Getting into Bruges and out again.

Bruges is small, slow inside the ring and a long way from its main airport. Most bookings here are one of these four.

Most ships at Zeebrugge are in port for the day, and Bruges is 18 km inland. A Zeebrugge cruise transfer gets you to the Markt and back to the quay before all-aboard, or straight to Brussels Airport at the end of a voyage.

Zeebrugge cruise transfers

What is a Bruges chauffeur service?

A Bruges chauffeur service is private transport booked ahead at a fixed price, carried out by an operator licensed under the Flemish Decree of 29 March 2019 on individual paid passenger transport. That operator holds a licence from a Flemish municipality that is valid across the whole region, and every driver carries a bestuurderspas. Because the trip is booked rather than hailed, the car can collect you anywhere in Flanders, which is what makes a Brussels Airport transfer to Bruges, an hourly car service in Bruges or a Zeebrugge cruise transfer one booking with one price.

Bruges has no airport of its own, so almost every arrival involves a long transfer. The city's taxi firms publish flat rates for pre-booked airport runs, €200 from Brussels Airport, €250 from Charleroi and €70 from Ostend, and they can be adjusted during the year. A reserved Bruges car service gives you the same certainty with the vehicle class chosen by you, and the 6 percent VAT is already inside the number. That comparison, with the train included, is laid out on Bruges taxi alternative.

The same reservation reaches well beyond the canals. Ostend airport to Bruges in about half an hour, the battlefields on a Flanders Fields tour, Bruges to Ghent for the day, Zeebrugge to Brussels Airport after a cruise, and onward to Calais for the Channel crossing. For companies and planners moving groups through the city, private transfers and group transportation sit on the same licensed fleet.

The airports and the port that serve Bruges.

None of them is in Bruges. Ostend is the closest, Brussels has the long-haul flights, and Zeebrugge is where the cruise ships tie up.

Times run door to door from the pickup to a hotel inside the ring, in a private vehicle. Peak here means the Brussels ring and the E40 at weekday commuter hours, and summer weekends on the coast roads. The last kilometre inside Bruges is slow at any hour because most of the centre is a bicycle zone at 30 km/h where cars may not overtake cyclists, so allow for it on top of the motorway time.

Where your chauffeur meets you.

A Bruges transfer has three kinds of meeting point. The airport is the easy one. The quay depends on the ship, and the hotel door depends on the hour.

Airport arrivals.

At Brussels Airport, Ostend-Bruges and Charleroi, the free default is a standard pickup: your chauffeur names the drop-off zone or short-stay car park in the message sent before you land, and any kerb or short-term parking charge for that pickup is inside your price. Brussels Airport sits in Zaventem, in Flanders, so the same Flemish licensing that covers Bruges covers the pickup there.

From Ostend the drive is about half an hour. Brussels and Charleroi are long runs, so the 60 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time matters more here than in most cities. Timing for each drive is on Brussels Airport to Bruges and Ostend airport to Bruges.

  • Standard pickup, the free defaultThe drop-off zone or short-stay car park your chauffeur names in the pre-arrival message.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onYour chauffeur waits inside arrivals with your name, useful after a long-haul flight into Brussels.
  • Charleroi and LilleFurther away and outside Flanders; dispatch confirms the operator and the meeting point when you book.

The Zeebrugge cruise quay.

Zeebrugge handled 187 ship calls and about 557,000 cruise passengers in 2024, and the port expects 180 to 190 calls a year in 2025 and 2026. Most are transit calls, where passengers have one day ashore, and the Swedish Quay takes two ships at once. On a two-ship day the quay roads and the road into Bruges fill at the same moment, which is why a pre-booked Zeebrugge cruise transfer is worth more than the distance suggests.

Send the ship name and the date with your booking. Your chauffeur confirms where to walk off the quay in the message before you disembark, and the return pickup is set with a margin before all-aboard. For embarkation or the end of a voyage, Zeebrugge to Brussels Airport is priced as one fare. Shore power arrives in 2027 and a new terminal is expected in spring 2029, so meeting points may change before then.

Coaches are banned inside the R30 ring, on the Vrijdagmarkt and on 't Zand; tour groups are put down at the coach park on Bargeweg at Kanaaleiland, 93 places and a 20-minute walk from the Markt. That ban covers coaches only. Cars and minivans may enter, so sedans and vans can reach most hotel doors outside the restricted hours.

The restricted hours are enforced by ANPR camera. Steenstraat, the orange zone, is car-free from 13:00 to 18:00 every day. The Katelijnestraat area, the yellow zone, is restricted at the same hours every day, and the green zone from 13:00 to 18:00 at weekends. Guests of licensed accommodation can still be driven in to check in, but the hotel has to file the permit form by 11:00 the next business day, so tell your hotel the car is coming. Arrive before 13:00 or after 18:00 and none of this applies.

  • Sedan, SUV or vanTo the hotel door outside 13:00 to 18:00, and inside those hours when the hotel files the permit.
  • Group class minibusMay count as a coach in the centre; dispatch confirms the drop-off point before the day.
  • Private homes and rentalsYour chauffeur confirms the nearest street a car can legally reach.

Access rules, zone colours and quay arrangements above were checked against public sources in October 2026. The city can change restricted hours and the port can move berths, so treat the message your chauffeur sends before pickup as the authority on where to stand.

Tolls, VAT and the city flat rates.

Belgium charges cars nothing to use its motorways, so a Bruges fare is shaped by distance, VAT and the one-off charges of an airport pickup.

There is no motorway toll on any of the usual Bruges routes. The only toll for cars in Belgium is the Liefkenshoek tunnel in Antwerp, €6.20 by card for a car under 3 m, which matters only on some runs to the Antwerp Left Bank. When a route uses it, it is already inside your RYDES price. So is the airport kerb or short-term parking charge incurred when your chauffeur collects you.

Passenger transport in Belgium carries 6 percent VAT, and it is included in every quote rather than added at the end. The one thing outside the price is parking you ask for elsewhere. If you hire a car by the hour and want it to wait near the centre, the Centrum-Station car park has 1,690 places at €1.40 an hour with a maximum of €7.10 per 24 hours, and a free bus to the centre.

How the main ways of reaching Bruges are priced. Flat rates are those published for pre-booked trips by Bruges taxi firms, October 2026, and may be adjusted during the year.

The flat rates are a fair benchmark, and for a couple with two cases from Ostend a local taxi at €70 may well be the right booking. Where a RYDES reservation earns its place is the choice of class, the free waiting on a late flight, the cruise and Charleroi runs, and one booking that also covers the day trips. The full comparison is on Bruges taxi versus chauffeur.

How long the drive takes.

The motorway part of a Bruges transfer is predictable. The Brussels ring is not, and the last stretch through the centre runs at cycling speed.

Busy days in Bruges are calendar days rather than rush hours. Winter Glow runs from 20 November 2026 to 31 January 2027 and the Christmas markets from 20 November to 3 January, which brings evening crowds to the centre. The Holy Blood Procession on Ascension Day, Thursday 6 May 2027, drew about 25,000 spectators in 2026 and closes streets around the route. The Triennale Brugge runs from 24 April to 5 September 2027, and the cruise season peaks from April to October. Clocks go back on 25 October 2026; check early departure times against the new hour.

Day trips and onward journeys.

When you should not book us.

Belgian rail is good, and Bruges station has fast, frequent trains to the places most visitors come from.

From Brussels-Midi, trains to Bruges take about an hour and run three times an hour. From Brussels Airport there is a direct train every hour that takes about 1 hour 25. If you are travelling alone with a small bag from Brussels, the train is the right call, and a short taxi or the walk from Bruges station finishes the job. From Charleroi, the Flibco shuttle runs 24 trips a day; from Ostend airport, a bus to Ostend station connects with the train.

A chauffeur makes sense in other conditions: two or more people with checked luggage, young children, a late arrival after the hourly train has gone, a cruise call with a fixed all-aboard time, a hotel door the train cannot reach, or a day linking Ypres, Ghent and the coast. That is why most people book, but not everyone should, and we would rather you heard it here. The side-by-side numbers are on Bruges taxi versus chauffeur.

Does Bruges have an airport?

Not in the city itself. The closest is Ostend-Bruges (OST), about 32 km and roughly half an hour away, which handled more than 400,000 passengers in 2025. Most international travellers land at Brussels Airport (BRU), about 107 km away, and low-cost flights often use Brussels South Charleroi (CRL), about 147 km away. See Brussels Airport to Bruges and Ostend airport transfers.

How long is the drive from Brussels Airport to Bruges?

Usually 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 off-peak, and 1 hour 40 to 2 hours 15 when the Brussels ring and the E40 are busy on weekday evenings. The distance is about 107 km. The direct hourly train takes about 1 hour 25. See Brussels Airport to Bruges.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at the airport?

By default at a standard pickup point, the drop-off zone or short-stay car park your chauffeur names in the message sent before you land, and any parking charge for that pickup is inside your price. Being met inside arrivals with your name is a paid add-on. Details are on Brussels Airport transfers to Bruges.

Can a car drive me to my hotel in the centre of Bruges?

Usually, yes. The ban inside the R30 ring covers coaches, not cars or minivans, so sedans and vans reach most hotel doors. Some streets are car-free or restricted from 13:00 to 18:00, enforced by camera, but guests of licensed accommodation can be driven in to check in if the hotel files the permit form by 11:00 the next business day. Tell your hotel the car is coming. See private transfers in Bruges.

Which streets in Bruges are closed to cars?

Steenstraat, the orange zone, is car-free from 13:00 to 18:00 every day. The Katelijnestraat area, the yellow zone, is restricted at the same hours every day, and the green zone from 13:00 to 18:00 at weekends. The rules are enforced by ANPR camera. Most of the centre is also a bicycle zone with a 30 km/h limit, where cars may not overtake cyclists.

Can you collect us from a cruise ship at Zeebrugge?

Yes. Zeebrugge is about 18 km from the Bruges centre, usually 20 to 30 minutes. Send the ship name and date with the booking, and your chauffeur confirms where to meet you off the quay before you disembark. Most calls are transit calls, so the return is set with a margin before all-aboard. See Zeebrugge cruise transfers.

Can you take me from Zeebrugge to Brussels Airport?

Yes, as one fixed fare. Allow 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 45 off-peak and 2 hours to 2 hours 30 on a weekday morning, when disembarkation traffic meets the Brussels commute. Free waiting at the quay is 15 minutes, and we track the ship. See Zeebrugge to Brussels Airport.

Is it cheaper than a Bruges taxi?

Not always, and the comparison is public. Bruges taxi firms publish pre-booked flat rates of €200 from Brussels Airport, €250 from Charleroi and €70 from Ostend, which may be adjusted during the year. A RYDES price is quoted per vehicle class with 6 percent VAT included, plus 60 minutes free waiting after landing. Compare both on Bruges taxi alternative.

Are your Bruges chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Every trip is carried out by an operator licensed under the Flemish Decree of 29 March 2019 on individual paid passenger transport. The operator holds a licence from a Flemish municipality that is valid across Flanders, and every driver holds a bestuurderspas. Pre-booked trips may start anywhere in Flanders, including Brussels Airport in Zaventem.

Are VAT and tolls included in the price?

Yes. Passenger transport in Belgium carries 6 percent VAT, and it is inside every RYDES price. There are no motorway tolls on the usual Bruges routes; the one toll for cars in Belgium, the Liefkenshoek tunnel in Antwerp, is also included when a route uses it. Parking you ask for elsewhere is the only thing outside the quote.

Should I take the train instead?

Sometimes. From Brussels-Midi, trains to Bruges take about an hour and run three times an hour, and Brussels Airport has a direct hourly train that takes about 1 hour 25. Travelling alone with a small bag, the train is the right call. A chauffeur earns its price with luggage, children, a group, a late arrival or a cruise deadline.

Can you take us to the Flanders Fields?

Yes. Ypres is about 70 km from Bruges, usually 55 minutes to 1 hour 15. Most visitors book by the hour, two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments, so the car waits while you walk the town and the battlefield sites. See Flanders Fields tours and Bruges to Ypres.

How far is Ghent from Bruges?

About 54 km, usually 45 minutes to an hour and longer in peak traffic. It works as a one-way transfer with luggage or as a day with the car waiting. See Bruges to Ghent and Ghent from Bruges.

Can you drive me to Calais or Lille?

Often, but these are cross-border trips into France, so dispatch confirms them at booking rather than selling them automatically. Calais is about 116 km, usually 1 hour 25 to 1 hour 50, for Eurotunnel and the ferries. Lille is about 76 km. See Bruges to Calais and Bruges to Lille.

Can you carry a large group into Bruges?

Yes, with planning. Coaches are banned inside the R30 ring and are put down at the Bargeweg coach park at Kanaaleiland, a 20-minute walk from the Markt. Our Group class minibus may count as a coach, so dispatch confirms the drop-off point. Two vans can often reach the hotel door instead. See group transportation.

When should I book early in Bruges?

Book at least 3 hours ahead; reservations open up to a year out. Book well ahead for Winter Glow (20 November 2026 to 31 January 2027), the Christmas markets (to 3 January 2027), the Holy Blood Procession on 6 May 2027, the Triennale Brugge from 24 April to 5 September 2027, cruise days from April to October and summer weekends. Weddings are on wedding transportation.

What if my flight or ship is late?

Add the flight number, or the ship and date, and we track it. A delay moves your pickup at no cost, and airport waiting is free for 60 minutes from the actual landing. After the free window, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments and you are told before it starts. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
