What is a Stuttgart chauffeur service?

A Stuttgart chauffeur service is a private car and driver booked in advance at a fixed price, carried out by a Mietwagen operator licensed under the Personenbeförderungsgesetz by the Führerscheinstelle of the Amt für öffentliche Ordnung, Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart. The booking reaches the operator before the car moves, the chauffeur drives to you specifically, and the price is settled up front. That holds for a Stuttgart Airport transfer, an hourly car service between plant sites or a black car to a meeting on Königstraße.

Where it differs from a cab is what happens on a bad day. A metered taxi keeps counting while the B14 crawls past the Hauptbahnhof works, and an app can re-price when a fair closes at the Messe and thousands of visitors want a ride at once. A reserved Stuttgart car service does neither. The figure you accepted is the figure you pay, with the 19 percent VAT and any airport pickup charge already inside it. The honest comparison is on the Stuttgart taxi alternative page.

The same reservation reaches the whole region. STR to Messe Stuttgart for exhibitors, STR to the Mercedes-Benz Museum, STR to Porsche in Zuffenhausen, STR to the Metzingen outlets, and longer Ludwigsburg or Tübingen runs. Companies with people arriving every week can add corporate travel in Stuttgart for central invoicing and traveller profiles on the same operators.

The airport and the Messe beside it.

Stuttgart has one commercial airport, south of the city on the Filder plateau, with the trade fair grounds directly next to it. For long-haul flights that STR does not offer, Frankfurt and Munich are a road journey away.

Times run from the pickup point to the door and assume a private car, not a shared shuttle. Peak means roughly 07:00 to 09:30 and 15:30 to 19:00 on weekdays, plus the hour around a fair closing at the Messe. Frankfurt and Munich are measured from the city to Schlossplatz; the airport runs are on Stuttgart to Frankfurt and Stuttgart to Munich, and the city pages are Frankfurt and Munich.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

STR is compact. Four terminal buildings sit in a row and share one airside area, so the hard part is not finding the car but knowing which short-stay rule applies where you stop.

Stuttgart Airport.

Stuttgart Airport handled about 9.6 million passengers in 2025, up 4.8 percent on the year before. Terminal 1 serves Eurowings and Turkish Airlines, the small Terminal 2 handles Lufthansa and Star Alliance, Terminal 3 carries TUIfly, KLM and others, and Terminal 4 is a basic charter building due to be rebuilt. Behind security the four share one airside area, which is why a terminal mix-up costs minutes here rather than an hour.

Your chauffeur collects you on the arrivals level, at the short-stay pickup area or car park named in the message sent before you land. That is usually car park P0, which has a covered walkway and an hour free, or P5, the short-term car park on the arrivals level. Timings into the city are on STR to Schlossplatz.

  • Car park pickup, the free defaultYour chauffeur names P0 or P5 in the pre-arrival message and is parked and ready when you walk out.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onThe chauffeur waits inside the arrivals hall with your name, useful with heavy bags or a first visit.

Kiss & Fly and the short-stay rules.

STR is strict about kerbside time. On the departure level, the Kiss & Fly zone in front of the terminals gives 8 minutes free, tracked by number-plate camera with no ticket. After that it charges, and a 30-minute stay costs €40. A car left longer than 30 minutes is towed, at €240 plus fees. Kiss & Ride on the arrivals level is also 8 minutes free.

That is why chauffeurs meet arriving passengers in a car park rather than hovering at the kerb, and why a delayed bag does not become your problem. Short-term parking runs at €2.50 per 30 minutes in P5 and the other short-stay car parks. Whatever the airport charges for your pickup is treated as an airport fee and sits inside the RYDES price.

Kiss & Fly · 900 × 600
Departure-level drop-off lane in front of the terminals

Messe Stuttgart.

Messe Stuttgart is right beside the airport, about 3 km and seven minutes by road. For an exhibitor landing at STR, the fair is often closer than the terminal car park is to the city. On a quiet day the hop takes 7 to 10 minutes, and on build-up and opening days allow 10 to 20.

The difficult moment is the end of a fair day, when the halls empty at once and the roads around the grounds slow down. A pre-booked car with an agreed pickup point is how exhibitors and visiting buyers avoid that wait. The transfer itself is on STR to Messe Stuttgart, and stand teams moving every day for a week usually do better on hourly hire.

Terminal and airport-charge details were checked against public sources in October 2026. Airlines move between terminals, so confirm yours on the day, and treat the message from your chauffeur as the final word on where to walk.

VAT, emission zones and airport charges.

Stuttgart has no congestion charge and German Autobahns carry no car toll. What shapes a fare here is VAT, the city's emission rules and the airport's short-stay charges, and each reaches you differently depending on how you travel.

Stuttgart is a green-sticker Umweltzone, and it went further than most German cities. Diesel cars at Euro 4 and below have been banned city-wide since 2019, and since July 2020 Euro 5 diesels are banned all year in the small zone covering the Talkessel, Bad Cannstatt, Feuerbach and Zuffenhausen. The rules were in force as of mid-2025. RYDES operators' cars meet them: the operator assigns a Euro 6 or electric vehicle to Stuttgart journeys, so the zone never decides whether your car can reach the door.

Tax is the other difference. Taxis in Germany pay the reduced 7 percent VAT rate on their shorter fares, which helps a short ride across Mitte. A pre-booked Mietwagen is charged the standard 19 percent, confirmed by the Federal Fiscal Court (BFH) in 2014, and that 19 percent is inside every RYDES price. On a run to Zurich the Swiss motorway vignette, CHF 40, is inside the cross-border price as well. The only cost outside a quote is parking you ask for elsewhere, such as the car waiting in a restaurant garage.

Routing is the operator's decision rather than yours. A chauffeur bound for Untertürkheim after 16:00 may leave the B10 for the Filder roads, and one heading for Zuffenhausen weighs the B27 against the A8 depending on the hour. None of that changes what you were quoted. The full side-by-side against a metered fare is on Stuttgart taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Stuttgart sits in a basin, and most traffic is funnelled along a handful of valley roads. A clear run is quick. One closed ramp is not.

Typical door-to-door driving times on common Stuttgart routes, for a direct private vehicle.
RouteOff-peakWeekday peakWhat moves it
STR to Schlossplatz and Mitte18 to 25 min25 to 45 minThe B27 down from the Filder plateau into the Talkessel

STR to the Mercedes-Benz Museum25 to 30 min35 to 50 minB10 again, plus Cannstatter Wasen event traffic next door
STR to Porsche, Zuffenhausen25 to 35 min35 to 55 minAcross the city to the north, by the A8 or through the centre
STR to Sindelfingen19 to 25 min25 to 40 minThe A8 west, the main motorway past the airport
Schlossplatz to Porsche, Zuffenhausen15 to 20 min20 to 35 minNorth out of the Talkessel, slow when the Wasen has an event
Schlossplatz to Untertürkheim15 to 20 min20 to 35 minThe B10 and B14 out of the centre
STR to the Metzingen outlets24 to 30 min35 to 45 minThe B27 south, heavy on Saturdays

The B14 and B10 carry most of the traffic through the Neckar valley, and they have little slack. In 2024 the closure of a single ramp on that axis turned a 30-minute commute into a 90-minute one. Stuttgart 21 works around the Hauptbahnhof continue, and the Cannstatter Wasen fills the roads near Bad Cannstatt on event days. For a flight you cannot miss, add half the off-peak time again as a margin.

Leaving town.

Day trips and longer runs are sold as one fixed fare for the whole journey rather than by the hour, so a slow A8 over the Swabian Jura costs the operator time, not you money.

Common city-to-city routes from Schlossplatz, with approximate road distance and driving time.

Zurich crosses a Schengen border, so passengers still carry a passport or national identity card, and the run is confirmed by dispatch at booking with the vignette counted. Lake Constance, the Black Forest and the outlets depend on the exact address, and the fare is fixed to the one you give. Onward travel from Munich or Frankfurt is covered on the Munich and Frankfurt city pages.

What the Stuttgart price contains.

No meter running, no demand multiplier, and nothing added to the bill after you have stepped out.

VAT at 19 percent
The standard rate that applies to a Mietwagen is already inside the euro figure. No VAT line is added at the end.
STR pickup charges
Whatever the airport charges for your collection, whether Kiss & Fly time or the P0 or P5 car park, counts as an airport fee and is in the quote.
Cross-border tolls
On a Zurich run the Swiss vignette is inside the price. German Autobahns carry no car toll, so there is nothing to add inside Germany.
Flight tracking
Add the flight number and we follow the aircraft. If it lands early or late, the pickup moves with it at no cost to you.
An hour at STR
Free waiting starts when the aircraft actually lands, so passport control and a slow baggage belt are covered. Other pickups include 15 minutes.
Car park pickup
Collection from the short-stay pickup area or car park your chauffeur names, at no extra cost. Being met in the arrivals hall with your name is a paid add-on.
Gratuity, your call
The chauffeur accepted a set payment for this journey before taking it. A tip is offered once at payment; add one or skip it.
Free cancellation
Change or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup. Inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full, because a car and chauffeur are already held for you.
A licensed Mietwagen operator
Every Stuttgart booking is carried out by an operator holding a Mietwagen licence from the city's Führerscheinstelle, with drivers holding the P-Schein, verified before the operator can accept work.
Child seats and pets
Child seats are supplied on request as a paid add-on and fitted by the parent. Pets travel as a paid add-on; service animals are always free.
What is not included
Parking you ask for away from the airport, such as the car waiting in a hotel or restaurant garage. The rest is in the quote.

When you should not book us.

Stuttgart's airport is well served by rail, and for some journeys the train is the better choice.

The S2 and S3 S-Bahn lines run from the airport and Messe station to the Hauptbahnhof in 27 minutes, and the U6 Stadtbahn ends at the Messepiazza, which suits a fair visitor staying near a U6 stop. A VVS day ticket bought online costs €6.90 for one zone or €8.90 for two, depending on how many zones your trip crosses, and the Deutschlandticket at €63 a month covers both. Arriving alone with a carry-on and staying near the Hauptbahnhof, take the S-Bahn. One caution: the Stuttgart 21 partial opening planned for December 2026 was cancelled in November 2025, reports in June 2026 put the full opening at the end of 2031, not confirmed by DB, and building work around the Hauptbahnhof continues.

A chauffeur is worth the price in other conditions: bags you would rather not drag through a construction site, three or more travellers, small children, a late arrival, a destination off the rail lines such as Weissach, Sindelfingen's plant gates or the Metzingen outlets, a day with several stops, or a fair evening when the trains are packed. That is most of why people book us, not all travel, and it is better said here. The full cost and time comparison is on Stuttgart taxi versus chauffeur.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Stuttgart Airport?

On the arrivals level, at the short-stay pickup area or car park named in the message sent before you land, usually car park P0 with its covered walkway or the P5 short-term car park. That is the free default. Being met inside the arrivals hall with your name is a paid add-on. Terminal detail is on the Stuttgart Airport transfer page.

Which STR terminal is my flight?

Terminal 1 serves Eurowings and Turkish Airlines, Terminal 2 handles Lufthansa and Star Alliance, Terminal 3 carries TUIfly, KLM and others, and Terminal 4 is used for charters. All four share one airside area, so a mix-up is short to fix. Assignments change, so confirm on your boarding pass.

Why doesn't my chauffeur wait at the kerb in Kiss & Fly?

Because STR limits it. Kiss & Fly on the departure level and Kiss & Ride on the arrivals level give 8 minutes free, after which the stay is charged, €40 for 30 minutes, and a car left more than 30 minutes is towed at €240 plus fees. A chauffeur waiting for a delayed bag uses a car park instead, and any airport charge for your pickup is inside the RYDES price.

How far is Messe Stuttgart from the airport?

About 3 km, roughly seven minutes by car. The fair grounds are right next to STR, so exhibitors often go straight from the plane to their stand. Allow 10 to 20 minutes on fair days, and book the return in advance for the evening rush when the halls close. See STR to Messe Stuttgart.

Who licenses chauffeur cars in Stuttgart?

A pre-booked chauffeur car in Germany is a Mietwagen under section 49(4) of the Personenbeförderungsgesetz, the federal Passenger Transport Act. In Stuttgart the licence is issued by the Führerscheinstelle of the Amt für öffentliche Ordnung, Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart, at Löwentorbogen 11. Drivers hold the Fahrerlaubnis zur Fahrgastbeförderung, known as the P-Schein. RYDES arranges the journey and the licensed operator carries it out.

Why can't I just flag down a RYDES car?

Because the law does not allow it. A Mietwagen must receive its booking at the operator's business seat before the journey, may not be hailed on the street or wait at taxi ranks, and has to return to its base after each trip unless the next booking is already in. For you that means the price is agreed in advance and the car arriving was sent for you alone.

Is VAT included, and at what rate?

Yes, at 19 percent. Taxis in Germany pay a reduced 7 percent rate on shorter fares, but a pre-booked Mietwagen pays the standard rate, which the Federal Fiscal Court confirmed in 2014. The 19 percent is already inside the euro price you see at booking.

Do the Stuttgart diesel bans affect my booking?

No. Stuttgart is a green-sticker Umweltzone, diesel cars at Euro 4 and below have been banned city-wide since 2019, and Euro 5 diesels are banned in the small zone around the centre, Bad Cannstatt, Feuerbach and Zuffenhausen since July 2020, all in force as of mid-2025. RYDES operators' cars meet the rules, because the operator assigns a Euro 6 or electric car to Stuttgart journeys.

Is there a toll or congestion charge in Stuttgart?

No. Stuttgart has no congestion charge, and cars pay no toll on German Autobahns. The only road charge you might meet on a RYDES journey is the Swiss motorway vignette, CHF 40, on a run to Zurich, and that is inside the cross-border price. See Stuttgart to Zurich.

How long does STR to the city centre take?

From the airport to Schlossplatz, about 13 km, allow 18 to 25 minutes off-peak and 25 to 45 minutes in weekday peak traffic. The Hauptbahnhof is similar, with Stuttgart 21 works around the station. See STR to Schlossplatz.

Can you take me to the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche sites?

Yes. From STR, the Mercedes-Benz plant in Untertürkheim and the museum next door are about 25 to 30 minutes off-peak and 35 to 50 at peak, and Porsche in Zuffenhausen is 25 to 35 minutes off-peak. Sindelfingen is 19 to 25 minutes. Visitor gate details go in the booking notes. See Mercedes-Benz transfers, Porsche Zuffenhausen and Sindelfingen.

Would the S-Bahn be better for me?

Sometimes. The S2 and S3 reach the Hauptbahnhof from the airport in 27 minutes, a VVS day ticket bought online is €6.90 for one zone or €8.90 for two, and the Deutschlandticket costs €63 a month. Alone with a carry-on and staying near the station, take the train. A chauffeur makes more sense with luggage, a group, children, a late arrival or a destination away from the rail lines.

Do your chauffeurs speak English?

Ask for it. Write in the booking notes that you would like an English-speaking chauffeur, and the operator confirms whether one is assigned before your journey. Your booking details and the pre-arrival message come to you from RYDES in English either way.

Can you drive me to Zurich or Lake Constance?

Yes, each as one fixed fare. Zurich is about 218 km from Schlossplatz, 2 hours 40 to 3 hours 30 with the border, and the Swiss vignette is inside the price. Konstanz is about 177 km. Bring a passport or national identity card for Switzerland. See Stuttgart to Zurich and Stuttgart to Konstanz.

How much free waiting do I get at STR?

Sixty minutes from the actual landing time, tracked against the aircraft rather than the timetable. Every other pickup includes 15 minutes. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before it starts.

When should I book for a fair or the Christmas market?

As early as you can, and at least 3 hours before pickup. RYDES takes reservations up to a year ahead. The Stuttgarter Weihnachtsmarkt runs 25 November to 23 December 2026, and the CMT fair is at the Messe from 16 to 24 January 2027. Note that clocks go back to Central European Time on 25 October 2026, which matters for an early flight that week. Teams on a fair rota should look at corporate accounts.

What if my flight is delayed or diverted?

Give us the flight number and we track it. A delay moves the pickup automatically at no cost, with free waiting starting at the real landing time. If the aircraft diverts to another airport, dispatch re-briefs the chauffeur, and a longer journey is confirmed with you first. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
