However Dubrovnik moves.

A small city wedged between mountains and sea, with one coast road in and out. The booking shape changes with the trip; the fixed price does not.

What is a Dubrovnik chauffeur service?

A Dubrovnik chauffeur service is private ground transport booked in advance at a fixed euro price, with the journey carried out by an operator licensed for passenger transport in Croatia under the country's Road Transport Act. RYDES takes the booking; a local licensed operator supplies the vehicle and the chauffeur. Nothing is hailed or metered. Whether it is a Dubrovnik airport transfer, an hourly car service through Konavle or a black car to a hotel in Lapad, the class of car and the price are agreed before the day.

That matters most in July and August. The city has one main approach road from the airport, a walled centre that cars cannot enter, and cruise passengers arriving at Gruž on the same mornings as the busiest flights. A reserved Dubrovnik car service absorbs all of that into a single quoted number, with VAT and any tolls on the route already inside it. As a taxi alternative, the point is less about the price than knowing who is collecting you, in what, and for how much.

The same reservation reaches well past the walls. Cavtat sits five minutes from the runway. Ston, Orebić and the Pelješac peninsula run north. Kotor and Mostar cross the EU's external border, and the Dubrovnik to Split run now stays inside Croatia via the Pelješac Bridge. For incentive groups, villa weddings and private transfers with corporate travel billing, every leg goes on one account.

One airport, four ways out of it.

Dubrovnik Airport at Čilipi is the only commercial airport on this stretch of coast, about 20 km south-east of the walls. Where you are going from it decides the drive more than anything else.

Dubrovnik Airport handled 3,090,245 passengers in 2025, and the airport itself puts the drive into town at 30 to 35 minutes, rising to an hour in summer. The peak column here means a July or August afternoon, not a commuter rush: the city's traffic follows the season and the cruise timetable more than the working day. Border queues on the Kotor run are not included in either column, and they can be long in summer.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

Three places matter in Dubrovnik: the arrivals hall at Čilipi, the cruise berths at Gruž, and the gates of the Old Town, where every car stops and everyone walks.

Dubrovnik Airport.

Dubrovnik Airport is compact, and the taxi rank sits directly in front of Terminal B arrivals. Your chauffeur does not use the rank. The exact meeting point is named in the message you receive before landing, so you walk out knowing where to go rather than scanning a crowd of signs.

On a midsummer Saturday several flights can land within the same half hour. That is where 60 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time earns its keep: passport control, bags, and the walk out are all covered before any waiting is charged. Drive timing to the walls is on DBV to the Old Town.

The Old Town and its gates.

No car enters the walls. The Old Town is pedestrian inside, and the streets around it form a controlled traffic zone covering the area from the lights by the public garage, Ilijina glavica and Zagrebačka Street through to Viktorija and from Pile to Boninovo. Only approved vehicles may enter: pre-booked minibuses using the drop-off bays at Pile and Ploče, cars with app-booked parking, and guests of hotels or registered garages inside the zone.

The rules apply through the main season, which local sources give as 1 March to 30 November, though another lists 1 April to 31 October for 2026. For a chauffeur booking, dispatch arranges zone access for your address in advance where it is needed. In practice the car stops at the nearest permitted point, usually by Pile Gate or Ploče Gate, and the chauffeur can help with bags to the gate. From there, it is stone steps and polished limestone.

Gruž cruise port.

Large ships berth at Gruž, a short drive north-west of the walls. Dubrovnik logged 557 cruise visits in 2025, more than any other port in Croatia, and the city has spent years trying to pace them.

Under the Respect the City programme, running since 2017, the daily aim is no more than two ships and about 4,000 cruise visitors. The port authority's 2026 berthing policy sets the same ceiling for cruise visitors in the city at any one time. That makes the port calmer than it used to be, but embarkation mornings still put coaches, taxis and private cars into one access road. Your chauffeur's message names the waiting point for your berth.

Pickup details above were checked against public sources in October 2026. Terminal use and traffic-zone rules change from season to season, so treat your chauffeur's pre-arrival message as the final word on where to walk.

Euros, tolls and a walled city.

Croatia has used the euro since 2023, so there is no conversion on a Dubrovnik booking. What changes the cost of getting around here is the season, the border, and how close any vehicle can get to your door.

A RYDES quote is the total in euros. VAT is included in the price, and so is any road toll the route uses: the Pelješac Bridge itself is toll-free, and any motorway toll further north on the Split run is already counted. Nothing is added for luggage, a late landing or a July Saturday. The one thing outside the price is paid parking, if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges for it.

The licensing picture is moving. Croatia's parliament passed amendments to the Road Transport Act on 3 July 2026 that give cities per-vehicle taxi permits, treat Uber and Bolt as carriers, let the minister set maximum fares, introduce TX plates and stiffen penalties. The date they take effect had not been confirmed when we checked, and Dubrovnik's mayor had asked for tighter taxi rules the previous August. None of it changes how a pre-booked chauffeur car is priced: the fare was agreed before you travelled.

The honest comparison with a rank taxi is not about the fare alone. It is the certainty of the vehicle class, a chauffeur who already knows the zone access for your address, and one price for an airport-to-Kotor day that a rank car may not want to quote. The full side by side is on Dubrovnik taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Distances here are short and the roads are few. The summer column is the one to plan with between June and September, when the coast road and the city entrances fill up.

DBV to Split Riva3 h 45 to 4 h 154 h 15 to 5 hVia the Pelješac Bridge, no Neum crossing, then the motorway

Two things sit outside these ranges. Border crossings into Montenegro and Bosnia are the edge of the EU and queues on summer weekends can add an hour or more on their own. And during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, which runs from mid-July to late August, evening drop-offs near the walls slow down around performance times. For a flight you cannot miss in August, add half the off-peak time again.

Leaving the walls behind.

Long runs from Dubrovnik are quoted as one fixed fare for the whole journey. A slow border queue or a coach in front of you on Pelješac is the operator's concern rather than yours.

Kotor and Mostar sit outside the European Union, so the run crosses the EU's external border with full passport checks on both sides. A vehicle carrying passengers into Montenegro or Bosnia also needs an operator licensed for the other side, which is why dispatch confirms those bookings rather than selling them automatically. Every passenger's passport details are confirmed at booking.

When you should not book us.

Dubrovnik is small, and for some arrivals a private car is more than the trip needs.

Landing alone with a carry-on and staying near Ploče Gate or Gruž, the Platanus airport shuttle is hard to beat. It costs €10 one way or €15 return, takes about 30 minutes to the Ploče Gate stop and about 35 minutes to Gruž bus station, and tickets are bought before you board. Inside the walls nobody drives, so a chauffeur cannot take you the last few hundred metres to an apartment up a flight of steps either.

A car makes sense in other situations: more than two people, children and their seats, a lot of luggage, a villa in Konavle the shuttle does not reach, a ship that docks at Gruž on a flight day, a run to Kotor, Mostar or Ston, or a late arrival after the last bus. That covers most of what people book with us, and we would rather say plainly where it does not. The full comparison is on Dubrovnik taxi versus chauffeur.

Dubrovnik questions.

If yours is not here, dispatch answers around the clock at +1 888 881 7933 or support@rydes.co.

How far is Dubrovnik Airport from the Old Town?

About 21 km by road to Pile Gate. Expect 30 to 40 minutes outside the season and 45 minutes to an hour on a July or August afternoon; the airport itself quotes 30 to 35 minutes, up to an hour in summer. Lapad and Gruž are about 22 km and slightly longer. See DBV to the Old Town.

Can a car drive into Dubrovnik's Old Town?

No. The area inside the walls is pedestrian only, and the streets around it are a controlled traffic zone where only approved vehicles may enter during the season. Your chauffeur stops at the nearest permitted point, usually by Pile Gate or Ploče Gate, and dispatch arranges zone access for your address in advance where needed. See Old Town transfers.

Where will my chauffeur meet me at Dubrovnik Airport?

At the point named in the message sent to you before landing, a short walk from the Terminal B arrivals exit. The taxi rank is directly in front of arrivals, but your chauffeur waits separately. Being met inside the hall with a name board is a paid add-on. Details are on Dubrovnik airport transfers.

Who carries out a RYDES journey in Dubrovnik?

RYDES arranges the booking, and the journey itself is carried out by an operator licensed for passenger transport in Croatia under the Road Transport Act. Licensing and insurance are verified before an operator can take bookings, rather than checked ride by ride.

Are VAT and tolls included in a Dubrovnik price?

Yes. VAT is included in the price, and so is any road toll on the route. Prices are quoted and charged in euros, Croatia's currency. The only cost outside the quote is paid parking if you ask the car to wait at a stop that charges for it. Compare it on Dubrovnik taxi versus chauffeur.

Is the airport shuttle a better option?

Sometimes, and we would rather say so. Travelling alone with light luggage to Ploče Gate or Gruž, the Platanus shuttle costs €10 one way or €15 return and takes about 30 to 35 minutes, with tickets bought before boarding. A private car earns its price with a family, a group, heavy bags, a villa away from the bus stops, or a late arrival.

How do I get from Gruž cruise port to the airport?

Book a transfer timed to your ship. Gruž to Dubrovnik Airport is about 22 km, usually 35 to 45 minutes and up to about 65 minutes on a busy summer morning. Give us the ship's name and your chauffeur's message names the waiting point at the berth. See Dubrovnik cruise port transfers.

Are cruise ship numbers limited in Dubrovnik?

Yes. Under the Respect the City programme, in place since 2017, the aim is no more than two ships and about 4,000 cruise visitors a day, and the port authority's 2026 berthing policy caps cruise visitors in the city at once at 4,000. Dubrovnik still handled 557 cruise visits in 2025, more than any other Croatian port.

How long is the drive from Dubrovnik Airport to Cavtat?

About 6 km, typically 10 to 15 minutes and rarely more than 25. Cavtat sits on the airport side of the city, so the run avoids Dubrovnik's traffic entirely. See DBV to Cavtat and Cavtat transfers.

Can you drive me from Dubrovnik to Kotor in Montenegro?

Yes, once dispatch confirms an operator licensed for the Montenegrin side. Kotor is about 59 km from the airport, usually 1 hour 35 to 1 hour 50 of driving plus the border queue, which can be long in summer. Every passenger needs a passport, confirmed at booking. See Dubrovnik to Kotor and DBV to Kotor.

Can I take a private transfer from Dubrovnik to Mostar?

Yes, as a one-way transfer or a day trip by the hour. Mostar is about 164 km from Dubrovnik Airport, around 3 to 3 hours 30 of driving outside the summer plus the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina. Passports and a cross-border operator are confirmed at booking. See Dubrovnik to Mostar.

Does the drive to Split still cross the Neum border?

No. Since the Pelješac Bridge opened, the coast route to Split stays in Croatia and avoids the Neum corridor, and the bridge itself is toll-free. Split Riva is about 252 km from Dubrovnik Airport, typically 3 hours 45 to 4 hours 15, longer in summer. See Dubrovnik to Split.

Can I book a car for a day in Ston or on Pelješac?

Yes. Hourly hire has a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments, and the car waits at each stop. Ston is about 72 km from the airport and Orebić about 127 km, so a full day with lunch and a winery suits the hourly booking. See Dubrovnik to Ston and hourly chauffeur hire.

How much free waiting do I get at Dubrovnik Airport?

Sixty minutes from the actual landing time, tracked against the aircraft, which covers passport control and baggage on a busy summer day. Other pickups include 15 minutes. After the free window, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before it starts.

When is the Dubrovnik Summer Festival?

The festival runs from mid-July to late August each year; the 77th edition ran from 10 July to 25 August 2026, and the 2027 dates are confirmed when the festival publishes them. Evening traffic near the walls slows around performances, so allow extra time and book early. For wedding and event cars, see wedding transportation.

How far ahead should I book in Dubrovnik?

At least 3 hours before pickup, and reservations open up to a year ahead. For July and August, festival evenings, weekend wedding dates and group movements, book as soon as plans are firm. Free cancellation runs up to 24 hours before pickup. See group transportation for larger parties.
