Getting around Vancouver.

One fixed price and one licensed chauffeur, whether the day is a flight, a ship, a mountain or a run of meetings.

What is a Vancouver chauffeur service?

A Vancouver chauffeur service is private ground transport booked ahead at an agreed fixed price and carried out by an operator licensed by the BC Passenger Transportation Board, holding a Passenger Transportation Licence with Special Authorization for Passenger Directed Vehicles, the limousine sector in British Columbia. It is not a taxi you flag down and not an on-demand app ride. The car class, the chauffeur and the total are settled in advance, whether you need a YVR airport transfer, an hourly car service in Vancouver or a black car to a Coal Harbour meeting.

Where it earns its keep is on the awkward days. App pricing climbs when a Canucks game lets out or a cruise ship empties at Canada Place, and the taxi line on Arrivals Level 2 gives you the next car whatever you are carrying. A reserved Vancouver car service booking avoids both. You pay the figure you accepted, with 5 percent GST and applicable taxes counted, and since the region has charged no bridge tolls since 2017, there is no road charge to add. For a straight comparison, see the taxi alternative in Vancouver.

One reservation reaches the whole region. Cruise transfers between YVR and the pier, Whistler transfers up Highway 99, rides to Richmond, Burnaby and North Vancouver, and fixed-fare Vancouver to Seattle or Victoria city-to-city routes. Companies moving staff through the city every week can put it on corporate travel in Vancouver, with central billing on the same licensed fleet.

Times are door to door from the pickup point in a direct private vehicle, not a shared shuttle. Peak here means roughly 06:00 to 09:30 and 15:00 to 19:00 on weekdays, which is also when the Lions Gate Bridge runs its counterflow lanes. Canucks home nights at Rogers Arena sit outside both columns. Bellingham needs a passport, an enhanced driver's licence or NEXUS for every traveller, and cross-border runs are confirmed by dispatch.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

YVR separates taxis and app rides from pre-arranged cars, and its rules for those cars are stricter than most. The South Terminal and the seaplane base each work their own way.

Vancouver International.

YVR is one terminal building on Sea Island with three kinds of gate: domestic flights on piers A to C, international flights on pier D, and flights to the United States on pier E, where US preclearance is done before you board. Taxis and Uber or Lyft collect on Arrivals Level 2. Pre-arranged commercial vehicles are handled separately under the airport's Commercial Vehicle Procedures.

On the domestic side, the pre-arranged zones sit at the glass entrance on Domestic Level 1; follow the Car Rental signs down. On the international side they are reached through a tunnel marked Authorized Vehicles Only, with further areas off Grant McConachie Way. The airport does not publish which of these a limousine is assigned on a given day, so your chauffeur confirms the exact door in the message that reaches you before you land.

The rules behind that are worth knowing. The operator must hold a YVR Commercial Vehicle Operator Permit, register every trip in the airport's vendor portal at least 60 minutes before pickup, and keep a car at the kerb for no more than 30 minutes. That cap is why your chauffeur waits back until you have your bags rather than parking at the door, and it is why name signs at YVR are always held by hand. Drive times into the city are on YVR to downtown Vancouver.

  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onChauffeur inside arrivals with your name on a handheld sign, useful after a long international flight on pier D.
  • Flying to the US from pier EPreclearance happens at YVR before departure, so leave room for it when you choose your pickup time.

YVR South Terminal.

The South Terminal at 4440 Cowley Crescent is a separate, smaller building that handles regional and coastal flights. Travellers connecting to the main terminal can take the free shuttle, which runs every 30 minutes. If your trip starts or ends at South Terminal, book the car to that address directly and the shuttle drops out of the plan.

We have not confirmed a designated pre-arranged spot there, so your chauffeur confirms the exact door in the message sent before you land.

Harbour Flight Centre.

Harbour Air's seaplanes leave from the Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre at 1055 Canada Place, in Coal Harbour. The flight to Victoria Harbour takes about 35 minutes, harbour to harbour, and your chauffeur collects you at the Flight Centre address.

Seaplanes fly only in daylight and good visibility. When the weather closes in, the road and ferry route via Tsawwassen is the fallback, at about 3 to 3.5 hours door to door; dispatch can switch a booking to Vancouver to Victoria on the same day if a flight is grounded.

Terminal and procedure facts above were checked against public sources in October 2026. Pier assignments and kerb arrangements can change, so confirm your pier from your boarding pass and follow your chauffeur's message for the exact door.

Taxes, airport fees and the missing tolls.

Metro Vancouver is one of the few big North American regions with no road tolls at all. What shapes a fare here is tax, the airport's own arrangements, and above all time.

The Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges stopped charging tolls on 1 September 2017. Since then no bridge, tunnel or highway in the region bills a car to cross, and Vancouver has no congestion charge. The real cost here is queueing, at the Lions Gate and Ironworkers bridges, the George Massey Tunnel and downtown on a cruise morning, and with a fixed fare that delay is the operator's problem.

Rides in British Columbia carry 5 percent GST, and a RYDES price includes it together with any other applicable taxes. At YVR, the operator holds the airport's permit and follows its pre-arranged vehicle rules, and any airport fee that comes with that is already counted. Nothing appears as an extra line afterwards. The one cost outside the quote is paid parking, if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges for it.

For one traveller with a carry-on heading downtown, the C$46 flat taxi fare is fair value and we would not argue otherwise. The case for a chauffeur grows with luggage, extra passengers, a destination outside the downtown zone such as North Vancouver or Surrey, or a pickup that has to be certain. The full comparison is on Vancouver taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Distances in Vancouver are short. Water is the problem: almost every trip crosses a bridge or a tunnel, and each one has its own rush hour.

Typical door-to-door driving times on common Vancouver routes, for a direct private vehicle.
RouteOff-peakWeekday peakWhat moves it

YVR to Whistler2 h to 2 h 302 h 30 to 3 h 15Through the city first, then the Sea-to-Sky; winter weather adds more

The Lions Gate Bridge runs counterflow lanes: about 06:00 to 09:30 two lanes point south into downtown, and from about 15:00 to 19:00 two lanes mostly point north. Travelling against that flow at those hours leaves you on one lane. The George Massey Tunnel stays the Highway 99 bottleneck for years yet, with its replacement re-tendered in June 2026 and due in September 2031, so allow the upper figure for any Tsawwassen sailing you cannot miss.

Leaving town.

Intercity runs carry one fixed fare for the whole distance, not an hourly meter, so a slow Sea-to-Sky or a long border queue does not change what you pay.

Cross-border trips need an operator authorised to carry passengers in both countries, so Seattle and Bellingham are confirmed by dispatch at booking rather than sold automatically. The 2026 Alaska cruise season at Canada Place is over; the next begins in 2027, and Vancouver cruise transfers can be booked for it now. Victoria involves a ferry sailing, so dispatch confirms the sailing and how the crossing is handled before the booking is final.

What the Vancouver price contains.

The figure you accept is the figure on the receipt. No surge, no meter, nothing added once you are out of the car.

GST and applicable taxes
Five percent GST and any other applicable taxes are counted in the quoted figure, in Canadian dollars. The region has no road tolls to add.
Airport fees
Whatever YVR requires of a pre-arranged car is the operator's cost and is already counted, at the main terminal and the South Terminal alike.
Gratuity at your discretion
The chauffeur accepted the job at an agreed rate, so a tip is a genuine extra rather than part of their pay. You are offered the option once, at payment, and declining is fine.
Flight tracking
Share the flight number and we follow the aircraft. If it lands early or late, your pickup moves with it at no charge.
An hour at the airport
Sixty minutes of free waiting from the actual touchdown, enough for customs on an international arrival. Elsewhere the first 15 minutes are free, then waiting is billed in 15-minute steps, and you hear about it before it starts.
Pre-arranged pickup
Collection from YVR's pre-arranged zone at no extra charge. A chauffeur waiting inside arrivals with a handheld name sign is a paid add-on.
Free cancellation
Change or cancel at no cost until 24 hours before pickup. After that the fare is charged in full, since a chauffeur and vehicle have been held for you.
A licensed local operator
Each Vancouver booking runs through an operator licensed by the BC Passenger Transportation Board, with its YVR permit and liability insurance checked before it can take work.
Child seats and pets
Child seats come on request as a paid add-on; the parent fits them. Pets are a paid add-on too, while service animals ride free.
What is not included
Paid parking, when you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges. Nothing else sits outside the quote.

When you should not book us.

The Canada Line runs straight from YVR to downtown, and for some travellers it is simply the better choice.

If you are on your own with a carry-on and staying near a downtown Canada Line station, take the train. It reaches Waterfront in about 27 minutes, runs every 6 minutes at peak and every 15 late at night, and costs C$11.60 on a weekday before 18:30 or C$10.00 at other times with a contactless card, including the C$6.50 YVR AddFare. The AddFare applies only when leaving the airport. By road, the C$46 flat taxi fare is also reasonable for one person.

A chauffeur makes sense in other conditions: luggage you would rather not drag through a station, three or more people, small children, a late arrival once trains have thinned out, somewhere the line does not go, such as the North Shore, Burnaby or Surrey, a cruise transfer with a week of bags, or anything heading for Whistler. That covers most of the reasons people book us, not all journeys, and we prefer to say it plainly. Costs and times side by side are on Vancouver taxi versus chauffeur.

Which airport should I use for Vancouver?

For almost every trip, YVR. Vancouver International on Sea Island in Richmond is about 12 km from downtown and handles domestic, international and US flights. The YVR South Terminal serves regional and coastal flights. Abbotsford, about 60 to 70 km east, suits low-cost domestic fares, and Bellingham in Washington, about 66 km plus the border, suits some US fares. See YVR airport transfers and YVR to downtown Vancouver.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at YVR?

At a pre-arranged commercial vehicle zone, not on Arrivals Level 2 where taxis and app rides collect. Domestic zones are at the glass entrance on Domestic Level 1, following the Car Rental signs; international zones are through an Authorized Vehicles Only tunnel and off Grant McConachie Way. Your chauffeur confirms the exact door in the message sent before you land. Meet and greet inside arrivals is a paid add-on. Detail is on the YVR airport transfer page.

What do the YVR piers mean for my pickup?

YVR uses piers A to C for domestic flights, pier D for international flights and pier E for flights to the United States. Arriving passengers come out on the domestic or international side, which decides which pre-arranged zone your chauffeur uses. Flying to the US, you clear US preclearance at YVR before boarding, so allow for it when choosing your pickup time.

What is the YVR South Terminal?

A separate building at 4440 Cowley Crescent in Richmond for regional and coastal flights. A free shuttle runs between it and the main terminal every 30 minutes. If your flight uses the South Terminal, book the car to that address and your chauffeur collects you there; the exact spot is confirmed in the pre-arrival message.

Are there toll bridges in Vancouver?

No. The Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges stopped charging tolls on 1 September 2017, and the region has no other road tolls and no congestion charge. Delays at the bridges and the George Massey Tunnel affect timing, not price, because a RYDES fare is fixed at booking.

Are taxes and airport fees included in the price?

Yes. The quoted price in Canadian dollars includes 5 percent GST, any other applicable taxes and any airport fee charged to the operator at YVR. Gratuity is optional and offered once at payment, and paid parking at a stop you ask the car to wait at is the only cost outside the quote. Compare it on Vancouver taxi versus chauffeur.

Are your Vancouver chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Every Vancouver booking is carried out by an operator licensed by the BC Passenger Transportation Board under a Passenger Transportation Licence with Special Authorization for Passenger Directed Vehicles, the limousine sector. For YVR work the operator also needs the airport's Commercial Vehicle Operator Permit and liability insurance, all checked before the operator can accept bookings.

How long is the drive from YVR to downtown Vancouver?

About 20 to 30 minutes off-peak for the roughly 12 km, and 40 to 60 minutes at weekday rush hour, when the time can double. YVR to Canada Place is 20 to 25 minutes off-peak and 40 to 50 at peak. See YVR to downtown Vancouver and YVR to Canada Place.

Should I take the Canada Line instead?

If you are alone with light luggage and staying near a downtown station, often yes. The Canada Line reaches Waterfront in about 27 minutes, every 6 minutes at peak and every 15 late at night. An adult contactless fare from the airport, including the C$6.50 YVR AddFare, is C$11.60 on weekdays before 18:30 and C$10.00 at other times. A chauffeur is the better choice with luggage, three or more people, children, or a destination off the line.

How much free waiting do I get at YVR?

Sixty minutes from the actual landing time, tracked against the aircraft rather than the timetable, which allows for customs and baggage. Other pickups include 15 minutes free. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before it begins.

Can you drive me from Vancouver or YVR to Whistler?

Yes. Whistler is 120 km from downtown on the Sea-to-Sky Highway 99, about 1 h 40 to 2 h, and 2 to 2.5 hours from YVR. From 1 October, vehicles on that highway need winter tires marked M+S or with the mountain snowflake and at least 3.5 mm of tread, or chains, and every car we send meets the rule. Whistler Blackcomb opens on 20 November 2026. See Whistler transfers and YVR to Whistler.

Can you take me to Seattle?

Often, but not automatically. Seattle is about 230 km, 2.5 to 3 hours plus the border at Peace Arch or the Pacific Highway crossing. The trip needs an operator authorised in both countries, so dispatch confirms it at booking. Every passenger needs a passport, and NEXUS speeds the crossing. See Vancouver to Seattle.

What is the best way to get to Victoria?

Two options. Harbour Air seaplanes from the Harbour Flight Centre in Coal Harbour reach Victoria Harbour in about 35 minutes, in daylight and good visibility only. By road, the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay ferry crossing takes about 1 hour 35 minutes and the trip is about 3 to 3.5 hours door to door; dispatch confirms the sailing. See Vancouver to Victoria and YVR to Tsawwassen ferry.

Do you offer cruise transfers at Canada Place?

Yes, between Canada Place and YVR, downtown hotels, Whistler or Seattle. The 2026 season ran from 26 February to 13 October with a record 358 ship calls, and it has now finished. The next season begins in 2027 and bookings are open up to a year ahead. YVR to Canada Place takes 20 to 25 minutes off-peak. See Vancouver cruise transfers.

Can I book a car by the hour in Vancouver?

Yes. Hourly hire has a two-hour minimum and runs in 30-minute increments, and the chauffeur waits between stops while you are inside. It suits roadshows, property viewings across Burnaby and the North Shore, and weddings. See hourly chauffeur in Vancouver.

How far in advance should I book in Vancouver?

At least 3 hours before pickup, so the operator can register the trip with YVR and brief a chauffeur; reservations open up to a year ahead. Book early for cruise season from late February to mid October, for the ski season from Whistler's opening on 20 November, and for Canucks nights at Rogers Arena. Celebration of Light is targeted to return in 2027. Regular travellers should see corporate travel in Vancouver.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Nothing you need to do. With the flight number on the booking, the pickup follows the aircraft, a delay costs nothing, and free waiting starts at the real landing time. If a flight lands at the South Terminal or a seaplane is grounded, dispatch re-briefs the chauffeur. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
