yes. Every vehicle is run by a for-hire operator licensed in its own jurisdiction, with licensing and insurance verified before they can take a booking rather than checked per ride.
Sixty minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time, tracked against the aircraft rather than the schedule, which covers immigration, baggage and customs. Every other pickup includes 15 minutes. Beyond the free window, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the vehicle class rate and you are told before it starts.
At least 3 hours before pickup so the operator can assign and brief a chauffeur, though RYDES takes reservations up to a year out. For group vehicles and for the busy weeks noted above, book as early as you can, because availability runs out long before price becomes the problem.
Add your flight number and we track the aircraft. A delay moves your pickup automatically and costs nothing, with free waiting starting at the actual landing time. A diversion is handled by dispatch, who will re-brief a chauffeur to the new field where the operator has coverage. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
Yes, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments. The chauffeur waits between stops and nothing runs while you are inside a meeting. Once a day involves three or more stops, hourly hire is usually cheaper than separate transfers once you count the waiting you would have done anyway.
Yes, with notice at the time of booking. Not every vehicle and not every chauffeur is cleared for the crossing, so it has to be arranged rather than requested on the day. Every passenger needs a valid passport or equivalent travel document, children included. Border wait times at the tunnel and the bridges vary from a few minutes to more than an hour and are outside anyone's control, so allow for them on a departure.
The McNamara Terminal if you are flying Delta or arriving on most international services, and the Evans Terminal otherwise. They are separate buildings with no landside connection, and moving between them means a shuttle ride you did not plan for. Provide your flight number when you book and the operator confirms the terminal and the pre-arranged pickup zone before you land.
Yes, and they are a large share of this market. Multi-vehicle movements through the Dearborn, Auburn Hills and Troy corridor, headquarters visits, supplier tours and Auto Show week are all handled on corporate accounts with central billing and cost centre reporting. Group vehicles for plant tours book out well ahead, so give us as much notice as you can.
