What is a Berlin chauffeur service?

A Berlin chauffeur service is private transport booked in advance at a fixed euro price and carried out by a Mietwagen operator licensed by the Landesamt für Bürger- und Ordnungsangelegenheiten (LABO) under the federal Passenger Transport Act. The car cannot be stopped on the street, cannot wait at a taxi stand, and is sent to you because your booking reached the operator first. Vehicle class, chauffeur and price are fixed ahead of time, whether the job is a BER airport transfer, an hourly car service in Berlin or a black car to a meeting in Mitte.

Where it pays off is on a bad day. App prices move when demand spikes after a Messe closes or the marathon shuts half the city, and a metered taxi runs on while the A100 crawls past the closed Ringbahnbrücke. A reserved Berlin car service fare does not move. It already contains 19 percent VAT and any Kiss & Fly or short-term parking charge at BER, and Germany has no motorway toll or congestion charge to add on top.

The same booking reaches well past the Ringbahn. BER to Mitte and BER to the Kurfürstendamm for hotel arrivals, BER to Messe Berlin for IFA and InnoTrans, Berlin to Potsdam for palaces and lakeside hotels, and the Warnemünde cruise transfer when a ship leaves from the Baltic. A metered ride is compared honestly on Berlin taxi alternative, and weekly travellers can use corporate travel in Berlin.

The airports that serve Berlin.

Berlin has one commercial airport, BER, south-east of the city on the Brandenburg side. The nearest alternatives are in other states and far enough away that they rarely make sense.

Drive times are door to door from the pickup point in a private vehicle, not a shared shuttle. Weekday peak in Berlin means roughly 07:00 to 09:00 and 16:00 to 19:00. Trade fair opening and closing hours, the marathon weekend and A100 weekend closures sit outside both columns. Terminal 5, the old Schönefeld building, saw its last flights in February 2021 and the decision not to reopen it came in November 2022, so ignore any old booking that names it.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

BER does not publish a dedicated limousine pickup point. What it has is a short-stop system with a clock and a camera, two terminals that work as one, and a separate building for private aircraft.

BER Terminal 1.

Terminal 1 is the main building at BER and handles most airlines. Kiss & Fly short-stop bays sit in front of it on both levels: departures upstairs for drop-off, arrivals below for pickup. Number-plate recognition starts the clock on entry, the first 10 minutes are free, and free use is capped at three times in any eight-hour block. Beyond that the airport sells a Kiss & Fly Deal at €17 for the first hour, and from 1 December 2026 the bays accept cashless payment only.

That clock is the reason a chauffeur does not simply sit at the kerb for an hour while your bags come off. Instead the chauffeur can hold in car park P3, which has its own pickup tariff, and come to the arrivals bays once you message that you have your bags. Whatever the airport charges for that is inside a RYDES fare. Timings into town are on BER to Mitte.

  • Short-stop pickup, the free defaultAt the Kiss & Fly arrivals bays or the car park your chauffeur names in the pre-arrival message, usually P3.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onYour chauffeur waits in the Terminal 1 arrivals hall with your name, worth it after a long-haul flight with checked bags.
  • Rail below, cars outsideBER station is directly under Terminal 1, so the arrivals hall is busy with rail passengers. Your message names the exit to use.
BER Terminal 1 · 900 × 600

BER Terminal 2.

Terminal 2 opened in March 2022 and is used mainly by Ryanair. It works as a check-in hall rather than a full terminal: passengers check in at Terminal 2 and reach their gates through Terminal 1, so the two buildings work as one airport rather than two.

Pickups for Terminal 2 use the arrivals-level short-stop bays or the P7 and P8 car parks. Your chauffeur picks whichever is closest to the exit you will use and puts it in the message before you land.

BER Terminal 2 · 900 × 600

General Aviation Terminal.

Private and business aircraft use the General Aviation Terminal, operated by ExecuJet, part of Luxaviation. It was refurbished and reopened in September 2023 and has its own customs and security, so passengers do not pass through the public terminals at all.

Send the tail number or handler reference and the chauffeur waits at the terminal door. The drive into the city is the same as from Terminal 1, so the BER to Potsdamer Platz timings apply.

The rules behind the pickup.

In Germany a pre-booked chauffeur car is a Mietwagen, licensed under section 49(4) of the Personenbeförderungsgesetz (PBefG), the federal Passenger Transport Act. In Berlin the licence is issued and checked by LABO. A Mietwagen may only take jobs that were received at the operator's business seat. It cannot be flagged down, it may not wait at taxi ranks, and after each trip it has to return to its base unless the next booking was already received. That last rule is the Rückkehrpflicht.

Drivers carry the Fahrerlaubnis zur Fahrgastbeförderung, the passenger transport driving permit known as the P-Schein. Since 2021 new applicants prove professional competence rather than local street knowledge. For you, all of this means the trip is always pre-booked, the price is agreed in advance, and the chauffeur who arrives was sent for you and nobody else. It is also why you will never find a RYDES car waiting on the street. RYDES arranges the booking; the licensed chauffeur operator carries out the journey.

Licensing · 900 × 600
Ordnungsnummer in the rear window of a Mietwagen

Pickup and charging details were checked against public sources in October 2026. Kiss & Fly tariffs and car park allocations change, and BER restricts its forecourts to vehicles of 3.5 tonnes or less, so treat your chauffeur's message as the final word on where to walk.

VAT, the Umweltzone and the airport clock.

Germany has no car toll on its Autobahns and Berlin has no congestion charge. What shapes a fare here is the VAT rate, the low-emission zone inside the Ringbahn and the short-stop charge at BER.

Taxis in Germany pay the reduced 7 percent VAT rate, which helps a taxi on shorter city fares. A Mietwagen, and so every RYDES chauffeur car, pays the standard 19 percent, which the Federal Fiscal Court (Bundesfinanzhof) confirmed in 2014. That 19 percent is already inside the figure you are quoted, never added at the end.

Berlin's Umweltzone covers everything inside the S-Bahn Ringbahn and requires a green sticker, including on vehicles registered abroad. RYDES operators' cars carry it. In September 2026 the Bundesrat approved exempting E-plate electric cars from the sticker, but that change is not yet in force. At BER, any Kiss & Fly or short-term parking charge incurred for your pickup is counted as an airport fee and sits inside the price. The only charge outside it is parking you ask for elsewhere, such as the car waiting in a hotel or restaurant garage.

Routing matters more than any tariff while the A100 is broken at Dreieck Funkturm. The route into Charlottenburg or the Messe is the operator's decision and does not change your fare. The side-by-side cost comparison with a metered ride is on Berlin taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

BER sits south-east of the city, so almost every run into town relies on the A100 for part of the way. Off-peak the drive is predictable; at peak, and around the closed bridge in the west, it is not.

Typical door-to-door driving times on common Berlin routes, for a direct private vehicle.

BER to Warnemünde cruise port2 h 45 to 3 h 103 h 15 to 3 h 45About 263 km north; getting clear of Berlin is the slow part

The A100 is the variable. The Ringbahnbrücke at Dreieck Funkturm has been closed since March 2025 and has been demolished, and the northern carriageway between Messedamm and Spandauer Damm is not due back until summer 2027, which hits runs to Charlottenburg, the Messe and the west. Full weekend closures on other stretches also happen, such as 28 to 31 August 2026 at Mecklenburgische Straße. The 3.2 km section from Dreieck Neukölln to Treptower Park, open since 27 August 2025, has made the east quicker. On trade fair days, add half the off-peak time as a buffer.

Leaving town.

Each intercity run is one fixed fare for the whole distance, not a meter or an hourly rate, so a jam on the Berlin ring costs the operator time rather than costing you money.

What the Berlin price contains.

One euro figure, agreed before the ride, with nothing appended once you are out of the car.

19 percent VAT
The standard rate that applies to Mietwagen is inside the quoted figure. Germany has no Autobahn toll and Berlin no congestion charge, so there is nothing to add for roads.
BER short-stop and car park charges
Any Kiss & Fly or short-term parking charge incurred to collect you at BER is treated as an airport fee and already counted.
A tip only if you want one
The chauffeur accepted this run at an agreed rate, so their pay does not hinge on it. You are offered the option once at payment, and saying no is fine.
Flight tracking
Add the flight number and the pickup follows the aircraft, whether it lands early, late or after midnight, at no extra cost.
An hour of waiting at BER
Sixty minutes free from the actual landing time, which covers passport control and baggage. Other pickups include 15 minutes, then 15-minute increments you are told about before they start.
Short-stop pickup as standard
Collection at the Kiss & Fly bays or the car park named in your pre-arrival message costs nothing extra. Being met in the arrivals hall with your name is a paid add-on.
Cancel free up to 24 hours ahead
Change or cancel without charge until 24 hours before pickup. Inside that window the fare is charged in full, because the car and chauffeur are already committed.
A licensed Mietwagen operator
Every Berlin vehicle is run by an operator licensed under the PBefG, with the licence, insurance and drivers' P-Schein checked before the operator takes RYDES work.
Child seats and pets
Child seats are supplied as a paid add-on and fitted by the parent. Pets are a paid add-on; service animals always ride free.
What is not included
Parking you ask for away from the airport, such as the car waiting in a hotel garage while you dine. Everything else is in the quote.

When you should not book us.

BER was built with a railway station underneath it, and for plenty of trips the train is the better answer.

Arriving alone with hand luggage and staying near Hauptbahnhof, take the FEX Airport Express from the station under Terminal 1. It reaches Hauptbahnhof in about 30 minutes. The RE8 and RB23 also run to Hauptbahnhof, the RB23 continues to Charlottenburg, and the RB22 goes to Potsdam. The S9 is slower but runs every 20 minutes, about 43 minutes to Alexanderplatz and about 50 to Hauptbahnhof. BER is in fare zone C, so a single ABC ticket costs €5.00, and the €63 a month Deutschlandticket covers the S-Bahn, the RE and RB trains and the FEX.

A chauffeur is worth paying for in other situations: luggage you would rather not drag through a station, three or more people, small children, a flight landing after the trains thin out, an address the rail lines do not serve well, a day with several stops, or a trade fair morning when every train is full. The full time and cost comparison is on Berlin taxi versus chauffeur.

Berlin questions.

If yours is not here, dispatch answers around the clock at +1 888 881 7933 or support@rydes.co.

Which airport should I fly into for Berlin?

BER, Berlin Brandenburg, which handled 26.05 million passengers in 2025. It is the only commercial airport for the city. Terminal 5, the former Schönefeld terminal, closed permanently after its last flights in February 2021. Leipzig/Halle and Dresden are 150 to 190 km away and are not practical alternatives unless your trip ends in Saxony. See BER airport transfers.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at BER?

By default at the Kiss & Fly short-stop bays on the arrivals level or in the car park your chauffeur names in the message sent before you land, often P3 for Terminal 1 and P7 or P8 for Terminal 2. BER does not publish a dedicated limousine pickup point. Meet and greet in the arrivals hall with a name sign is a paid add-on. Details are on the BER airport transfer page.

Can you collect me from a private jet at BER?

Yes. Business aircraft use the General Aviation Terminal run by ExecuJet, part of Luxaviation, which was refurbished and reopened in September 2023 and has its own customs and security. Send the tail number or handler reference and the chauffeur waits at the terminal door. See BER airport transfers.

Is there a toll or congestion charge in Berlin?

No. Germany has no car toll on its Autobahns and Berlin has no congestion charge. The area inside the S-Bahn Ringbahn is an Umweltzone that requires a green sticker, including on foreign vehicles, and RYDES operators' cars carry it. An exemption for E-plate electric cars was approved by the Bundesrat in September 2026 but is not yet in force.

Are VAT and airport charges included in the price?

Yes. The quoted euro price contains 19 percent VAT, the standard rate that applies to Mietwagen, and any BER Kiss & Fly or short-term parking charge incurred for your pickup. Taxis pay a reduced rate on shorter fares, but RYDES cars do not. The only cost outside the quote is parking you ask for elsewhere. Compare on Berlin taxi versus chauffeur.

Are your Berlin chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Every car is run by a Mietwagen operator licensed under section 49(4) of the Personenbeförderungsgesetz, with the licence issued and checked by LABO, the Landesamt für Bürger- und Ordnungsangelegenheiten. Drivers hold the Fahrerlaubnis zur Fahrgastbeförderung, the P-Schein. You can check the licence number, the Ordnungsnummer, in the rear window of the car.

Why can I not stop a RYDES car on the street?

Because German law does not allow it. A Mietwagen may only carry passengers whose booking reached the operator's business seat, it may not wait at taxi ranks, and after each job it must return to its base unless the next booking was already received. That is why every RYDES trip is pre-booked at a fixed price, and why the chauffeur who arrives was sent for you specifically.

How are unlicensed ride-hail cars handled in Berlin?

LABO enforces the licensing rules. In April 2024 it checked more than 8,900 vehicles working through platforms and found problems with over 24 percent, such as no permit, an uncovered vehicle or a wrong base, and those cars were removed from the platforms. In March 2024 the Berlin Administrative Court upheld withdrawing a licence whose registered base had no office or parking, calling the return-to-base duty a core obligation. Hundreds more were removed in 2026, and many operators now licence in neighbouring Brandenburg districts. No Mietwagen minimum fare is in force in Berlin.

How long does BER to Mitte take?

Usually 30 to 40 minutes off-peak and 45 to 65 minutes in weekday peak traffic, for about 27 km. Potsdamer Platz and Hauptbahnhof are similar. Runs to Charlottenburg and the Messe take longer while the Ringbahnbrücke on the A100 is closed. See BER to Mitte and BER to the Kurfürstendamm.

Is the train from BER a better option?

Sometimes, and we would rather say so. The FEX Airport Express reaches Hauptbahnhof in about 30 minutes from the station under Terminal 1, and the S9 runs every 20 minutes to Alexanderplatz in about 43 minutes. A single ABC ticket is €5.00, and the €63 Deutschlandticket is valid on the S-Bahn, RE and RB trains and the FEX. A chauffeur makes more sense with luggage, a group, children, a late arrival or several stops.

Can you get me to Messe Berlin during a trade fair?

Yes, and it is worth booking early. IFA runs 4 to 8 September 2026, InnoTrans 22 to 25 September 2026, and ITB Berlin 16 to 18 March 2027. BER to the Messe is about 32 km, 35 to 45 minutes off-peak and 50 to 75 at peak, and the closed A100 bridge at Dreieck Funkturm is right beside the grounds until at least summer 2027. See BER to Messe Berlin and hourly chauffeur hire for stand days.

Do you run cruise transfers to Warnemünde?

Yes. Warnemünde in Rostock is Berlin's cruise port, about 263 km from BER and 235 to 240 km from central Berlin, so plan on roughly 2 hours 30 to 3 hours 15 depending on the start. The 2026 season is forecast at 162 calls by 34 ships and runs to about the end of October. Send the ship name and sailing date with the booking. See Warnemünde cruise transfers.

Can you drive me to Potsdam, Leipzig, Dresden or Hamburg?

Yes, each at one fixed fare. Potsdam is about 35 km, 40 to 60 minutes. Leipzig and Dresden are about 190 to 195 km, a little over 2 hours. Hamburg is about 290 km, 3 hours or more. See Berlin to Potsdam, Berlin to Leipzig, Berlin to Dresden and Berlin to Hamburg.

Can I book a chauffeur in Berlin for the whole day?

Yes. Hourly hire has a two-hour minimum and is sold in 30-minute increments after that. The car waits between stops, which suits ministry visits, embassy rounds and trade fair days. Parking you ask for away from the airport is the one cost outside the quote. See hourly chauffeur in Berlin.

How far in advance should I book in Berlin?

At least 3 hours before pickup, and reservations open up to a year ahead. Book early for the Berlin Marathon on 26 and 27 September 2026, DKOU from 20 to 23 October 2026, the Christmas markets from 23 November, the Berlinale from 10 to 21 February 2027 with the EFM from 9 to 16 February, and ITB in March. Frequent travellers should look at corporate accounts.

What if my flight is delayed, or I need an English-speaking chauffeur?

With a flight number we track the aircraft, so a delay moves the pickup automatically and free waiting starts from the actual landing. Clocks in Germany go back one hour on 25 October 2026, which matters for very early departures booked before that date. An English-speaking chauffeur can be requested in the booking notes, and the operator confirms whether one is assigned.
