Built for an industrial city.

Gothenburg is a working port and a manufacturing town before it is a tourist one. The bookings follow that: factory gates, exhibition halls and ship sides as often as hotels.

What is a Gothenburg chauffeur service?

A Gothenburg chauffeur service is a car and driver reserved in advance at a fixed price, run by an operator holding a taxi traffic licence (taxitrafiktillstånd) from Transportstyrelsen, the Swedish Transport Agency. Sweden licenses every paid passenger car the same way, so the chauffeur holds a taxi driver ID (taxiförarlegitimation) and the trip is sold at a price agreed before departure. Whether it is a Landvetter airport transfer, an hourly car service between Avenyn and Hisingen or a black car for a client arriving at Svenska Mässan, the vehicle, the chauffeur and the total are settled when you book.

What that fixes is the variable part. The city charges a congestion tax at its control points on weekday daytimes, and Swedish law gives taxis no exemption from it. A meter passes it on to you as the car crosses; a pre-booked Gothenburg car service has already counted it, along with the 6 percent VAT (moms) on passenger transport. The fair-week rush, the Monday morning queue towards the river crossings and the first snow of December change how long the drive takes, not what it costs. For a side-by-side view, see the Gothenburg taxi alternative page.

One booking flow covers the rest of the region: plant and office visits at Volvo Torslanda, ship calls at Arendal, summer days out to Marstrand, and the long city-to-city routes to Oslo, Malmö and Copenhagen. Companies that send engineers, auditors or sales teams through the city every month can move the lot onto corporate travel in Gothenburg, with central billing and a single traveller list.

Flying into Gothenburg.

One airport carries almost all of the city's air traffic, and it sits inland, east of town, rather than by the sea. Copenhagen is the realistic long-haul alternative when the fare gap is wide enough.

Times are door to door from the pickup and assume a direct private car. Weekday peak here means roughly 07:00 to 09:00 and 15:30 to 18:00, which lines up with the hours the congestion tax is at its top rate. Exhibition opening mornings, Liseberg's busiest summer evenings and the first heavy snowfall sit outside both columns; plan those as their own category. The Copenhagen figure is to the Danish side and depends on the queue at the bridge toll station.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

Landvetter is one compact arrivals hall, Svenska Mässan has its own front door on the busiest square in town, and Arendal is a port on the far side of the river. Each one works a little differently.

Göteborg Landvetter.

Landvetter handled 5,439,872 passengers in 2025, up 1.9 percent on the year before. It is one airport doing almost all of the region's flying, so the morning and evening departure waves are busy. The airport has not published a single named meeting point for pre-booked cars that we could confirm, so your chauffeur names the exact spot in the message sent before you land, and that message is the one to follow.

If you are watching the coaches, the Flygbussarna airport coach leaves from stop 1. That is a useful landmark but not your pickup. From there it is a straight run west on the motorway, and the timing for the drive into town is on Landvetter to Gothenburg centre. Bound for the fairground instead, see Landvetter to Svenska Mässan.

Svenska Mässan and Korsvägen.

Svenska Mässan, the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre, sits on Korsvägen beside Liseberg and a short walk from Scandinavium and the top of Avenyn. The airport coach stops at Korsvägen on its way to the central station, which tells you how well connected the square is, and also how crowded it gets when a big fair opens and every taxi in the city is trying to reach the same doors.

A pre-booked car is set down and collected at the nearest point where stopping is allowed, which the chauffeur confirms on the day because fair organisers often change traffic around the halls. For exhibitors with crates and stand material, the Van and Group classes take the load in one trip rather than three taxis.

Arendal and Hisingen.

Cruise ships berth at Arendal, out on the western end of Hisingen, the large island across the Göta älv from the old town. The season is short: 28 calls between May and August 2026, down from 41 in 2025, so a call day is planned around one ship's schedule rather than a steady stream. Your chauffeur names the meeting point at the terminal in the pre-arrival message.

Hisingen is also where Volvo Torslanda is, and Frihamnen closer in by the river. Getting there from the airport means crossing the city and the river, which is why Landvetter to Torslanda takes noticeably longer than the distance suggests at rush hour.

Arendal · 900 × 600

Pickup details above were checked against public sources in October 2026. Airports and venues move kerbs and closures at short notice, especially during fairs and roadworks, so treat your chauffeur's message as the authority on where to stand.

Congestion tax, moms and the bridge.

Gothenburg has a congestion tax, and taxis pay it like everyone else. Add the national VAT on passenger transport and, on a Copenhagen run, the Øresund Bridge, and you have most of what can move a fare here.

The congestion tax is charged automatically at control points around the city between 06:00 and 18:29 on weekdays. In 2026 a passage costs SEK 9 to 22 depending on the time, with the top rate of SEK 22 at 07:00 to 07:59 and again at 15:30 to 16:59. Passages within 60 minutes are taxed once, and no vehicle pays more than SEK 60 in a day. Nothing is charged at weekends, on public holidays, on the day before a holiday, or at any time in July. Taxis are not exempt. On a RYDES booking that crosses a control point in those hours, the tax is inside your price.

Passenger transport in Sweden carries 6 percent VAT (moms), and that is inside the quote too. On a run to Copenhagen, the Øresund Bridge toll for a car up to 6 metres is DKK 470 one way at the toll station from 14 September 2026, or DKK 420 booked online, and it is also counted before you pay. RYDES quotes in euros; your card is charged in euros. The local amounts above are shown in Swedish and Danish kronor because that is how they are charged on the road. The only thing that stays outside the price is paid parking, if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges.

Routing decides how many control points a trip passes and how long it sits in traffic, but on a fixed quote that is the operator's calculation, not yours. A car heading from Landvetter to Torslanda at 16:00 and one making the same trip on a Saturday cost you the same. The longer comparison against a metered trip sits on Gothenburg taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Landvetter is close and the motorway into town is good. What slows Gothenburg is the river: almost everything bound for Hisingen funnels over a few crossings, and those are where the peak builds.

Landvetter to Marstrand1 h 10 to 1 h 251 h 25 to 1 h 50North over the river and out along the coast; summer weekends add traffic

Winter changes these numbers more than the rush hour does. Snow and ice on the motorway and the coast roads can add half again to a Landvetter run between December and March. For a departure you cannot miss in those months, leave the buffer. July is the easy month: no congestion tax and much of the city on holiday.

Leaving town.

Long runs are priced as one fixed fare for the whole journey, not by the hour, so a slow E6 on a Friday afternoon is the operator's concern. Distances below are measured from Landvetter; the fare is fixed to your real pickup address.

Runs into Norway and Denmark are confirmed by dispatch at booking rather than sold automatically, because the operator must be able to carry the trip on both sides of the border; for Copenhagen, a licensed operator for the Danish side is confirmed when you book. Carry a passport or national ID on any border run. Stockholm is far enough that we quote it to the exact address on request, and for a single traveller with light luggage the train between the two cities is worth comparing first.

Where we pick up.

The old canal town, the fair and stadium district, the creative west side, the whole of Hisingen, the airport hills and the coast. The chauffeur who meets you is dispatched by a licensed operator based in the region.

What the Gothenburg price contains.

A fixed figure agreed before the car moves, which is exactly what Swedish rules for pre-booked trips require.

Congestion tax and moms
Any congestion tax on the route and the 6 percent VAT on passenger transport are already in the number. You will not see either added afterwards.
Bridge toll on Copenhagen runs
The Øresund Bridge toll is part of the fare for a journey to Denmark, alongside any other road charges on the way.
Tip only if you want to
The operator agreed the chauffeur's pay for the job before accepting it. You can add a gratuity at payment or skip it, and nothing changes either way.
A tracked flight
Send the flight number and the pickup follows the aircraft, whether it lands early, late or after a diversion.
An hour at Landvetter
Sixty minutes free from the real landing time to clear reclaim. Everywhere else, including the fairground and the port, fifteen minutes are free.
Standard pickup
Collection at the meeting point your chauffeur names is free. A name sign inside arrivals is a paid add-on.
Cancel free until the day before
Change or cancel at no cost up to 24 hours before pickup. Later than that the booking is charged in full, as the car and driver are already set aside.
A licensed operator
Every Gothenburg booking is carried by an operator holding a Transportstyrelsen taxi traffic licence, with insurance checked before they can accept work.
Child seats and pets
Child seats are available as a paid add-on and the parent fits them. Pets are a paid add-on, and service animals always ride free.
Not in the price
Paid parking, if you ask the car to wait at a place that charges. Nothing else.

When you should not book us.

Landvetter has a good airport coach, and for some travellers it is plainly the better choice.

If you are on your own with a carry-on and heading to a hotel near the central station, take the coach. Vy Flygbussarna leaves from stop 1 outside arrivals and runs to Göteborg Central at the Nils Ericson Terminal by way of Korsvägen in about 20 minutes, which is as quick as a car in most traffic. FlixBus route 691 also runs to Nils Ericson. For a fair at Svenska Mässan, the Korsvägen stop leaves you at the door.

A chauffeur is worth it in other circumstances: two or more travelling together, children, heavy or awkward luggage, a late arrival, a destination off the coach line such as Torslanda, Arendal, Kungsbacka or Marstrand, a day of several stops, or a winter evening when you would rather not stand at a stop. That is most of why people book, but not every trip, and saying so here is better than finding out at the kerb. The full comparison is on Gothenburg taxi versus chauffeur.

How do I get from Landvetter to central Gothenburg?

By car it is about 26 km and usually 25 to 35 minutes, or 35 to 55 minutes in weekday peak traffic. A pre-booked chauffeur takes you to the door at a fixed price. Travelling alone with light luggage, the Flygbussarna coach to the Nils Ericson Terminal takes about 20 minutes. See Landvetter to Gothenburg centre.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Landvetter?

At the meeting point named in the message your chauffeur sends before you land. Landvetter has no single published spot for pre-booked cars that we could confirm, so the message is the authority. Kerbside pickup is free; meet and greet inside arrivals is a paid add-on. Details are on the Landvetter airport transfer page.

Do taxis and chauffeur cars pay the Gothenburg congestion tax?

Yes. Taxis are not exempt. In 2026 the tax is SEK 9 to 22 per passage between 06:00 and 18:29 on weekdays, with a daily cap of SEK 60, and passages within 60 minutes count once. There is none at weekends, on public holidays, the day before a holiday, or in July. On a RYDES booking it is inside your price.

Are taxes and tolls included in the price?

Yes. Congestion tax, the 6 percent VAT (moms) on passenger transport and, on a Copenhagen run, the Øresund Bridge toll are all inside the quote. RYDES quotes in euros and charges your card in euros. Paid parking, if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges, is the only thing outside it. See Gothenburg taxi versus chauffeur.

Are your Gothenburg chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Sweden has no special licence category for chauffeur cars: every paid passenger car is licensed as a taxi. Each operator holds a taxi traffic licence (taxitrafiktillstånd) from Transportstyrelsen under the Taxitrafiklagen (2012:211), and each driver holds a taxiförarlegitimation. A car either runs an approved taximeter reporting to a certified redovisningscentral, or is connected to a licensed beställningscentral and only carries trips pre-booked at a fixed price, with proof of price before the trip.

Is a fixed price legal for a Swedish taxi trip?

Yes. A price agreed before the trip is lawful in Sweden, and since 2021 a car connected to a licensed booking centre can run without a taximeter provided it carries only pre-booked trips at a fixed price, with the price shown before the trip and payment through the booking centre. That is the model a RYDES booking follows.

How long is the drive from Landvetter to Svenska Mässan?

About 24 km, usually 20 to 30 minutes and 35 to 50 minutes at peak. On the opening morning of a big fair the streets around Korsvägen fill up, so leave extra time. The airport coach also stops at Korsvägen if you are alone with light luggage. See Landvetter to Svenska Mässan and Svenska Mässan transfers.

Can you take me to Volvo at Torslanda?

Yes. Torslanda is on Hisingen, about 42 km from Landvetter, and the drive is usually 40 to 50 minutes off-peak and 55 to 80 minutes at rush hour because the route crosses the city and the river. Visiting teams often book the car by the hour for a day between the plant, the hotel and the city. See Volvo Torslanda and Landvetter to Torslanda.

Do you meet cruise ships at Arendal?

Yes. Cruise ships use the Arendal terminal on the western side of Hisingen. The season runs May to August, with 28 calls in 2026. Arendal to Landvetter is about 40 km, roughly 40 to 55 minutes off-peak. The chauffeur names the meeting point before the ship docks. See Gothenburg cruise terminal transfers.

Can I get a car out to Marstrand and the archipelago?

Yes. Marstrand is about 70 km from Landvetter, usually 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 25 off-peak, and summer weekends add time. The island town is reached by a short crossing, so the drop is at the quay. We also cover Saltholmen for the southern archipelago boats. See Marstrand and the archipelago and Landvetter to Marstrand.

Can you drive me from Gothenburg to Copenhagen?

Yes, as one fixed fare. It is about 333 km over the Øresund Bridge, usually 4 hours to 4 hours 45. The bridge toll, DKK 470 at the toll station or DKK 420 online for a car from 14 September 2026, is inside the price. A licensed operator for the Danish side is confirmed at booking. See Gothenburg to Copenhagen.

How long is Gothenburg to Oslo by car?

About 317 km measured from Landvetter, usually 4 hours to 4 hours 45 plus any time at the Norwegian border. It is priced as one fare and confirmed by dispatch at booking because it crosses into Norway. Bring a passport or national ID. See Gothenburg to Oslo, or Gothenburg to Malmö heading south.

Would the airport coach be better for me?

Sometimes, and we would rather say so. On your own with a carry-on and going to a hotel near the central station or Korsvägen, the Vy Flygbussarna coach from stop 1 takes about 20 minutes to the Nils Ericson Terminal, and FlixBus 691 serves the same terminal. A chauffeur makes sense with company, children, real luggage, a late flight, or an address the coach does not reach.

How much free waiting do I get at Landvetter?

Sixty minutes from the actual landing time, tracked against the aircraft rather than the timetable. Every other pickup, including the fairground and the cruise terminal, includes 15 minutes. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before it starts.

Can I hire a car and chauffeur by the hour in Gothenburg?

Yes, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute steps. It suits a fair day at Svenska Mässan, a supplier tour on Hisingen or a wedding with several venues. Paid parking at a stop is the only cost outside the quote. See hourly chauffeur hire and wedding transportation.

How far ahead should I book in Gothenburg?

At least 3 hours before pickup, and reservations open up to a year ahead. Book early for the Gothenburg Film Festival (29 January to 7 February 2027), Göteborgsvarvet (22 May 2027), Gothia Cup in July, Way Out West (12 to 14 August 2027) and large fairs at Svenska Mässan. Regular travellers should look at corporate accounts.
