What a Nuremberg booking looks like.

One fleet and one pricing rule. What changes is how the operator dispatches the car for the job in front of it.

Messe days.

it-sa, Spielwarenmesse and BIOFACH fill the hotels and the roads to Messe Nürnberg at the same time. A car held by the hour for hourly car service waits between the halls and a dinner in the Altstadt, with a two-hour minimum. Exhibitor teams use corporate travel accounts for the whole week.

What is a Nuremberg chauffeur service?

A Nuremberg chauffeur service is private transport booked in advance at a fixed euro price and driven by a Mietwagen operator licensed by the Ordnungsamt der Stadt Nürnberg (Stab Verkehr, Bürgerdienste Mobilität) under the Personenbeförderungsgesetz, the federal Passenger Transport Act. It is not a taxi, it cannot be flagged down, and it never waits at a rank. The car, the chauffeur and the total are settled before pickup, whether the job is a Nuremberg Airport transfer, an hourly car service across a fair day or a black car to a meeting in Erlangen.

German law shapes how this works for you. Section 49(4) of the PBefG says a Mietwagen may only carry passengers on bookings received at the operator's business seat, and after each trip it must return to that base unless the next booking was already in hand, the rule known as the Rückkehrpflicht. In plain terms, a RYDES car in Nuremberg is always pre-booked, always at a price agreed beforehand, and the chauffeur at the kerb is there for you by name rather than for whoever reaches the door first. RYDES arranges the booking; the licensed chauffeur operator carries out the journey. That is also why a Nuremberg car service booking costs the same when the A73 is jammed: there is no meter to keep running.

One reservation covers the wider region. Fixed NUE to Altstadt and NUE to Messe Nürnberg runs, the commute to Erlangen and Herzogenaurach, evenings at the Christkindlesmarkt, and long runs such as Nuremberg to Regensburg or NUE to Munich Airport. Weighing it against the rank is covered on the Nuremberg taxi alternative page, and companies with travellers here every month use corporate travel in Nuremberg for central invoicing.

The airports that serve Nuremberg.

One compact international airport close to the centre, a separate terminal for business aircraft beside it, and Munich for the long-haul flights Nuremberg does not have.

Times are door to door from the pickup point in a direct private vehicle. Peak here means the weekday commuter hours on the Frankenschnellweg and the ring roads, and fair mornings and evenings around the Messe, which can run longer than either column. During the Christkindlesmarkt, the last stretch into the Altstadt is the slow part rather than the airport road.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

Nuremberg is small enough that the walk from baggage to the car takes minutes. The question is which car park, because the space in front of the terminal is short-stay and charged.

Nuremberg Airport.

Nuremberg Airport handled 4,508,765 passengers in 2025, up 11.9 percent and a record for the airport, all through a single terminal complex. There is no terminal to guess and no train between buildings. Arrivals come out on the same frontage, and the car is a short walk away in the short-stay area in front of the building.

Your free default pickup is at P5, the short-term car park directly in front of the terminal, or at the P2 or P3 garage if the chauffeur names one in the message sent before you land. P5 allows the first 15 minutes free and then charges €2 for the first hour; the garages charge €4 to €5 an hour. Whatever the chauffeur pays to collect you is already in your price. Timing for the drive is on NUE to the Altstadt.

  • P5 short-stay, the free defaultYour chauffeur waits in the car park in front of the terminal, or the garage named in the pre-arrival message, and walks you to the car.

General Aviation Terminal.

Business aircraft use the General Aviation Terminal at Flughafenstraße 100, run together with AirPart GmbH. It is open Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 21:30, and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 08:30 to 18:00. Give us the tail number or the handling agent with the booking, and the chauffeur is briefed to the terminal rather than the main frontage.

Outside those hours the arrangement depends on your handler, so tell us your expected arrival time at booking and the operator confirms where the car can wait. Your chauffeur confirms the exact door in the message sent before you land.

Munich Airport.

Some Nuremberg journeys start at Munich Airport, because that is where the long-haul flights land. A Lufthansa Express Bus links Nuremberg with Munich Airport, and for a single traveller it is a reasonable choice. A chauffeur becomes the better option with a group, children, a late arrival, or a destination in Erlangen or Herzogenaurach that the coach does not reach.

The drive is about 171 km, usually 1 hour 45 to 2 hours, and up to 2 hours 45 when the Autobahn south is busy. It is one fixed fare, and the chauffeur confirms the meeting point at Munich in the pre-arrival message. For the Munich end of a trip, see chauffeur service in Munich.

Pickup arrangements above were checked against public sources in October 2026. Car park numbering and charges can change, so the message your chauffeur sends before you land is the authority on where to walk.

Tolls, VAT and the airport car park.

Road charges barely feature in a Nuremberg fare. Two things still reach the fare: the tax rate, and the airport's short-stay charges.

Germany has no car toll on its Autobahns and no congestion charge in any city, so the Autobahns around Nuremberg cost nothing to drive. Nuremberg has also never had an Umweltzone, so no green sticker is needed to enter the centre. The road charges that inflate fares in other cities simply do not exist here.

Tax is where a chauffeur and a taxi differ. Taxi fares in Germany carry the reduced VAT rate, and on a short ride across town that lower rate genuinely helps the taxi. Mietwagen, which is what a RYDES car legally is, carry the standard 19 percent, a position the Federal Fiscal Court (Bundesfinanzhof) confirmed in 2014. That 19 percent is inside every RYDES price, along with any P5 or garage charge for an airport pickup. Paid parking you ask for elsewhere, such as the car waiting in a restaurant garage, is the one cost outside it.

Nuremberg has not set a minimum fare for Mietwagen. On 5 December 2025 a cross-party motion in the city council asked the administration to enforce the Rückkehrpflicht and to report on the checking model used in Hamburg. None of this changes how a RYDES booking works, because every booking already meets the return-to-base rule. The full side-by-side is on Nuremberg taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Distances in Nuremberg are short, so a small jam is a large share of the trip. The Frankenschnellweg, the city section of the A73 carrying more than 60,000 vehicles a day, decides most of these numbers.

Voters approved the expansion of the Frankenschnellweg in a referendum on 28 June 2026. Section West, from the Nürnberg/Fürth interchange to the Jansenbrücke, could start in February 2027 and adds a third lane; Section Mitte, with a 1.8 km tunnel, follows later. Expect roadworks to stretch the Fürth and Erlangen times while it is built, and plan fair-day departures from the Messe with a buffer of their own.

Out into Franconia and beyond.

Day trips and intercity runs are one fixed fare for the whole journey rather than a meter, so a slow Autobahn is the operator's cost rather than yours.

What the Nuremberg price contains.

No meter, no demand pricing, and no line that turns up on the invoice after you have left the car.

VAT at 19 percent
The standard rate that applies to Mietwagen is inside the quoted euro number. There is nothing to add at the end.
Airport parking for your pickup
The P5 or garage charge the chauffeur pays to collect you at NUE is counted as an airport fee and already included.
No tolls, no zone charges
German Autobahns carry no car toll and Nuremberg has no Umweltzone. If a route crosses into Austria, the vignette or section toll is inside the price.
Tracking your flight
Send the flight number and the pickup follows the aircraft, whether it lands early or an hour late, at no charge.
An hour free at the airport
Sixty minutes of waiting from the real landing time, enough for bags at NUE. At every other pickup, 15 minutes free, then 15-minute increments that you hear about before they start.
Short-stay pickup
Collection at P5 or the car park named in your message costs nothing extra. Meet and greet in the arrivals hall is a paid add-on.
Cancel free up to 24 hours ahead
Change or cancel at no cost until 24 hours before pickup. Inside that window the booking is charged in full, because the car and chauffeur are already committed.
A licensed Mietwagen operator
Every car is run by an operator licensed by the Ordnungsamt der Stadt Nürnberg or its local equivalent, and every chauffeur holds the Fahrerlaubnis zur Fahrgastbeförderung, the passenger transport permit known as the P-Schein.
Tipping is up to you
The chauffeur's pay for the run was agreed before they accepted it. A gratuity is offered once at payment and you can add one or skip it.
Child seats and pets
Child seats are supplied on request as a paid add-on and fitted by the parent. Pets are a paid add-on; service animals always ride free.
What is not included
Parking you ask for away from the airport, such as the car waiting in a garage while you dine. Everything else is in the quote.

When you should not book us.

Nuremberg Airport has its own U-Bahn line straight to the Hauptbahnhof, and for a lot of travellers that train is the right answer.

The U2 runs from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof in about 12 minutes, with up to six trains an hour from about 04:00 until after midnight. A VGN zone A single costs €3.65 bought online or €3.90 at the machine from 1 January 2026, and if you hold a Deutschlandticket at €63 a month, the ride is already paid for. For one traveller with light luggage going to the Altstadt, the U2 is hard to beat, and we would sooner say so than sell you a car you do not need.

A chauffeur pays its way when the picture changes: several people sharing the cost, a fair stand's worth of cases, small children, a flight landing after the last train, a destination the U2 does not serve such as Erlangen, Herzogenaurach or the Messe from the airport side, or a day with stops in three places. The full comparison of cost and time is on Nuremberg taxi versus chauffeur.

Is a RYDES car in Nuremberg a taxi?

No. It is a Mietwagen, a pre-booked hire car with driver licensed under section 49(4) of the Personenbeförderungsgesetz. It cannot be flagged down, may not wait at taxi ranks, and after each trip returns to its operator's base unless the next booking was already received. For you, that means the trip is always booked ahead at a fixed price and the chauffeur is coming for you specifically. See the Nuremberg taxi alternative.

Who licenses chauffeur operators in Nuremberg?

The Ordnungsamt der Stadt Nürnberg, through its Stab Verkehr (Bürgerdienste Mobilität) at Innerer Laufer Platz 3, licenses Mietwagen operators in the city under the federal Passenger Transport Act. Each chauffeur holds the Fahrerlaubnis zur Fahrgastbeförderung, the P-Schein. Since 2021 new applicants prove professional competence rather than local street knowledge. RYDES arranges the booking and the licensed operator carries out the journey.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Nuremberg Airport?

At the P5 short-term car park directly in front of the terminal, or in the P2 or P3 garage if the chauffeur names one in the message sent before you land. NUE has a single terminal complex, so the walk is short. Meet and greet in the arrivals hall is a paid add-on. Detail is on the Nuremberg Airport transfer page.

Do I pay the airport parking when you collect me?

No. P5 is free for the first 15 minutes and then €2 for the first hour, and the P2 and P3 garages charge €4 to €5 an hour. Whatever the chauffeur pays to collect you is treated as an airport fee and is inside the quoted price. Parking you request elsewhere, such as the car waiting at a restaurant garage, is not included.

Does Nuremberg have an Umweltzone or a congestion charge?

Neither. Nuremberg has never had an Umweltzone, so no green sticker is needed, and no German city has a congestion charge. Germany also has no car toll on its Autobahns. If a route crosses into Austria, the vignette or section toll is included in the fare.

Is VAT included in the price?

Yes. RYDES cars are Mietwagen, which carry the standard 19 percent VAT, as the Federal Fiscal Court confirmed in 2014. That 19 percent is inside every quoted price, along with the airport pickup charge. Taxis pay a reduced rate, which helps them most on short rides across town. The comparison is on Nuremberg taxi versus chauffeur.

How long does Nuremberg Airport to the Altstadt take?

About 7 km, usually 13 to 18 minutes off-peak and 20 to 30 minutes at busy times. The Hauptbahnhof is about 8 km and similar. During the Christkindlesmarkt the final approach into the Altstadt is the slow part. See NUE to the Altstadt.

Should I just take the U2 from the airport?

Often, yes. The U2 reaches the Hauptbahnhof in about 12 minutes, with up to six trains an hour from about 04:00 until after midnight. A VGN zone A single costs €3.65 online or €3.90 at the machine from 1 January 2026, and the Deutschlandticket at €63 a month covers it. For one traveller with light luggage to the Altstadt, it is hard to beat. A chauffeur makes sense with a group, heavy luggage, children, a late landing, or a destination the U2 does not reach.

How do I get to Messe Nürnberg on a fair day?

Book ahead. NUE to the Messe is about 13 km, 21 to 25 minutes off-peak and 30 to 45 minutes on fair days; the Hauptbahnhof to the Messe is about 6 km. For it-sa (27 to 29 October 2026), Spielwarenmesse (2 to 6 February 2027) and BIOFACH (16 to 19 February 2027), a car held by the hour saves queuing at the end of the day. See Messe Nürnberg transfers and NUE to Messe Nürnberg.

Can you drive me to Erlangen or Herzogenaurach?

Yes. Erlangen, home to Siemens, is about 17 km from the airport and usually 21 to 25 minutes off-peak. Herzogenaurach, with adidas, Puma and Schaeffler, is about 23 km and 24 to 28 minutes off-peak, up to 40 minutes at peak. Both are fixed fares. See NUE to Erlangen and NUE to Herzogenaurach.

How does the Christkindlesmarkt affect pickups?

The market opens with the Prolog on Friday 27 November 2026 at 17:30 and runs to 24 December, daily from 10:00 to 21:00 and 10:00 to 14:00 on Christmas Eve. Altstadt access is tight while it runs, so your chauffeur confirms the nearest practical set-down and pickup point in the pre-arrival message. See Christkindlesmarkt transfers.

Can you take me to Munich Airport?

Yes. It is about 171 km by Autobahn, usually 1 hour 45 to 2 hours and up to 2 hours 45 in heavy traffic, priced as one fixed fare. A Lufthansa Express Bus also links Nuremberg with Munich Airport, which suits a single traveller. See NUE to Munich Airport and chauffeur service in Munich.

Do you do day trips to Bamberg, Rothenburg or Bayreuth?

Yes, as a fixed one-way fare or a car held by the hour with waiting. From the Hauptmarkt, Bamberg is about 59 km, Bayreuth about 85 km, Rothenburg ob der Tauber about 106 km and Regensburg about 110 km. For the Bayreuth Festival from 29 July to 24 August 2027, book early. See Nuremberg to Bamberg, Nuremberg to Bayreuth and Nuremberg to Rothenburg.

Can I book a chauffeur by the hour in Nuremberg?

Yes, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments. The car waits between stops, which suits fair days, plant visits along the corridor and evenings in the Altstadt. Paid parking you ask for at a stop is the only cost outside the quote. See hourly chauffeur hire in Nuremberg.

How far ahead should I book in Nuremberg?

At least 3 hours before pickup, so the operator can assign and brief a chauffeur; reservations open up to a year ahead. Book early for it-sa, Spielwarenmesse, BIOFACH, the Christkindlesmarkt, Rock im Park at the Zeppelinfeld (4 to 6 June 2027) and the Norisring DTM (2 to 4 July 2027). Teams travelling often should use corporate accounts.

Do the chauffeurs speak English?

We do not promise it. If you need an English-speaking chauffeur, say so in the booking notes and the operator confirms whether one can be assigned before your trip.

What if my flight is delayed, or lands around the clock change?

Add the flight number and we track the aircraft, so a delay moves the pickup at no cost and the 60 free minutes start at the actual landing. Clocks in Germany go back one hour on 25 October 2026, the end of Central European Summer Time; for early flights that week, check your booking shows the local time you mean. If a flight is diverted, dispatch re-briefs the chauffeur.
