Four ways in and out of Quebec City.

A small city with a walled centre, a busy cruise port and ski hills within the hour. Each needs the car dispatched a little differently.

The wharves are about 1.5 km from the old town, so the useful runs are the long ones: ship to YQB, ship to a Charlevoix inn, or a Port of Québec cruise transfer to Montréal at the end of the voyage.

What is a Quebec City chauffeur service?

A Quebec City chauffeur service is private transport reserved in advance at an agreed price, run by a licensed chauffeur operator inside Québec's remunerated passenger transportation system, where system operators are authorised by the Commission des transports du Québec (CTQ) and every driver is qualified through the SAAQ or an authorised operator. You do not hail it and it does not come from a queue. The price, the vehicle class and the chauffeur are fixed before pickup, whether you need a YQB airport transfer, an hourly car service in Quebec City or a black car to the Parliament.

Québec's own rules work in the passenger's favour here. The law says a price agreed in advance cannot change during the trip, every trip carries a C$0.90 government fee, and every operator must be registered for QST before carrying anyone. A booked Quebec City car service folds all of that into one figure: 5 percent GST, 9.975 percent QST and the provincial fee. There are no tolls on the routes on this page and no congestion charge, so nothing is left to add at the end. The taxi alternative page compares it with the airport rank.

The same reservation reaches well past the city line: cruise transfers from the Port of Québec, runs over the river to Lévis, the drive along the Côte-de-Beaupré to Mont-Sainte-Anne, and long Quebec City to Montréal transfers when a flight out of YQB does not suit. For firms with staff at the National Assembly or Université Laval every month, corporate travel in Quebec City adds central billing and trip reporting on the same operators.

The airports that serve Quebec City.

Nearly every arrival comes through one compact terminal in Sainte-Foy. Montréal-Trudeau is the fallback when YQB has no flight that fits, at the price of a long drive.

Times run from the pickup kerb to the door, in a private car going direct. Peak here means roughly 07:00 to 09:00 and 15:30 to 18:00 on weekdays, when traffic between Sainte-Foy and the old town is at its slowest. Heavy snow, Carnaval weekends and evenings when the Festival d'été fills the Plains of Abraham fall outside both columns, so give those their own margin.

Where you meet your chauffeur.

Jean Lesage is small enough that nobody gets lost in it, and the cruise wharves are a short drive below the old town. The tricky part is often the last 200 metres inside the walls.

Jean Lesage, YQB.

YQB has a single terminal on two levels. Level 1 holds arrivals, the baggage belts, customs and the car-rental desks. Level 2 is security and the departure gates. Off an international or US flight you clear customs, collect bags and walk out without changing floor.

The airport does not publish a dedicated door for pre-arranged cars, so we will not guess one. Your chauffeur confirms the exact exit in the message sent before you land, and is waiting there when you walk out. The taxi counter is also on Level 1, with taxis lined up outside; that is not where your car is. Drive times onward are on YQB to Old Québec and YQB to the Château Frontenac.

  • Standard pickup, the free defaultYour chauffeur names the door in the pre-arrival message and meets you outside it.

Port of Québec.

Ships berth at the Ross-Gaudreault Terminal on Wharves 21 and 22, at Cruise Terminal 30 on Wharf 30, and on some calls at Wharf 93 or Wharf 81. The main terminals are about 1.5 km from Old Québec, a few minutes by car. Your line tells you the berth; send it with the booking and the chauffeur meets you at that terminal's pickup area, confirmed in the message before you disembark.

Since 2025 the port runs cruises in all four seasons, and it handled about 140,000 passengers on 103 calls that year. The busiest stretch is the fall foliage season: at least 19 calls fall between 14 October and 1 November 2026, finishing with Seabourn Ovation. On a busy port day, waiting for whatever car is free is a poor plan with a flight or a train to catch, which is the case for booking a cruise transfer ahead.

Inside the walls.

Old Québec is steep, narrow and partly pedestrian. Rue Saint-Jean, Rue Saint-Paul, Rue du Parvis and 3e Avenue close to cars mainly at weekends, and the Upper Town's slopes suit a sedan or SUV far better than anything long. For hotels inside the walls, the chauffeur names the nearest point a car can reach.

For buses the city is stricter. From 30 March to 30 November 2026, roadwork on Rue De Buade bars buses from Rue Saint-Louis through Porte Saint-Louis, apart from holders of a free per-vehicle permit for hotels reachable only that way, cruise passengers and schools. Inside the walls, buses may stop only in marked zones for up to 10 minutes, cannot park, and are fined for idling. These rules are written for buses; we found no equivalent for cars or SUVs. They matter for the Group minibus, and dispatch plans those stops in advance.

Airport and port details were checked against public sources in October 2026. Wharf assignments change between calls and the YQB pickup door is set on the day, so the message your chauffeur sends before you arrive is the final word on where to go.

Taxes, the trip fee and the tolls you will not pay.

Quebec City has no toll roads on these routes and no congestion charge. What sits on a fare here is two sales taxes and a small provincial fee, and the law fixes how they reach you.

Québec charges 5 percent GST and 9.975 percent QST on remunerated passenger transport, and every operator has to be registered for QST before its first paid trip. On top of that, the province collects a C$0.90 government fee on every trip. A RYDES quote shows one total that already contains all three. The province's toll bridges are around Montréal, not on any route on this page, and Quebec City has no congestion or cordon charge.

The airport side differs by mode. Taxis pay YQB an access fee each time they enter the airport and offer flat fares into the city from the rank; the amounts change and are not quoted here. With a booked car, any airport charge is part of the price you accepted, and Québec law stops that agreed price from changing once the trip has started. Paid parking, when you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges for it, is the one cost outside the quote.

How charges reach the passenger in Quebec City, by way of travelling. Airport taxi flat fares are set by the airport and its taxi operators.

The real variable in Quebec City is not a toll, it is the season. Snow on the Côte-de-Beaupré, a Carnaval Saturday or two ships in port can each add more time than any rush hour. The full comparison with the taxi rank is on Quebec City taxi versus chauffeur.

How long the drives take.

Distances here are short and the roads are rarely jammed for long. What stretches a trip is snow, the climb into the Upper Town and the ferry on the way to Tadoussac.

Between December and mid-March, plan on snow. A storm can turn a 25-minute airport run into an hour, and the Charlevoix roads slow down well before the city does. Every car carries winter tires by law in that period, but for an early flight or a cruise embarkation you cannot miss, allow at least half the off-peak time again on top.

Beyond the city.

Long runs are quoted as a single fare to the door, not by the hour. A wait for the Saguenay ferry or a snowy afternoon in Charlevoix does not change the total.

Tadoussac sits across the mouth of the Saguenay, so the route depends on a ferry crossing whose wait we cannot control. The fare is fixed regardless, but plan the day with slack.

Winter tires are compulsory on every vehicle in Québec from 1 December to 15 March, so any class is legal for a winter trip; an SUV is still the better choice for skis and for the climb into the Upper Town after a snowfall. What a Quebec City quote covers.

One figure in Canadian dollars, agreed before pickup and protected by provincial law from changing on the way.

GST and QST
The 5 percent GST and 9.975 percent QST are inside the quoted price. You will not see them added at the end.
The C$0.90 trip fee
Québec's government fee, charged on every remunerated trip in the province, is already counted in the total.
Airport charges
Anything the airport or port charges for the pickup is part of the quote. There are no road tolls on these routes to add.
Tipping is optional
The chauffeur accepted this trip at an agreed rate, so their pay does not hinge on a tip. You are offered one once, at payment, and can say no.
Flights followed live
With a flight number, the pickup follows the aircraft. A late or early arrival shifts the car automatically, at no charge.
An hour free at YQB
Sixty minutes of waiting from actual touchdown, which covers customs and the baggage belt. Other pickups get 15 free minutes, and any extra is billed in 15-minute steps after you are told.
Standard pickup at no cost
The chauffeur meets you at the door named in the pre-arrival message. Meet and greet inside the terminal costs extra.
Cancel free up to 24 hours
Cancel or change at no charge until 24 hours before pickup. After that the full fare applies, as the car and chauffeur are reserved.
Licensed under Québec law
Operators work within a CTQ-authorised system, drivers are qualified through the SAAQ or an authorised operator, and each car carries the government decal on the rear window.
Child seats and pets
Child seats are a paid add-on, supplied and fitted by the parent. Pets are a paid add-on. Service animals ride free, always.
Not included
Paid parking, if you ask the car to wait at a stop that charges for it. Nothing else is billed on top.

When you should not book us.

Quebec City is compact, and for some trips a chauffeur is more car than you need.

Travelling light and staying near Place Jacques-Cartier or in the old town, RTC route 80 runs from the airport to Place Jacques-Cartier from about 06:00 to about 23:30, every 30 minutes on weekdays and less often in the evening and at weekends. For a room near Université Laval, RTC route 76 covers that side. Inside the walls, much of Old Québec is easier on foot, especially at weekends when the pedestrian streets close.

Where a booked car is worth it: an arrival after the last bus, a winter evening with cases and children, a group of four or more, a cruise embarkation with a fixed boarding time, skis heading to Mont-Sainte-Anne or Le Massif, anywhere on the South Shore or in Charlevoix, or a day with several stops. That is most of why people book, but we would rather you took route 80 when it fits. The detailed comparison is on Quebec City taxi versus chauffeur.

Which airport should I fly into for Quebec City?

Québec City Jean Lesage International (YQB) in almost every case. It is about 16 km west of downtown and about 17 km from Old Québec, 20 to 30 minutes off-peak. Montréal-Trudeau (YUL) is about 266 km away, around 3 h 20 to 3 h 40 by road, and only makes sense for a connection YQB does not have or a cancelled flight. See YQB airport transfers and Quebec City to Montréal.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at YQB?

YQB is a single terminal with arrivals, baggage and customs all on Level 1. The airport does not publish a fixed door for pre-arranged cars, so your chauffeur confirms the exact exit in the message sent before you land and waits there. The taxi counter on Level 1 is for taxis, not booked cars. Meet and greet inside on Level 1 is a paid add-on. Detail is on YQB airport transfer.

How long does it take from YQB to Old Québec?

Usually 20 to 30 minutes off-peak and 30 to 40 minutes at weekday rush hour, for a distance of about 17 km. The Château Frontenac takes about the same. Heavy snow can double it. See YQB to Old Québec and YQB to the Château Frontenac.

Are taxes and fees included in a Quebec City price?

Yes. The 5 percent GST, the 9.975 percent QST and the C$0.90 government fee Québec charges on every trip are inside the quoted price, along with any airport or port charge. There are no tolls on these routes. Only paid parking at a stop where you ask the car to wait sits outside the quote. See Quebec City taxi versus chauffeur.

Are there tolls or a congestion charge in Quebec City?

No. Quebec City has no congestion or cordon charge, and none of the routes on this page use a toll road. Québec's toll bridges are near Montréal. Winter tires, mandatory from 1 December to 15 March, are the one road rule that affects every vehicle.

Are your Quebec City chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Québec regulates paid passenger transport under the Act respecting remunerated passenger transportation by automobile (CQLR c. T-11.2). System operators are authorised by the Commission des transports du Québec, drivers qualify through the SAAQ or an authorised operator with a Class 5 licence held for at least a year, training and a criminal record check, and each vehicle shows a government decal on the rear window. Operators must be registered for QST before their first trip.

Can you pick me up from a cruise ship in Quebec City?

Yes. Ships berth at the Ross-Gaudreault Terminal (Wharves 21 and 22), Cruise Terminal 30 (Wharf 30), and sometimes Wharf 93 or Wharf 81. Send your ship and sailing date when booking and the chauffeur confirms the meeting point before you disembark. The port is about 1.5 km from Old Québec, so most bookings are to YQB, Charlevoix or Montréal. See Quebec City cruise transfers.

Can a car drive into Old Québec?

Yes, cars and SUVs can reach most hotels inside the walls, though Rue Saint-Jean, Rue Saint-Paul, Rue du Parvis and 3e Avenue close to cars mainly at weekends. The stricter rules apply to buses: from 30 March to 30 November 2026 buses are barred from Rue Saint-Louis except by permit, may stop inside the walls only in marked zones for up to 10 minutes, and cannot park there. That affects the Group minibus. See Old Québec.

Should I take the RTC bus from the airport instead?

If you are alone, travelling light and staying near Place Jacques-Cartier, it may suit you. RTC route 80 runs from YQB to Place Jacques-Cartier from about 06:00 to 23:30, every 30 minutes, less often evenings and weekends. Route 76 serves Université Laval. A chauffeur is the better choice with luggage, children, a group, a late arrival or a destination outside the city.

Do I need a special vehicle for winter in Quebec City?

Every vehicle in Québec must have winter tires from 1 December to 15 March, so every car we send in that period has them. For skis, several large cases or Charlevoix after snowfall, an SUV gives more room and copes better with the steep Upper Town.

Can you drive me to Mont-Sainte-Anne, Le Massif or Stoneham?

Yes, at one fixed fare. From Old Québec, Stoneham is about 31 km (30 to 45 minutes), Mont-Sainte-Anne about 42 km (40 to 55 minutes), and Le Massif about 91 km from YQB (about 1 h 25 to 1 h 45 off-peak). Skis travel in the vehicle class you book, usually an SUV or Van. See Quebec City ski transfers, YQB to Mont-Sainte-Anne and YQB to Le Massif.

Do you go to Baie-Saint-Paul and Tadoussac?

Yes. Baie-Saint-Paul is about 95 km from Old Québec, usually 1 h 25 to 1 h 50. Tadoussac is about 215 km, around 3 h 20 to 3 h 50 plus the Saguenay ferry, whose waiting time varies. Both are quoted as one fixed fare to the address you give. See Quebec City to Baie-Saint-Paul and Quebec City to Tadoussac.

How long is the drive from Quebec City to Montréal?

About 252 km from Old Québec, usually 3 h 25 to 4 h 15 door to door, with Montréal's rush hour the main variable. It is a fixed fare, popular at the end of a cruise or when a YQB flight is cancelled. Ottawa is about 445 km, 5 h 45 to 6 h 30. See Quebec City to Montréal and Quebec City to Ottawa.

How much free waiting time do I get at YQB?

Sixty minutes from the moment your aircraft actually lands, which leaves time for customs and baggage on Level 1. Other pickups, including the cruise wharves and hotels, include 15 minutes. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before it begins.

Can I hire a car and chauffeur by the hour in Quebec City?

Yes, with a two-hour minimum, extended in 30-minute steps. The chauffeur waits between stops, which suits a day of meetings, a wedding or a tour along the Côte-de-Beaupré. See hourly chauffeur hire.

When should I book ahead in Quebec City?

Book at least 3 hours before pickup; reservations open up to a year ahead. Book well ahead for Carnaval de Québec (5 to 14 February 2027), the Festival d'été in July, the Hôtel de Glace season at Valcartier from early January to late March, ski weekends and fall cruise days, when at least 19 ships call between 14 October and 1 November 2026. Regular travellers should look at corporate accounts.

What happens if my flight to YQB is delayed or diverted?

Give us the flight number and we follow the aircraft. A delay moves the pickup automatically at no cost, and the free hour starts at actual landing. If the flight diverts to another airport, dispatch re-plans the trip with you, including the drive back to Quebec City if you want it. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
