Cambridge corporate travelA Cambridge chauffeur service is pre-arranged ground transport booked ahead at a fixed price, carried out by a licensed private hire operator. It is not hailed on the street and not dispatched on demand. The vehicle, the chauffeur and the price are all settled before the day of travel, whether the booking is a STN airport transfer, an hourly car service or a black car to a morning meeting.
In practice that distinction decides what happens when things go wrong. A metered taxi and a surge-priced app both re-price themselves when traffic turns or the weather does. A reserved Cambridge car service booking does not. The number you agreed is the number you pay, and it already contains the congestion charge, any clean air zone charge, the airport drop-off fee and VAT.
The same reservation covers the rest of the region: Luton transfers, Heathrow transfers, Gatwick transfers, and a car service to London when the trip runs further out. For companies moving people through the city regularly, corporate travel in Cambridge adds central billing and duty-of-care reporting on top of the same fleet.
Which one is right depends far more on where you are going than on which is nearest. Each has its own page with terminal detail and pickup arrangements.
| Airport | Distance | Typical drive, off-peak | Typical drive, peak | Best for |

Drive times are door to door from the arrivals kerb, not gate to gate, and they assume a direct private vehicle rather than a shared shuttle. Peak means roughly 07:00 to 10:00 and 15:30 to 19:30 on a weekday.
Cambridge has no commercial airport, a historic centre largely closed to cars, and a corporate demand profile that has almost nothing to do with tourism.
The city centre is threaded with bus gates and pedestrian zones, and several of the most obvious routes across the middle of Cambridge are simply not available to private vehicles. Enforcement is by camera and the penalties are automatic. As in Oxford, this is a non-issue for a local operator and a persistent trap for an out-of-town driver with a satnav. Pickups in the core are frequently on an agreed street rather than at the address, and your chauffeur will say which.
College access follows the same pattern. Most colleges are entered through a porters' lodge on a particular street, many have no vehicle access at all, and a postcode will regularly place you on the far side of a court you cannot cross. Name the college and the lodge when you book rather than giving a postcode, particularly for graduation and the start of term, when families arrive with a term's worth of luggage and fixed ceremony times.
The commercial character of this market is life sciences and technology rather than sightseeing. The Cambridge Biomedical Campus at Addenbrooke's, the Science Park north of the city, Granta Park and the Babraham Research Campus generate a steady flow of corporate and clinical travel that runs to fixed schedules, much of it to and from Stansted and Heathrow. Those bookings are a large share of what we do here and they are why capacity in this market is committed further ahead than a visitor would expect.
Stansted at thirty miles is the natural airport and the M11 is the artery for essentially every journey in and out. Heathrow at seventy miles requires the M25, which is why that run carries a much wider time range. There is no commercial service from Cambridge City Airport, which handles private and general aviation only.
Details above were checked against public sources at the time of writing. Rates, terminal assignments and construction timelines in this section change faster than any website updates, so treat your chauffeur's message on the day as the authority.
Published transfer times are usually the best case. These are ranges, and the upper end happens often enough to plan around.
| Route | Off-peak | Weekday peak | What moves it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stansted to Cambridge | 45 to 60 min | 1h to 1h 30 | The M11 north, the default Cambridge airport run |
| Heathrow to Cambridge | 1h 40 to 2h 10 | 2h to 3h | The M25 then the M11, and the M25 decides everything |
| Luton to Cambridge | 1h to 1h 25 | 1h 20 to 2h | Across country on the A505 and M11 |
| Stansted to the Biomedical Campus | 45 to 60 min | 1h to 1h 30 | Addenbrooke's and the life sciences cluster |
| Cambridge to the Science Park | 15 to 25 min | 25 to 45 min | North of the city, and the corporate demand centre |
| Cambridge to Newmarket | 20 to 30 min | 30 to 50 min | The racing town, and race days differ |
Each route above has its own page with pricing by vehicle class, the roads actually used and the times worth avoiding.
Intercity runs are priced as one fixed fare for the whole journey, not per hour, so the traffic is our problem rather than yours.
| Destination | Distance | Typical drive | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| London | 65 miles | 1h 25 to 2h 10 | The M11 south, and central London charges apply |
| Newmarket | 15 miles | 25 to 40 min | Racing and the bloodstock industry |
| Ely | 17 miles | 25 to 45 min | The cathedral city on the fens |
| Oxford | 85 miles | 1h 45 to 2h 20 | Across country, the two-university run |
| Norwich | 65 miles | 1h 25 to 1h 45 | East across the fens and into Norfolk |
| Duxford | 10 miles | 20 to 35 min | The air museum, usually a return with waiting |
The chauffeur meeting you is dispatched by an operator based here, not routed in from another market.

No meter, no surge multiplier, and no line item that appears after the ride is over.
The direct rail service between Stansted and Cambridge takes around thirty five minutes and runs frequently, and there are good coach links to Heathrow and central London. For a single traveller with a bag they can manage, the train from Stansted is quicker than a car at peak and much cheaper, and we would not pretend otherwise.
A chauffeur earns its price with a family and heavy luggage, on graduation and matriculation days, for college drop-offs where the lodge matters, on the Heathrow run where the M25 is the whole problem, for the research campuses where the last mile is awkward and the schedule is fixed, and for early departures where the first train does not go early enough.
The full cost and time comparison against the meter is on Cambridge taxi versus chauffeur.
The terminal assignment, the pickup zone that moved last month, the parking permit for that garage. None of it reaches you.
Pickup, drop-off, date and time. Add a flight number and we track the aircraft rather than the schedule.

It depends far more on your destination than on distance. Stansted (STN), Luton (LTN), Heathrow (LHR) are the main options, and the drive times differ enough that the cheapest ticket is often not the cheapest arrival. The table above sets out distance and typical drive time for each, and every airport has its own page with terminal detail and pickup arrangements.
In the designated pre-arranged pickup area for your terminal, with the chauffeur calling as you reach the doors. Pickup zones at STN change during construction and reorganisation, so the operator confirms the current meeting point on the morning of your flight rather than relying on anything printed in advance. Being met inside arrivals on your name is a paid add-on.
Between 45 to 60 min off-peak and 1h to 1h 30 in weekday peak traffic, door to door from the arrivals kerb. Published figures shorter than that usually describe a quiet Sunday morning. Each route from the airport has its own page with the roads used and the times worth avoiding.
Yes. Congestion charging, ULEZ and clean air zone charges, any remaining tolls, airport drop-off and pickup fees and VAT are all inside the price quoted at booking. Drop-off charges now apply at almost every significant UK airport and are the ones travellers least expect. An app service will typically pass them through separately or route you to a distant car park to avoid them.
Yes. Private hire in Britain is licensed by Transport for London in the capital and by the local council everywhere else, with separate regimes in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Every vehicle is run by an operator licensed by the relevant authority, verified before they can take a booking. A licensed private hire vehicle must be pre-booked and may not be hailed in the street or wait on a taxi rank, which is why your chauffeur meets you at an agreed point.
Sixty minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time, tracked against the aircraft rather than the schedule, which covers immigration, baggage and customs. Every other pickup includes 15 minutes. Beyond the free window, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the vehicle class rate and you are told before it starts.
At least 3 hours before pickup so the operator can assign and brief a chauffeur, though RYDES takes reservations up to a year out. For group vehicles and for the busy weeks noted above, book as early as you can, because availability runs out long before price becomes the problem.
Add your flight number and we track the aircraft. A delay moves your pickup automatically and costs nothing, with free waiting starting at the actual landing time. A diversion is handled by dispatch, who will re-brief a chauffeur to the new field where the operator has coverage. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
Yes, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments. The chauffeur waits between stops and nothing runs while you are inside a meeting. Once a day involves three or more stops, hourly hire is usually cheaper than separate transfers once you count the waiting you would have done anyway.
Stansted, at around thirty miles and forty five to sixty minutes up the M11, is much the closest and carries a wide European short-haul network. Luton is fifty miles across country. Heathrow is seventy miles and requires the M25, which is why that journey can take anything from an hour and forty to three hours. Gatwick at ninety five miles is a long run. For long-haul, Heathrow is usually the right answer despite the drive.
Yes, and please name the college and the porters' lodge rather than giving a postcode. Many Cambridge colleges have no vehicle access, are entered through a lodge on a specific street, and sit behind bus gates that private vehicles cannot pass. A postcode will often place you on the wrong side of a court. Your chauffeur will confirm the accessible street before arrival.
Yes, and they are a large share of our work here. The Cambridge Biomedical Campus at Addenbrooke's, the Science Park, Granta Park and Babraham all generate steady corporate and clinical travel on fixed schedules, mostly to and from Stansted and Heathrow. Corporate accounts here get central billing, cost centre reporting and traveller profiles, and standing bookings are held rather than re-quoted each time.
