Cardiff corporate travelA Cardiff chauffeur service is pre-arranged ground transport booked ahead at a fixed price, carried out by a licensed private hire operator. It is not hailed on the street and not dispatched on demand. The vehicle, the chauffeur and the price are all settled before the day of travel, whether the booking is a CWL airport transfer, an hourly car service or a black car to a morning meeting.
In practice that distinction decides what happens when things go wrong. A metered taxi and a surge-priced app both re-price themselves when traffic turns or the weather does. A reserved Cardiff car service booking does not. The number you agreed is the number you pay, and it already contains the congestion charge, any clean air zone charge, the airport drop-off fee and VAT.
The same reservation covers the rest of the region: Bristol transfers, Heathrow transfers, Birmingham transfers, and a car service to Bristol when the trip runs further out. For companies moving people through the city regularly, corporate travel in Cardiff adds central billing and duty-of-care reporting on top of the same fleet.
Which one is right depends far more on where you are going than on which is nearest. Each has its own page with terminal detail and pickup arrangements.
| Airport | Distance | Typical drive, off-peak | Typical drive, peak | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CardiffCWL | 12 miles | 30 to 40 min | 40 to 65 min | The Welsh national airport, with a limited but useful schedule |
| BristolBRS | 45 miles | 1h to 1h 20 | 1h 15 to 1h 50 | A far wider schedule, and the Severn crossing is now free |
| HeathrowLHR | 150 miles | 2h 30 to 3h | 2h 50 to 4h | Long-haul, and a common booking from South Wales |
| BirminghamBHX | 115 miles | 2h to 2h 30 | 2h 20 to 3h 10 | Midlands connections |

Drive times are door to door from the arrivals kerb, not gate to gate, and they assume a direct private vehicle rather than a shared shuttle. Peak means roughly 07:00 to 10:00 and 15:30 to 19:30 on a weekday.
Cardiff is the only capital in Britain where the national stadium sits in the middle of the shopping streets, and on an international day that single fact reorganises the whole city.
The Principality Stadium is in the city centre rather than on the outskirts, a few minutes' walk from the main station and the shopping streets. On a rugby international or a major concert, extensive road closures come into force across the centre for hours before and after, whole streets become pedestrian, and vehicles cannot reach addresses that are perfectly accessible on any other day. If you are travelling on a match day, your pickup will be at an agreed point outside the closure rather than at your hotel door, and it is confirmed on the day rather than in advance. An operator who knows which streets close first is the whole value of booking locally here.
Wales introduced a default twenty mile per hour limit on restricted roads in September 2023, replacing the thirty that applies in most of the rest of Britain. It applies across residential and built-up areas throughout the country. The practical effect on a journey is real but modest, adding a few minutes to most urban legs, and it is already built into the drive times on this page. Visitors from England routinely underestimate its effect on short local runs.
Cardiff Airport is at Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan, about twelve miles southwest of the city, and the approach roads are slower than a straight-line distance implies. Its schedule is limited compared with Bristol, which is forty five miles away with far more routes and, since the Severn tolls were abolished in 2018, no crossing charge. A great many South Wales travellers now fly from Bristol by default, and the Bristol run is one of our most frequent bookings in this market.
Drop-off charges apply at both airports and are charged to the vehicle rather than to you. On a RYDES booking they are inside the quoted price.
Details above were checked against public sources at the time of writing. Rates, terminal assignments and construction timelines in this section change faster than any website updates, so treat your chauffeur's message on the day as the authority.
Published transfer times are usually the best case. These are ranges, and the upper end happens often enough to plan around.
| Route | Off-peak | Weekday peak | What moves it |
|---|---|---|---|
| CWL to Cardiff city centre | 30 to 40 min | 40 to 65 min | Twelve miles that take longer than the distance suggests |
| CWL to Cardiff Bay | 30 to 45 min | 45 to 70 min | The waterfront and the Senedd |
| Bristol Airport to Cardiff | 1h to 1h 20 | 1h 15 to 1h 50 | Over the Severn, and the crossing no longer costs anything |
| CWL to the Principality Stadium | 30 to 45 min | 1h to 2h | International days close the entire city centre |
| CWL to Penarth and Cowbridge | 20 to 35 min | 30 to 55 min | The Vale of Glamorgan, close to the airport |
| CWL to Swansea | 55 to 70 min | 1h 10 to 1h 45 | West on the M4 |
Each route above has its own page with pricing by vehicle class, the roads actually used and the times worth avoiding.
Intercity runs are priced as one fixed fare for the whole journey, not per hour, so the traffic is our problem rather than yours.
| Destination | Distance | Typical drive | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bristol | 45 miles | 1h to 1h 20 | The Severn crossings have been toll free since 2018 |
| Swansea | 40 miles | 50 to 75 min | The M4 west |
| The Brecon Beacons | 40 miles | 1h to 1h 25 | Usually booked hourly as a day |
| Bath | 60 miles | 1h 15 to 1h 45 | Over the Severn and east |
| London | 150 miles | 2h 45 to 3h 45 | The M4 east, usually chosen when the train is disrupted |
| Tenby and Pembrokeshire | 105 miles | 2h to 2h 40 | West along the M4 and beyond |

No meter, no surge multiplier, and no line item that appears after the ride is over.
Cardiff city centre is compact and genuinely walkable, and there is a rail shuttle between Cardiff Airport and Rhoose Cardiff International Airport station plus the T9 bus to the city centre. For a single traveller with a bag they can carry, those work and cost very little.
A chauffeur earns its price on the Bristol Airport run where the drive is over an hour and the schedule is far better, on match days when the closures make an app booking genuinely unreliable, for the Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire days booked hourly, with a group or serious luggage, and for early departures from an airport that is further out than it looks.
The full cost and time comparison against the meter is on Cardiff taxi versus chauffeur.
The terminal assignment, the pickup zone that moved last month, the parking permit for that garage. None of it reaches you.

It depends far more on your destination than on distance. Cardiff (CWL), Bristol (BRS), Heathrow (LHR) are the main options, and the drive times differ enough that the cheapest ticket is often not the cheapest arrival. The table above sets out distance and typical drive time for each, and every airport has its own page with terminal detail and pickup arrangements.
In the designated pre-arranged pickup area for your terminal, with the chauffeur calling as you reach the doors. Pickup zones at CWL change during construction and reorganisation, so the operator confirms the current meeting point on the morning of your flight rather than relying on anything printed in advance. Being met inside arrivals on your name is a paid add-on.
Between 30 to 40 min off-peak and 40 to 65 min in weekday peak traffic, door to door from the arrivals kerb. Published figures shorter than that usually describe a quiet Sunday morning. Each route from the airport has its own page with the roads used and the times worth avoiding.
Yes. Congestion charging, ULEZ and clean air zone charges, any remaining tolls, airport drop-off and pickup fees and VAT are all inside the price quoted at booking. Drop-off charges now apply at almost every significant UK airport and are the ones travellers least expect. An app service will typically pass them through separately or route you to a distant car park to avoid them.
Yes. Private hire in Britain is licensed by Transport for London in the capital and by the local council everywhere else, with separate regimes in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Every vehicle is run by an operator licensed by the relevant authority, verified before they can take a booking. A licensed private hire vehicle must be pre-booked and may not be hailed in the street or wait on a taxi rank, which is why your chauffeur meets you at an agreed point.
Sixty minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time, tracked against the aircraft rather than the schedule, which covers immigration, baggage and customs. Every other pickup includes 15 minutes. Beyond the free window, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the vehicle class rate and you are told before it starts.
At least 3 hours before pickup so the operator can assign and brief a chauffeur, though RYDES takes reservations up to a year out. For group vehicles and for the busy weeks noted above, book as early as you can, because availability runs out long before price becomes the problem.
Add your flight number and we track the aircraft. A delay moves your pickup automatically and costs nothing, with free waiting starting at the actual landing time. A diversion is handled by dispatch, who will re-brief a chauffeur to the new field where the operator has coverage. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
Yes, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments. The chauffeur waits between stops and nothing runs while you are inside a meeting. Once a day involves three or more stops, hourly hire is usually cheaper than separate transfers once you count the waiting you would have done anyway.
Yes, but not necessarily from your hotel door. The Principality Stadium is in the middle of the city centre, and on internationals and major concerts extensive road closures apply for hours before and after, making addresses unreachable that are perfectly accessible on any other day. We agree a pickup point outside the closure and give you a walking instruction to reach it, confirmed on the day rather than in advance.
Cardiff is closer at twelve miles but has a limited schedule. Bristol is forty five miles away with far more routes, and since the Severn tolls were abolished in December 2018 the crossing costs nothing, so a great many South Wales travellers now use it by default. The Bristol run is around an hour to an hour and twenty. If the route you want is only at Bristol, the extra drive is usually worth it.
A little, and it is already built into the times shown on this page. Wales moved to a default twenty mile per hour limit on restricted roads in September 2023, where most of Britain uses thirty. It adds a few minutes to urban legs rather than transforming them, but visitors from England consistently underestimate it on short local journeys, so we plan for it rather than around it.
