Stockholm black car service

What is a Stockholm chauffeur service?

A Stockholm chauffeur service is a private car and driver booked ahead at a fixed price, run by an operator holding a taxi traffic licence (taxitrafiktillstånd) from Transportstyrelsen, the Swedish Transport Agency, under the Taxitrafiklagen (2012:211). Sweden has no separate limousine licence, so every chauffeur car carrying paying passengers is a licensed taxi in law, driven by someone holding a taxiförarlegitimation. The difference lies in how the trip is sold: a Arlanda airport transfer, an hourly car service or a black car to a meeting is agreed in advance, with the car class and the total settled before the day.

Swedish law makes that model explicit. A licensed car either runs an approved taximeter reporting to a certified redovisningscentral, or, since 2021, is connected to a licensed booking centre (beställningscentral) and carries only pre-booked trips at a fixed price, with proof of the price before departure and payment through the booking centre. A fixed fare agreed in advance is therefore lawful and normal here. A Stockholm car service booked through RYDES works that way, and the total already contains the 6 percent moms on passenger transport, the congestion tax, which taxis pay like everyone else, and the terminal fee at Arlanda. That is the honest case for a taxi alternative: the number cannot move on the day.

The same booking reaches beyond the inner city. Arlanda to Stockholmsmässan for the February fairs, Arlanda to Nynäshamn for a cruise embarkation, Stockholm to Uppsala and Sigtuna on the airport side of the county, and long fixed-fare runs such as Stockholm to Gothenburg and Stockholm to Oslo. Companies with people landing every week can move that onto a corporate travel account in Stockholm with central invoicing. RYDES quotes in euros; your card is charged in euros.

The airports that serve Stockholm.

Stockholm is effectively a one-airport city now. Arlanda carries the international and almost all domestic traffic, and the terminal you land at is the detail that matters most for pickup.

Times run door to door in a direct private car rather than a shared coach. Weekday peak means roughly 07:00 to 09:00 and 15:30 to 18:00 on the E4 and the inner-city approaches. Snow and ice between December and March sit outside both columns: a heavy snowfall can stretch the Arlanda run well past the peak figure, so plan a winter departure as its own category.

Where you are collected.

Arlanda has rewritten its terminal map in the last year, and Swedavia sets firm rules on who may stand in the arrivals hall. The cruise quays work on their own terms.

Arlanda Terminal 5 and Terminal 2.

Arlanda handled 24,320,031 passengers in 2025, up 6.9 percent on the year before according to Transportstyrelsen. Since October 2025 the check-in, baggage and security of Terminal 4 have moved to Terminal 5, so Ryanair and Wizz Air passengers now use Terminal 5 too. Terminal 2 serves carriers such as Air France, KLM, easyJet and Vueling, and Terminal 3 a few small regional airlines. Those assignments come from secondary sources and change, so check your booking.

Swedavia allows only drivers with a pre-booked car into the arrivals hall to meet passengers, which is exactly the arrangement a RYDES booking is. Contracted taxis wait outside Terminal 5 and Terminal 2 for walk-up trade. Your chauffeur names the exact meeting point in the message sent before you land. Timing for the drive itself is on Arlanda to Stockholm city centre.

Bromma.

Bromma, in the west of the city, used to be the business traveller's shortcut. That has largely gone: it handled 27,853 passengers in 2025, down 97 percent after Braathens moved its flights to Arlanda. If your itinerary still shows Bromma, the drive into town is short and is quoted to the address like any other pickup.

For almost every visitor in 2026 the arrival airport is Arlanda, and the planning question is which terminal and which part of the city. Office districts north of the centre, such as Kista, sit closer to Arlanda than the old town does; see Arlanda to Kista.

Cruise quays and ferry terminals.

Stockholm was Sweden's largest cruise port in 2025, with 43 percent of the country's cruise passengers. Between May and August 2026 the city logged 96 calls and Nynäshamn, on the coast south of the city, a further 15. Ships berth mainly at Stadsgården below the Södermalm cliffs and at Frihamnen, the free port north-east of the centre; Värtahamnen next door handles large ferries.

A cruise port transfer is collected at the terminal building of your berth, and the chauffeur works from the ship's published arrival time rather than the first passenger off. Disembarkation morning is the busiest time on the quay roads, so a flight out of Arlanda the same day deserves margin. Overnight ferries to Finland link the city with Helsinki; give the terminal name when you book.

Cruise quay · 900 × 600

Terminal and carrier details were checked in October 2026, partly against secondary sources. Airlines move between terminals, and ships between berths, so take your booking and the message from your chauffeur as the final word on where to walk.

Congestion tax, moms and the Arlanda fee.

Stockholm has a road charge that most visitors never see, a terminal fee at the airport, and a VAT rate on every passenger fare. On a RYDES booking all three sit inside the price.

Stockholm's congestion tax applies to the inner city on weekdays from 06:00 to 18:29, and taxis are not exempt. In 2026 the high-season peak charge is SEK 45 per passage with a daily maximum of SEK 135, falling to a daily maximum of SEK 105 in low season. High season runs from 1 March to the day before Midsummer Eve and from 15 August to 30 November. Nothing is charged on public holidays, on the days before them, or in July apart from its first five weekdays. The Essingeleden bypass on the E4 is charged separately, at up to SEK 40 at peak in high season.

On top of that, a SEK 50 terminal fee is charged by the landowner on taxi trips leaving Arlanda, as Taxi Stockholm's price list shows, and Swedish passenger transport carries 6 percent moms. None of these appears as a separate line on a RYDES booking. The congestion passages on your route, the airport charge and the VAT are inside the quoted total, and the one cost outside it is paid parking when you ask a car to wait somewhere that charges.

How charges reach the passenger on the Arlanda run, by way of travelling. Taxi zone fares are those published by Swedavia; train fares are from public price lists.

The Swedavia zone fare is a cap for trips into the zones it publishes, and the page shows both SEK 800 and SEK 825, so treat it as around SEK 800. A booked chauffeur is priced close to that for one to four people, which means the argument for booking ahead is certainty about the car and the meeting point rather than a lower fare. The detailed comparison is on Stockholm taxi versus chauffeur.

How long the drive takes.

From Arlanda, most of the journey is the E4, and the slow part is the last few kilometres into the inner city. These ranges start from Terminal 5; Terminal 2 adds a minute or two.

Arlanda to Nynäshamn1 h 30 to 1 h 451 h 50 to 2 h 20About 100 km, crossing the whole county from north to south

Snow, not rush hour, is what breaks these numbers. A proper snowfall on the E4 can push an Arlanda run well beyond the peak column, and the first icy morning of the season is usually the worst. For a flight you cannot miss between December and March, add half the off-peak time again as a margin.

Out into the county and beyond.

Longer trips are priced as one fare for the whole distance, so a slow afternoon on the Värmdö road is the operator's cost and not yours. Most of these journeys start with a landing, so distances are measured from Arlanda.

What a Stockholm fare covers.

No taximeter running, no surge, and no charge added once you have stepped out at the quay or the hotel.

Congestion tax and moms
The congestion passages on the route, the Essingeleden charge where it applies and the 6 percent moms are inside the total, quoted in euros.
Arlanda charges
The terminal fee charged on trips from Arlanda is already counted. Cruise quay pickups are priced the same way.
Tipping is optional
The operator agreed the fare for this run before accepting it, so the chauffeur's pay does not hinge on a tip. You can add one when paying or skip it.
Flight tracking
Send the flight number and the pickup follows the aircraft, early or late, without a charge.
One hour at Arlanda
Sixty minutes of waiting at no cost from the moment the aircraft lands. At any other address the free window is 15 minutes.
Kerbside pickup as standard
Collection at the agreed point outside the terminal costs nothing extra. A greeting inside the arrivals hall with a name board is a paid add-on.
Cancel free up to 24 hours
Change or cancel at no cost until 24 hours before pickup. After that the fare is charged in full, since a car and chauffeur are committed.
A Swedish licensed operator
Each car is run by a holder of a taxitrafiktillstånd from Transportstyrelsen, with the licence and insurance checked before the operator takes RYDES bookings.
Child seats and pets
Child seats can be supplied for a fee and are fitted by the parent. Pets travel as a paid add-on; service animals ride free.
The one exclusion
Paid parking, if you ask the car to wait at a stop that charges. Nothing else is added after booking.

When you should not book us.

Arlanda has some of the best airport rail links in Europe, and for one traveller heading to the centre they are hard to beat.

The Arlanda Express reaches Stockholm Central in 18 minutes, with early-bird tickets from SEK 199 and an adult fare of about SEK 340. The SL commuter train is slower but cheaper: SEK 43 plus the SEK 157 Arlanda passage fee, SEK 200 in all. Flygbussarna coaches run to the city for about SEK 129 booked online. Travelling alone with a carry-on to a hotel near Central, take the train, even at rush hour. A taxi from the rank at Swedavia's capped fare of around SEK 800 is also a fair option for a small group heading into the zones it covers.

A chauffeur is worth booking when the conditions change: three or four people, heavy bags or a pram, an arrival after the trains have thinned out, a destination the line does not reach such as Djurgården, Saltsjöbaden, Värmdö or a cruise berth, several stops in one day, or a snowstorm on the E4. For a car held by the hour, Taxi Stockholm lists its förfogande rate at SEK 775 an hour for one to four passengers, which is a fair benchmark; what a booking adds is the class of car and the chauffeur fixed in advance. The full comparison is on Stockholm taxi versus chauffeur.

Which Arlanda terminal will I land at?

Most long-haul and European flights use Terminal 5, which since October 2025 has also taken over Terminal 4's check-in, baggage and security, including Ryanair and Wizz Air. Terminal 2 serves carriers such as Air France, KLM, easyJet and Vueling, and Terminal 3 a few small regional airlines. Assignments change, so check your booking. Pickup detail is on the Arlanda airport transfer page.

Where will my chauffeur meet me at Arlanda?

Swedavia lets only drivers with a pre-booked car into the arrivals hall to meet passengers, and a RYDES booking qualifies. Standard pickup is at an agreed point outside the terminal at no cost; being met in the hall with a name board is a paid add-on. Your chauffeur names the exact spot in the message sent before you land.

Is there a congestion charge in Stockholm?

Yes. The congestion tax covers the inner city on weekdays from 06:00 to 18:29, and taxis are not exempt. In 2026 the high-season peak is SEK 45 a passage with a daily maximum of SEK 135, or SEK 105 in low season. Essingeleden on the E4 is charged separately, up to SEK 40 at peak. On a RYDES booking the tax is inside the price.

When is the congestion tax not charged?

There is no charge outside 06:00 to 18:29 on weekdays, at weekends, on public holidays and the days before them, or in July apart from its first five weekdays. High season, with the higher rates, runs from 1 March to the day before Midsummer Eve and from 15 August to 30 November.

Are moms, congestion tax and airport fees included?

Yes. The 6 percent moms on passenger transport, the congestion tax passages on your route and the Arlanda terminal fee are all inside the price quoted at booking, in euros. Paid parking at a stop where you ask the car to wait is the only cost outside it. See Stockholm taxi versus chauffeur.

Why do you quote Stockholm prices in euros?

RYDES quotes in euros; your card is charged in euros. The booking system does not offer kronor. Local fares mentioned on this page, such as train tickets, taxi zone fares and the congestion tax, are given in Swedish kronor as published.

Are your Stockholm chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Every car is run by an operator holding a taxi traffic licence (taxitrafiktillstånd) from Transportstyrelsen under the Taxitrafiklagen, and every driver holds a taxiförarlegitimation. Sweden has no separate limousine licence, so a chauffeur car is a licensed taxi in law. Cars either use an approved taximeter or are connected to a licensed booking centre and carry only pre-booked trips at a fixed price.

Is a fixed price legal for a Swedish taxi?

Yes. Since 2021 a car connected to a licensed booking centre (beställningscentral) may run without a taximeter if it carries only pre-booked trips at a fixed price, the passenger has proof of the price before the trip, and payment goes through the booking centre. A fare agreed in advance is lawful and is how a RYDES booking works.

How long is the drive from Arlanda to central Stockholm?

Roughly 40 to 50 minutes off-peak for the 43 km to Stockholm Central, and 55 to 75 minutes in weekday peak traffic. Heavy snow can stretch it further. Kista is 25 to 35 minutes off-peak and Uppsala 30 to 40. See Arlanda to Stockholm city centre and Arlanda to Uppsala.

Should I just take the Arlanda Express?

Often, if you are alone. The Arlanda Express reaches Stockholm Central in 18 minutes, from SEK 199 early-bird or about SEK 340 for an adult. The SL commuter train costs SEK 200 including the Arlanda passage fee, and Flygbussarna about SEK 129 online. A chauffeur makes sense with luggage, with three or more people, late at night, or for a destination the trains do not reach.

What does a taxi from Arlanda cost?

Swedavia publishes a capped zone fare of around SEK 800 for one to four passengers and SEK 1,275 for five to eight. A SEK 50 terminal fee is charged on taxi trips from Arlanda, according to Taxi Stockholm's price list. A RYDES fare is fixed at booking with those charges inside it, and the car class is chosen in advance.

Do you collect from the cruise ships?

Yes. Stockholm was Sweden's largest cruise port in 2025, with ships mainly at Stadsgården and Frihamnen, and Nynäshamn takes calls on the coast to the south. Stadsgården to Arlanda is about 46 km and usually 50 minutes or more; Nynäshamn to Stockholm Central is about an hour. See Stockholm cruise port transfers.

Can you drive us out to the archipelago?

Yes, to the road-connected points: Saltsjöbaden, Gustavsberg on Värmdö and the Kapellskär ferry terminal, each priced as one fare. From Arlanda, Gustavsberg is about 65 km and 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes depending on traffic. See archipelago transfers.

Is there an environmental zone in central Stockholm?

Not at present. A class 3 environmental zone was planned for the blocks between Kungsgatan, Sveavägen, Hamngatan and Birger Jarlsgatan, but the county administrative board overturned it on 26 May 2025, so no such zone restricts cars there today.

How should I plan around Nobel Week and the Furniture Fair?

Book early. The Nobel Prize award ceremony is at the Stockholm Concert Hall and the banquet at City Hall on Thursday 10 December 2026. Stockholm Design Week runs from 8 to 14 February 2027, with the Furniture Fair at Stockholmsmässan from 9 to 12 February. See Nobel Week transport and Stockholmsmässan transfers.

Can I hire a car and chauffeur by the hour?

Yes, from a two-hour minimum in 30-minute steps. Book at least 3 hours ahead; reservations open up to a year out. As a benchmark, Taxi Stockholm lists a car at your disposal at SEK 775 an hour for one to four passengers. See hourly chauffeur hire in Stockholm and corporate accounts.

What happens if my flight is late?

Give us the flight number and the pickup moves with the aircraft at no charge. The 60 free minutes start at the actual landing time; after that, waiting is billed in 15-minute steps at the class rate and you are told before it begins. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
