How Marbella actually gets used.

A coast where the airport is an hour away, half the addresses sit behind a barrier, and the evening starts at ten. The fleet is the same; the dispatch changes with the day.

What is a Marbella chauffeur service?

A Marbella chauffeur service is a private car and driver booked in advance at a fixed price, operated by a licensed VTC operator authorised under Spain's Ley de Ordenación de los Transportes Terrestres (LOTT) and recorded, trip by trip, in the Ministry of Transport's electronic VTC register before the car moves. In Spain a chauffeur car is a VTC: it can only move with a contract already in place, which is exactly how a RYDES booking works. The car, the chauffeur and the euro price are agreed before the day, whether you need a Málaga airport transfer to Marbella, an hourly car service for an evening in Puerto Banús or a black car for a property viewing in the hills.

What matters in Marbella is the last stretch. The airport is roughly 56 km away and taxis from it run on the interurban meter, with no official fixed fare to Marbella. Many villas sit up private roads in Benahavís, La Zagaleta or Sierra Blanca where the gate needs a name at security. A reserved Marbella car service arrives knowing the address, the access code arrangements and how many golf bags are coming, and the quote already contains the 10 percent IVA and any AP-7 tolls on the way.

The same reservation reaches the rest of the western Costa del Sol: Gibraltar airport transfers, runs to Estepona and Sotogrande, the mountain road to Ronda, and day trips to Granada or Seville. Families comparing options will find the meter set against a fixed fare on the Marbella taxi alternative page, and companies bringing teams to the coast for a conference or an incentive trip can book the same fleet through corporate travel with central billing.

The airports that serve Marbella.

Marbella has no airport and no railway station. Almost everyone arrives through Málaga; Gibraltar is the alternative when the flight, or the destination, sits further west.

Drive times are door to door for a direct private car, measured to Marbella centre. Puerto Banús, Nueva Andalucía and the hill estates add to the Málaga figure; Sotogrande takes it off the Gibraltar one. Peak here means summer, July and August above all, plus Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons on the AP-7 and the A-7. Gibraltar times leave out the frontier itself, which has changed in 2026 and is not something we will promise a queue time for. Málaga airport handled 26.8 million passengers in 2025; for the city of Málaga itself, see Malaga chauffeur service.

Where your chauffeur meets you.

Three places matter on a Marbella booking: the arrivals floor at Málaga, the terminal at Gibraltar, and the gate at the end of the drive. Each works differently.

Málaga arrivals.

At Málaga the ride-hailing and VTC pickup points are on floor 0 of Terminal 3, and the Parking Express car park gives the first 10 minutes free. Your chauffeur names the exact point in the message sent before you land, and any short-stay charge for collecting you is already inside the price. Andalusian rules keep empty VTCs without a booking from circling within 300 metres of the airport, which is why the car is positioned against your flight rather than waiting on the kerb.

Bags and buggies are the usual Marbella problem. A family of four with two golf bags will not fit a Business sedan, and the honest booking is an SUV or a Van. The drive itself is on Málaga airport to Marbella and Málaga airport to Puerto Banús.

  • Golf bags and extra luggageTell us at booking. Bags decide the vehicle class more than passengers do.

Gibraltar arrivals.

Under the EU–UK treaty signed on 14 July 2026, routine passport checks at the Gibraltar land border ended on 15 July 2026, and joint checks now happen at Gibraltar airport itself. That makes Gibraltar airport transfers simpler for people. How vehicles are handled at the frontier is less clear, so every Gibraltar run is confirmed by dispatch at booking, including where the chauffeur meets you, rather than sold automatically.

Gibraltar earns its place for UK flights and for anyone staying at the western end. Sotogrande, Casares and Estepona are closer to it than to Málaga, and Marbella itself is about 75 km away. Timing for the drive is on Gibraltar airport to Marbella. We do not quote frontier queue times, because nobody can yet do so honestly.

Your villa or hotel gate.

A large share of Marbella pickups are not on a public street. La Zagaleta, the estates above Benahavís and many urbanisations in Nueva Andalucía and Sierra Blanca have a barrier and a guard who needs the guest's name. Put the villa name, the gate and the security contact in the booking notes, and the chauffeur arrives ready to be let in. Hotels on the Golden Mile handle it at the front drive.

The 15 free minutes at an address start at the booked time, at the door, not at the barrier. If the estate is large, allow for the drive inside it. For a run that starts in the hills, see Málaga airport to Benahavís.

Pickup points above were checked against public sources in October 2026. Airport layouts and frontier procedures change, so treat the message your chauffeur sends before landing as the authority on where to walk.

AP-7 tolls, IVA and licensing.

Marbella has no congestion charge. What shapes a fare here is the tolled AP-7, the 10 percent IVA on passenger transport, and the licence the car is running under.

The AP-7 Autopista del Sol is the tolled motorway along this coast, and its prices change with the season. Between Málaga and Marbella the Calahonda toll is €5.50 in low season and €9.25 in summer 2026, the high-season pricing running from 1 June to 30 September. Further west the San Pedro de Alcántara toll is €6.25 in summer and the Manilva toll €4.05 in summer and €2.45 off-season; the full run from Málaga to Guadiaro, for Sotogrande, is €19.55 in summer and €12.00 off-season. The stretch between Marbella and Puerto Banús is a free bypass, and the free A-7 coastal road runs alongside the whole way, slower but toll-free. When the route uses the toll, the toll is inside your RYDES price.

Passenger transport in Spain carries the reduced 10 percent IVA rate, and 10 percent VAT (IVA) is inside every RYDES price. Any short-stay or car park charge at the airport for collecting you is in it too. The one thing outside the quote is parking you ask for elsewhere, such as a car held in a paid garage in Puerto Banús while you eat.

The licence matters more in Andalusia than most visitors realise. Every car is a VTC authorised under the national LOTT and its regulation (ROTT); the operator files each trip in the Ministry of Transport's electronic register (Real Decreto 785/2021) before it starts, the contract travels in the car, and a VTC may not cruise, wait at taxi ranks or carry taxi markings. Andalusia adds Decreto-ley 8/2022, upheld by the Constitutional Court in 2024: VTCs are booked at least 15 minutes ahead, cars are not shown before booking, and an empty VTC may not drive within 300 metres of airports, ports and stations. RYDES bookings are made at least 3 hours ahead, so the 15-minute rule is met automatically. Decreto-ley 2/2025 tightened the criteria for new authorisations. RYDES arranges the trip; the licensed VTC operator carries it out.

In summer the toll versus the free A-7 is a real choice, and the operator makes it on the day based on traffic. It does not change what you were quoted. Marbella has also approved, provisionally, a low-emission zone (ZBE) covering the old towns of Marbella and San Pedro, using the DGT environmental labels; so far it has issued warnings rather than fines, and its 2026 status is not confirmed. Vehicles heading to hotels, tourist accommodation or public car parks are exempt, and RYDES operators' cars meet the zone rules for the route. The full comparison is on Marbella taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Distances on the Costa del Sol are short. Summer is what stretches them, with the AP-7, the A-7 and the roads into Puerto Banús all filling at once in July and August.

Two things outside these columns: the night of a Starlite concert at the Cantera de Nagüeles, when the Golden Mile slows after the show, and the Sunday return to Málaga airport at the end of a summer fortnight. For a flight you cannot miss in August, add half the off-peak time again as a buffer.

Further afield.

Each of these is quoted as one fixed fare for the whole journey, so a slow Friday on the AP-7 or a lorry on the Ronda road is the operator's problem rather than yours.

Sotogrande sits in San Roque, in Cádiz province rather than Málaga, so dispatch confirms the operator for pickups that start there. Gibraltar, outside Spain, is confirmed at booking for the same reason, and every passenger carries a passport. For hill and coast addresses, the price is fixed to the exact address you give, not to the town name.

When you should not book us.

Marbella has no train, so the comparison here is with the bus, the shared shuttle and the taxi rank rather than with a railway.

Travelling alone with one bag from Málaga airport, a shared shuttle or the bus between the airport and Marbella will be the cheapest way in, and if you have time and no fixed arrival, that is the sensible choice. Taxis at the airport run on the interurban meter with no fixed fare to Marbella, which works out well enough for some trips and less well for others. Coming from Madrid, the direct train to Málaga is running again since 30 April 2026, at about 2 h 47, and is usually the right way to cover that distance before a short car ride for the last leg; see Malaga chauffeur service.

A chauffeur earns its place in other conditions: a family with cases and golf bags, a villa up a gated road the bus will never reach, a late arrival after the last connections, a group that would need two taxis, or a Gibraltar arrival where someone needs to sort out the frontier arrangements in advance. That is most of why people book on this coast, but not all travel, and we would rather say so. The full comparison is on Marbella taxi versus chauffeur.

Marbella questions.

If yours is not here, dispatch answers around the clock at +1 888 881 7933 or support@rydes.co.

Which airport should I fly into for Marbella?

Málaga for almost everyone. It is about 56 km from Marbella centre, usually 50 minutes to an hour by car off-peak, and has far more flights. Gibraltar, about 75 km away, suits UK flights and stays at the western end in Sotogrande, Casares or Estepona. Compare Málaga airport to Marbella with Gibraltar airport to Marbella.

How long is the drive from Málaga airport to Marbella?

About 56 km, typically 50 minutes to an hour off-peak and 1 hour 5 to 1 hour 30 in July and August. Puerto Banús is about 10 km further west. See Málaga airport to Marbella and Málaga airport to Puerto Banús.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Málaga airport?

At the VTC pickup point on floor 0 of Terminal 3 or at Parking Express, whichever your chauffeur names in the message sent before you land. Either is free; any car park charge for collecting you is inside the price. Meet and greet inside arrivals is a paid add-on. Detail is on Málaga airport to Marbella.

Is there a fixed taxi fare from Málaga airport to Marbella?

No. Málaga airport taxis have no official fixed fare to Marbella and run on the interurban meter. A RYDES booking is a fixed price agreed in advance, with 10 percent IVA and AP-7 tolls included. The comparison is on Marbella taxi versus chauffeur.

How does the Gibraltar border work now?

Under the EU–UK treaty signed on 14 July 2026, routine passport checks at the Gibraltar land border ended on 15 July 2026 and joint checks happen at Gibraltar airport. Arrangements for vehicles are not yet clear, so every Gibraltar run is confirmed by dispatch at booking, and we do not promise frontier queue times. See Gibraltar airport transfers.

Are AP-7 tolls included?

Yes. When the route uses the AP-7 Autopista del Sol, the toll is inside the price. Málaga to Marbella through the Calahonda toll costs €9.25 in summer 2026 (1 June to 30 September) and €5.50 in low season; the full Málaga to Guadiaro run is €19.55 in summer and €12.00 off-season. The stretch from Marbella to Puerto Banús is a free bypass.

Is IVA included in the price?

Yes. Passenger transport in Spain carries the reduced 10 percent IVA rate, and it is inside every RYDES price, along with tolls and any airport pickup charge. Parking you ask for along the way is not included.

Are Marbella chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Every car is a VTC run by a licensed VTC operator under Spain's LOTT, with each trip contracted in advance and filed in the Ministry of Transport's electronic VTC register before it starts. In Andalusia, Decreto-ley 8/2022 also requires VTCs to be booked at least 15 minutes ahead; RYDES bookings are made at least 3 hours ahead, so that is always met.

Can you collect us from a gated villa in La Zagaleta or Benahavís?

Yes. Add the villa name, the gate and the security contact to the booking notes so the guard expects the car. The 15 free minutes at an address start at the booked time at the door. Airport runs into the hills are on Málaga airport to Benahavís.

Can you take golf bags?

Yes, but they decide the vehicle. Two bags fit a sedan boot; four golfers with bags need a Van, and a family with cases plus bags needs an SUV or Van. Tell us the number at booking. Course runs are on Marbella golf transfers.

Do you go to Sotogrande?

Yes. Sotogrande is about 56 km from Marbella centre, usually 45 minutes to 1 hour 20 depending on the season and whether the AP-7 is used. It lies in San Roque, in Cádiz province, so dispatch confirms the operator for pickups starting there. See Sotogrande chauffeur service and Málaga airport to Sotogrande.

Does Marbella have a low-emission zone?

Marbella has provisionally approved a ZBE covering the old towns of Marbella and San Pedro, based on the DGT environmental labels. It has issued warnings rather than fines, and its 2026 status is not confirmed. Vehicles going to hotels, tourist accommodation or public car parks are exempt, and RYDES operators' cars meet the zone rules for the route.

Can I book a car for an evening in Puerto Banús?

Yes. Hourly hire has a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments, and the chauffeur waits between dinner, the port and wherever the night goes next. Paid parking you ask for is the one cost outside the quote. See hourly chauffeur in Marbella and Puerto Banús.

Should I just take the bus from Málaga airport?

If you are alone with one bag and not in a hurry, a bus or shared shuttle between Málaga airport and Marbella is the cheapest way in, and we would rather say so. Marbella has no train. A chauffeur is worth it for families with luggage and golf bags, villa addresses up gated roads, late arrivals and Gibraltar runs.

Can you drive me to Ronda, Granada or Seville?

Yes, each as one fixed fare. Ronda is about 61 km on the A-397 mountain road, roughly 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 30. Granada is about 181 km and Seville about 190 km. See Marbella to Ronda, Marbella to Granada and Marbella to Seville.

When should I book early in Marbella?

For July and August, when AP-7 high-season pricing and the busiest traffic both apply; for the Starlite Occident festival at the Cantera de Nagüeles (12 June to 31 August in 2026; 2027 dates not yet published); for LIV Golf Andalucía at Valderrama (4 to 7 June 2026); for Semana Santa, 21 to 28 March 2027; and for New Year. RYDES needs at least 3 hours' notice and takes bookings up to a year ahead. Event runs are covered on private transfers.

What if my flight is delayed?

Add the flight number and the pickup follows the aircraft at no charge. The 60 free minutes start at the real landing time. If the flight diverts, dispatch re-briefs the chauffeur to the new airport.
