How Ottawa gets used.

A government town with tech campuses in Kanata, ski country a couple of hours north and a province line down the middle of the river. The booking shape follows the day.

What is an Ottawa chauffeur service?

An Ottawa chauffeur service is private, pre-booked transport at a price fixed in advance, run by a limousine service licensed by the City of Ottawa under Vehicle-for-Hire By-law No. 2016-272 and holding the transportation licence that Ottawa International Airport issues for pre-arranged pickups at YOW. It is reserved ahead rather than flagged down, and the vehicle class, the chauffeur and the total are agreed before the trip, whether that is a YOW airport transfer, an hourly car service around Parliament Hill or a black car to an embassy reception.

In practice the value is predictability. An app fare rises when a Senators game empties onto the 417 or when Winterlude crowds fill the core, and a metered taxi keeps counting while you sit on the Portage Bridge. A reserved Ottawa car service booking holds its price through both. The quote already contains the 13 percent HST and the per-pickup fee the airport charges every commercial vehicle, and Ottawa has no toll roads to add. For the full comparison, see Ottawa taxi alternative.

The same reservation reaches across the region: YOW to Kanata for the tech campuses, YOW to Gatineau for federal offices on the Québec side, Orléans in the east, and a car service to Montréal when the next meeting is two and a half hours down the 417. Organisations moving staff and visiting officials through the capital every week can put it on a corporate travel account with central billing and traveller profiles.

The airports that serve Ottawa.

One international airport close to the core, a general aviation field across the river in Québec, and Montréal-Trudeau when the ticket justifies the drive.

Times are door to door from the pickup point in a direct private vehicle. Peak means a weekday between roughly 07:00 and 09:30 or 15:30 to 18:30, which is when the 417 Queensway and the four bridges to Gatineau slow down. Senators home games at the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Winterlude weekends and Canada Day sit outside both columns and should be planned on their own terms.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

YOW is a single terminal with a clearly marked pre-arranged pickup, which makes arrivals simpler than at most airports of its size. The Gatineau field and Montréal-Trudeau each need a word of their own.

Ottawa International, YOW.

YOW handled 4.9 million passengers in 2025 from one terminal building. Pre-arranged limousines and private car services collect at Pillars 12–13 on Level 1, on the kerb nearest the terminal doors. Rideshare cars use the same pillar numbers but on the far kerb, so if you see app drivers across the lane, you are in the right place and simply on the wrong side of it. Taxis load outside the centre door, and departures drop-off is upstairs on Level 3.

Every commercial pickup at YOW carries a fee the airport sets by vehicle size, from C$15.20 for a sedan up to C$69.67 for a coach, HST included. It sits inside a RYDES quote rather than on top of it. YOW is also using remote stands, with buses to the terminal, as interim capacity, which can add a few minutes between landing and the doors; free waiting starts at touchdown, so that is covered. Drive timings for the core are on YOW to Parliament Hill.

  • Pillars 12–13, the free defaultYour chauffeur waits at the inner kerb on Level 1, the one closest to the terminal, and the details arrive by message before you land.

Gatineau-Ottawa Executive, YND.

Gatineau-Ottawa Executive sits on the Québec side of the river, about 24 km from Parliament Hill. It is an airport of entry for general aviation aircraft carrying up to 15 passengers, which makes it a practical arrival for private and corporate flights heading to Gatineau or the east end of Ottawa. Propair also flies scheduled services from here to Montréal-Trudeau and Rouyn-Noranda.

Because Gatineau is in Québec, a pickup at YND is a Québec trip under the Act respecting remunerated passenger transportation by automobile, and it is carried out by an operator authorised under Québec rules rather than by the Ottawa-licensed operator. The price works the same way and includes the Québec taxes, GST at 5 percent and QST at 9.975 percent. Your chauffeur confirms the exact door in the message sent before you land.

Montréal-Trudeau.

Some routes simply are not flown from YOW, and some fares out of Montréal are low enough to change the arithmetic. YOW to Montréal is the airport-to-airport version of the trip; a Montréal to Ottawa transfer door to door from the YUL arrivals hall is about 190 km and usually two and a half hours, with the 417 doing most of the work.

That trip starts in Québec, so it is carried out by an operator authorised under Québec rules and priced with GST and QST rather than HST. Book it at the same time as the flight. A missed connection at YUL is handled by dispatch, who move the pickup to the new arrival time without you having to call.

Terminal details above were checked against public sources in October 2026. YOW is mid-way through renovation, with the north-end check-in area recently rebuilt and the Alt Hotel connected to the terminal since April 2026, so signage may move. Your chauffeur's message is the final word on where to walk.

Taxes, bridges and the airport fee.

Ottawa has no toll roads and no congestion charge. What changes a fare here is which side of the Ottawa River the trip starts on, and the fee YOW charges each commercial vehicle that collects a passenger.

Trips that start in Ottawa carry Ontario's 13 percent HST. Trips that start in Gatineau, Hull, Aylmer, Chelsea or anywhere else on the Québec side carry GST at 5 percent plus QST at 9.975 percent, and are run by an operator authorised under Québec rules. Either way the tax is already in the price you are shown. You do not need to know which bridge the chauffeur uses or which province you end up in.

The City of Ottawa also sets minimum rates for licensed limousines: C$75 for the first 90 minutes, then C$50 an hour in C$12.50 quarter hours, before tax. Limousines may not run a taximeter, and they must be booked at least two hours ahead unless the job is an airport engagement or a filed corporate contract. Those rules exist to keep limousines distinct from taxis, and they are why any quote from a licensed operator is a fixed figure rather than a running total.

The route decision belongs to the operator. Heading to Kanata at 16:30, a chauffeur may stay off the 417 for part of the way; crossing to Gatineau at the same hour, the Macdonald-Cartier and the Champlain bridges behave very differently. Because the price was fixed at booking, the choice affects how long you sit in the car, not what you pay. More on the comparison at Ottawa taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

YOW is close to the core by the standards of any capital, so the short runs stay short. The bridges to Gatineau and the Queensway towards Kanata are where the clock starts to matter.

Typical door-to-door driving times on common Ottawa routes, for a direct private vehicle.
RouteOff-peakWeekday peakWhat moves it
YOW to Parliament Hill18 to 25 min25 to 40 minA short run north into Centretown; the core's rush hour is the only real variable
YOW to the ByWard Market20 to 25 min30 to 45 minThe same corridor, then the slow final blocks through Lowertown
YOW to Kanata25 to 35 min40 to 60 minThe 417 Queensway west, much worse on Senators game nights
YOW to Barrhaven15 to 22 min25 to 35 minSouth and west on the arterials, the quickest suburban run
YOW to Orléans28 to 35 min40 to 60 minThe 417 east, which slows badly at rush hour
YOW to downtown Gatineau20 to 28 min35 to 55 minWhichever of the Portage, Chaudière, Macdonald-Cartier or Champlain bridges is moving
YOW to Chelsea and Nordik Spa-Nature30 to 40 min45 to 65 minA bridge to Gatineau, then north into the Gatineau Hills
YOW to downtown Montréal2 h 30 to 2 h 503 h to 4 hThe 417 east, then city traffic at the Montréal end
YOW to Mont-Tremblant2 h 35 to 3 h3 h to 3 h 45Across the river and north; winter Fridays run long
YOW to Kingston2 h 20 to 2 h 402 h 40 to 3 h 15South and west along the St Lawrence corridor

Winter is the bigger variable. A heavy snowfall or freezing rain can stretch the Parliament run well past the peak column, and the bridges clog first. For a departure from YOW you cannot afford to miss between December and March, build in half the off-peak time again on top of the estimate.

Leaving the capital.

Long runs are quoted as one fixed fare for the whole journey, so an hour lost behind a jack-knifed truck on the 401 is the operator's problem, not a line on your bill.

A trip that begins in Ottawa runs under the Ottawa operator and HST. A return leg that begins in Québec, from Mont-Tremblant, Montréal, Chelsea or Quebec City, is carried out by an operator authorised under Québec rules and carries GST and QST. You book both legs the same way, and both prices are fixed when you book.

The City of Ottawa defines a limousine as a vehicle seating no more than nine passengers plus the driver, so a Group vehicle carrying more than nine falls outside that definition and is confirmed by dispatch at booking. Winter tires are compulsory in Québec from 1 December to 15 March and not in Ontario; if your trip crosses into Gatineau, Chelsea or Tremblant in that window, say so when you book. Capacity and luggage detail is on the vehicle classes page, and stretch vehicles for formal events are on Ottawa limo service.

What the Ottawa price contains.

One figure, agreed before the car is assigned. Nothing is added by a meter, a surge setting or a bill that arrives afterwards.

Sales tax
HST at 13 percent on Ontario trips, or GST and QST on trips that start in Québec, already counted in Canadian dollars.
The YOW pickup fee
The per-pickup fee the airport charges every commercial vehicle, which rises with the size of the vehicle, is part of the quote.
No tolls to add
Ottawa and the routes around it have no toll roads and no congestion charge, so there is nothing of that kind to pass on.
Tracking the flight
Share the flight number and dispatch follows the aircraft. An early arrival or a long delay moves the pickup without a fee.
An hour at the airport
Sixty minutes of free waiting from actual landing, enough for a remote-stand bus, customs and the carousel. Fifteen minutes free at any other pickup.
Pillars 12–13 at no charge
Collection at YOW's pre-arranged pickup on Level 1 is the standard service. Being met inside arrivals with your name is a paid add-on.
Cancel free up to 24 hours
Change or cancel at no cost until 24 hours before pickup. After that the booking is charged in full, because a chauffeur and vehicle are held for you.
A licensed operator
Ottawa trips are run by a limousine service licensed by the City of Ottawa, carrying the C$2 million liability cover the by-law requires and the airport's transportation licence.
Child seats, pets and service animals
Child seats are a paid add-on, supplied by us and fitted by the parent. Pets are a paid add-on. Service animals ride free, always.
Tipping, if you want to
The chauffeur's pay for the job is settled before they accept it. A gratuity is offered once when you pay, and declining is fine.
Not included
Paid parking, if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges for it. That is the only thing outside the quote.

When you should not book us.

Ottawa now has a train from the airport, and for the right traveller it is the sensible choice.

O-Train Line 4 runs 4 km from the Airport station, reached from the north end of Level 3, through Uplands to South Keys in about 7 minutes. From there Line 2 and then Line 1 take you into the core, about 57 minutes in all to Rideau, for an adult fare of C$4.10. It runs from 06:00 to midnight, though some weekend waits doubled during summer 2026. After midnight, OC Transpo Route 105 leaves Level 3 north every 30 minutes around the clock. Alone, travelling light and in no hurry, that is very hard to argue with.

A car makes sense when the arithmetic changes: two or more people, checked bags or ski gear, small children, a late landing, a meeting on the Hill in 40 minutes, a destination off the line such as Kanata, Orléans or Gatineau, or a January evening when nobody wants to change trains twice in the cold. That is most of the reason people book us, and the rest of the time we would rather you knew the alternative. The full comparison is on Ottawa taxi versus chauffeur.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Ottawa airport?

At Pillars 12–13 on Level 1 of YOW, on the kerb closest to the terminal doors, which is where pre-arranged limousines and private cars collect. Rideshare uses the same pillars on the far kerb, and taxis load at the centre door. Meet and greet inside arrivals is a paid add-on. Details are on the YOW airport transfer page.

How long is the drive from YOW to Parliament Hill?

YOW is about 14 km from Parliament Hill. Allow 18 to 25 minutes outside rush hour and 25 to 40 minutes on a weekday peak. Heavy snow or freezing rain can stretch that further. The ByWard Market is about 15 km and a few minutes longer. See YOW to Parliament Hill and YOW to the ByWard Market.

Are your Ottawa chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Trips starting in Ottawa are run by a limousine service licensed by the City of Ottawa under Vehicle-for-Hire By-law No. 2016-272, with the C$2 million liability insurance the by-law requires and vehicles under ten model years old. Airport pickups also need YOW's own transportation licence for pre-arranged service, which the operator holds. Trips starting in Gatineau or Chelsea are carried out by an operator authorised under Québec rules.

Are taxes and airport fees included in the price?

Yes. Ontario trips include the 13 percent HST; trips that start in Québec include GST at 5 percent and QST at 9.975 percent. The per-pickup fee YOW charges every commercial vehicle is included too. There are no tolls in or around Ottawa. Paid parking, if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges, is the only cost outside the quote. See Ottawa taxi alternative.

Can you pick me up in Gatineau?

Yes. Gatineau, Hull, Aylmer, Chelsea and Wakefield are covered. Because those pickups are in Québec, they fall under Québec's Act respecting remunerated passenger transportation by automobile and are carried out by an operator authorised under Québec rules, priced with GST and QST. Drop-offs in Gatineau from an Ottawa pickup run as normal. See Gatineau and YOW to Gatineau.

Should I take the O-Train from the airport instead?

Sometimes. O-Train Line 4 runs from YOW to South Keys in about 7 minutes, and with changes to Line 2 and Line 1 reaches Rideau in about 57 minutes for C$4.10, between 06:00 and midnight. OC Transpo Route 105 covers the night, every 30 minutes. Alone with light luggage and time to spare, take it. With bags, children, a group, a late arrival or a destination off the line, a car is quicker and simpler.

Do you serve Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport?

Yes. YND is in Gatineau, about 24 km from Parliament Hill, and is an airport of entry for general aviation aircraft carrying up to 15 passengers. Propair also flies scheduled services from there to Montréal-Trudeau and Rouyn-Noranda. Pickups there are Québec trips, carried out by an operator authorised under Québec rules. See Gatineau airport transfers.

Can you collect from a private jet at YOW?

Yes. Name the FBO when you book, whether Execaire at the Shell AeroCentre or Skyservice, along with the tail number or flight details, and the chauffeur is sent there rather than to the passenger terminal. Free waiting works the same way, from actual landing. See YOW airport transfers.

How much waiting time is included at YOW?

Sixty minutes from the time the aircraft actually lands, not the scheduled time, which covers a remote-stand bus, customs and baggage. At every other pickup, 15 minutes are free. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before any charge begins.

Is Wellington Street open in front of Parliament?

Wellington Street reopened to traffic in October 2025, so drop-offs in front of the parliamentary precinct are possible today. The federal government wants to acquire the street and close it, so this could change, and your chauffeur checks the current access before the day. Parliament itself sits in the West Block and the Senate of Canada Building while Centre Block is rehabilitated, with completion targeted for 2030 or 2031.

Can you drive me from Ottawa to Montréal?

Yes. Downtown Montréal is about 199 km from Parliament Hill, usually 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours, and it is quoted as one fixed fare. Montréal-Trudeau airport is about 190 km. A return trip that starts in Montréal is carried out by a Québec-authorised operator with GST and QST. See Ottawa to Montréal and YOW to Montréal.

Do you go to Mont-Tremblant and the Gatineau Hills?

Yes. Mont-Tremblant is about 164 km from Parliament Hill, usually 2 hours 20 to 2 hours 45, and Chelsea and the Gatineau Park Visitor Centre are about 16 km. Québec requires winter tires from 1 December to 15 March, so mention a winter trip at booking, and an SUV suits ski gear. See Ottawa to Mont-Tremblant and Ottawa to Chelsea.

Can I book a car by the hour in Ottawa?

Yes, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments. The chauffeur waits between stops, which suits days moving between the Hill, departments in Gatineau and lunch in the Market. Under the City by-law, licensed limousine rates cannot fall below C$75 for the first 90 minutes and C$50 an hour after that, before tax. See hourly chauffeur in Ottawa.

Do you handle government and diplomatic travel?

Yes. Delegation arrivals, embassy events and committee days are booked on the same fixed pricing, with meet and greet at YOW available as an add-on and First class or SUVs for official guests. Departments and missions moving people regularly can use a corporate account with central billing and traveller profiles.

When should I book early in Ottawa?

Book at least 3 hours ahead in all cases; reservations open up to a year out. Book well in advance for Winterlude, 29 January to 15 February 2027, the Canadian Tulip Festival in May 2027, which is its Diamond Jubilee, Canada Day on 1 July, and the weeks the House of Commons sits, which in fall 2026 run from 16 September to 16 December.

What if my flight into YOW is delayed or diverted?

Give us the flight number and the pickup follows the aircraft at no cost, with free waiting starting at the real landing time. If a flight diverts to Montréal-Trudeau or elsewhere, dispatch rebooks the chauffeur to the new airport and tells you what changes. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
