Hourly chauffeur in Palma

What is a Palma de Mallorca chauffeur service?

A Palma de Mallorca chauffeur service is a private car and driver booked in advance at a fixed euro price, run by a VTC operator authorised under Spain's Ley de Ordenación de los Transportes Terrestres and the Balearic Islands' Ley 1/2024, with every trip filed in the Ministry of Transport's electronic VTC register before it starts. It cannot be flagged down and it does not wait at taxi ranks. Whether the booking is a PMI airport transfer, an hourly car service in Palma or a black car to Son Vida, the vehicle class, the chauffeur and the price are agreed before the car moves.

In Spain a chauffeur car is a VTC: it can only move with a contract already in place, which is exactly how a RYDES booking works. RYDES arranges the journey and a licensed VTC operator on Mallorca carries it out. Compared with a taxi alternative from the rank, the difference on this island is mostly about August: a metered fare to a resort an hour away adds the €4.65 airport supplement and runs on the clock, while a reserved Palma car service fare already holds the 10 percent VAT and any airport car park charge for your pickup.

The same reservation reaches every corner of Mallorca. Cruise terminal transfers at the Estació Marítima and the Dique del Oeste, PMI to Puerto Portals and PMI to Port d'Andratx for the south-west, PMI to Deià for the mountains, and PMI to Pollença or PMI to Alcúdia for the north. Companies bringing teams, crews or incentive groups to the island every season can add central billing through corporate travel with RYDES.

Where Mallorca arrivals land.

Almost every visitor reaches the island through one airport or one harbour. What changes is the door you come out of and how far you are heading afterwards.

Times are door to door from the pickup point in a direct private vehicle. Peak on Mallorca is less about commuting than about the season: Saturday changeover days between May and October, the coach waves when two or three ships are in port, and early evening on the seafront. Ferries are scheduled by the shipping lines, and the crossing from Barcelona runs between 3.5 and 8.5 hours depending on the vessel.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

Palma airport separates taxis from other pre-booked cars, and the port has two separate cruise areas. Knowing your door saves time.

Palma airport.

PMI carried 33.8 million passengers in 2025, which makes it the third-busiest airport in Spain, with Germany and the UK by far its largest markets. It has a single central terminal divided into Modules A to D. Module A handles mainly non-Schengen flights, which includes the UK, so British arrivals pass passport control before reaching baggage reclaim. Module D closed in November 2025 for roof works and partly reopened on 27 March 2026.

Under Aena's pickup rules, taxis and VTC operators that hold an Aena lease use the front of Arrivals; other VTCs and private cars collect from car park G at the general parking rate, reported at €1.24 after 30 minutes and €2.40 an hour. The short-stay Parking Express Arrivals area is free for the first 15 minutes, up to two hours. Whichever point your operator uses, any car park charge for your pickup is already inside the RYDES price. Timing for the onward drive is on PMI to Palma old town.

The cruise and ferry port.

The Port of Palma has two places a chauffeur might meet you. The Estació Marítima handles ferries and some cruise calls close to the Paseo Marítimo; the Dique del Oeste, the long western breakwater, takes the larger cruise ships. Since a 2022 agreement the port admits at most three cruise ships a day, only one of them carrying more than 5,000 passengers. The renewal signed in February 2026 keeps that limit and lowers the daily passenger average between June and September to 7,500 for 2027 to 2029, under a deal that runs to 2031.

About 1.4 million cruise passengers are forecast for 2026, with the heaviest days in spring and autumn. On a three-ship day, coaches on the port road set the pace, so allow extra margin. Your chauffeur confirms the exact quay and door once the ship's berth is published.

Private aviation and the marinas.

Business aircraft at PMI are handled by FBOs including Mallorcair and Sky Valet Palma de Mallorca, and a chauffeur collects at the handling agent's door rather than at the public terminal. Many of those passengers go straight to a boat, which is what yacht transfers are for.

The Palma International Boat Show fills the Moll Vell, in the old harbour, each spring; in 2026 it ran from 29 April to 2 May, and the 2027 dates have not been announced. On a show day, an hourly booking that waits near the quay usually beats several single rides.

Pickup points above were checked against Aena's published rules (February 2024) and port information in October 2026. Car park charges and module allocations change, so treat the message your chauffeur sends before you land or dock as the final word on where to walk.

VAT, the island rules and the airport pickup.

Mallorca has no toll roads. What shapes the fare here is the regional VTC law, the airport's car park rules and the taxi tariff the island sets, and each reaches you differently.

Since 2017 the Sóller tunnel has been free, and no other road on the island charges a toll, so tolls never appear on a Mallorca booking. The 10 percent VAT that Spain applies to passenger transport is inside every RYDES price, and so is any car park charge incurred for your airport pickup. The Balearic tourist tax, the ITS, is a separate matter: your hotel or rental collects it per person per night, up to €4 in high season at the top category, and it never appears in a transfer fare.

The regional rules are tighter here than on the mainland. Ley 1/2024 requires every VTC trip in the Balearic Islands to be booked at least 30 minutes ahead with proof carried in the car, bars cruising and waiting at ports, airports, stations or hotels without a booking, and keeps VTCs off taxi ranks. A VTC may only work on the island where its authorisation is domiciled, so a Mallorca car does not cross to Ibiza and an Ibiza car does not work here. Decreto 6/2026, in force since 22 February 2026, ended the moratorium on new licences and capped surge pricing at 75 percent; Uber and Spain's competition authority, the CNMC, have challenged it in court. Mallorca also issued 75 temporary electric-only VTC licences for the 2025 and 2026 summers. A RYDES booking is made at least 3 hours ahead, so the 30-minute rule is met on every trip.

Nationally, a VTC holds an authorisation under the LOTT (Ley 16/1987) and its regulation, the ROTT, and each trip is entered in the Ministry of Transport's electronic register under Real Decreto 785/2021 before it begins. The vehicle carries no taxi markings and must start its trips in its home region, apart from pre-booked airport and port pickups heading back to that region. The law still contains a ratio of one VTC authorisation for every 30 taxis, but since the EU Court of Justice ruling of 8 June 2023 in Prestige and Limousine (C-50/21), Spanish courts no longer apply it automatically, as the Supreme Court confirmed in September 2026.

The island taxi tariff under Decreto 20/2025 starts at €2.50 by day and adds about €1.20 a kilometre, plus €4.65 from the airport or port. For a short hop into Palma the meter is the honest choice. The sums change on an hour-long drive to Pollença or Port d'Andratx with a family and six cases, which is where a fixed fare earns its place. The full breakdown is on Palma taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Distances on Mallorca are short. The season stretches them: a July Saturday turns a 25-minute drive into most of an hour.

Between May and October, and over Easter, plan from the top of the range for anything you cannot miss. Large marches against mass tourism have closed parts of central Palma at times in 2025 and 2026; when one is announced, dispatch routes around the centre and tells you if the pickup time should move.

Into the mountains and up the coast.

Every island run is priced as one fixed fare to the address, so a slow mountain road or a coach ahead on a hairpin is the operator's problem rather than yours.

From 15 May to 18 October 2026, between 10:00 and 22:00, the Ma-2210 to Cap de Formentor is restricted. On the first section to Formentor beach, private cars may use the car park at km 8 until it is full, and taxis, VTCs and coaches can be authorised; beyond km 8.7 to the lighthouse, only the TIB 334 shuttle, residents, reduced-mobility vehicles and authorised vehicles may drive, and taxis and VTCs are limited to the first section. The authorisation comes from the DGT at least three working days ahead, so dispatch arranges it and a Formentor transfer in that window needs that much notice. Leaving the island by sea, ferries to Barcelona take 3.5 to 8.5 hours, to Valencia 6.5 to 9.5 hours and to Dénia about 5 hours.

Holiday luggage is the deciding factor on Mallorca more than passenger count. Golf bags, pushchairs and a fortnight's cases fill a saloon boot quickly, so size up early.

What the Palma price contains.

One euro figure, set when you book. It does not move with the meter, the season or a busy ship day.

VAT, and no tolls to add
The 10 percent VAT on passenger transport is inside the price. Mallorca has no toll roads, and the Sóller tunnel has been free since 2017.
The airport pickup charge
Any car park charge at PMI for collecting you, including car park G when that is the operator's pickup point, is already counted.
Gratuity is your call
The chauffeur's pay for the run was agreed before they accepted it. A tip is offered once at payment and you can add one or skip it.

When you should not book us.

Palma airport is close to the city, and for a light traveller going into town the bus is hard to beat.

On your own with a cabin bag, heading for a hotel near Plaça d'Espanya or the Passeig Mallorca, take the EMT line A1. It runs from the airport into central Palma and the tourist fare is €5. That is the right call, and we would rather say so than sell you a car you do not need. For resorts further out, the TIB island buses connect the airport and Palma with much of the coast, and in the Formentor restriction window the TIB 334 shuttle is the only way to reach the lighthouse at all.

A taxi is also a sensible choice for a short ride inside Palma with no luggage, where the island tariff starts at €2.50 by day. A chauffeur makes sense when the sums change: a family and a week of cases, a villa in the hills the bus does not reach, a 23:30 arrival, a day in the Tramuntana with several stops, a yacht crew change, or a Saturday in August when the taxi queue is long. If you are moving between islands, fly or take the ferry, because a Mallorca VTC cannot work on Ibiza. The full comparison is on Palma taxi versus chauffeur.

If yours is not here, dispatch answers around the clock at +1 888 881 7933 or support@rydes.co.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Palma airport?

At the point named in the message sent before you land. Under Aena's rules, taxis and VTC operators with an Aena lease use the front of Arrivals, while other VTCs collect from car park G. Either way it is the free default, and any car park charge is inside the price. Meet and greet in the arrivals hall is a paid add-on. See PMI airport transfers.

Which module will I arrive in at PMI?

PMI has one central terminal with Modules A to D. Module A handles mainly non-Schengen flights, including those from the UK, so expect passport control before baggage reclaim. Module D closed in November 2025 for roof works and partly reopened on 27 March 2026. Your chauffeur tracks the flight, so you do not need to know the module in advance.

How long is the drive from PMI to Palma old town?

About 13 km, usually 25 to 35 minutes, and 35 to 55 minutes on a summer Saturday or when the old town is busy. The Paseo Marítimo is about 12 km and slightly quicker. See PMI to Palma old town.

Are VAT, tolls and airport fees included?

Yes. The 10 percent VAT on passenger transport and any airport car park charge for your pickup are inside the price shown at booking. Mallorca has no toll roads and the Sóller tunnel has been free since 2017. Parking you ask for elsewhere is the only thing outside the quote. See Palma taxi versus chauffeur.

Is the Balearic tourist tax included in the fare?

No, because it is not a transport charge. The ITS is collected by your hotel or holiday rental per person per night, up to €4 in high season at the top category, and it never appears on a transfer price.

Are RYDES chauffeurs on Mallorca licensed?

Yes. Every car is a VTC run by a licensed operator, authorised under the national LOTT and its regulation, and working under the Balearic Islands' Ley 1/2024 with its authorisation domiciled on Mallorca. Each trip is filed in the Ministry of Transport's electronic VTC register before it starts. RYDES arranges the booking and the operator carries out the journey.

What is the 30-minute rule in the Balearic Islands?

Ley 1/2024 requires every VTC trip in the Balearics to be booked at least 30 minutes before it starts, with proof carried in the car, and bars VTCs from waiting at ports, airports, stations or hotels without a booking. RYDES bookings are made at least 3 hours ahead, so every trip meets the rule automatically.

Can my Mallorca chauffeur take me to Ibiza or Menorca?

No. Balearic law keeps each VTC on the island where its authorisation is domiciled, so a Mallorca car works only on Mallorca. Travel between islands by air or ferry and book a separate car on arrival, for example through chauffeur service in Ibiza.

Can you drive me to Formentor in summer?

Yes, to the hotel and beach, with notice. From 15 May to 18 October 2026, between 10:00 and 22:00, VTCs need a DGT authorisation for the first section of the Ma-2210, requested at least three working days ahead, which dispatch arranges. Beyond km 8.7 to the lighthouse, only the TIB 334 shuttle and authorised vehicles may drive in those hours. See Formentor transfers.

How long does PMI to Deià or Sóller take?

Deià is about 38 km, usually 50 to 70 minutes on a winding mountain road. Sóller is about 33 km, 40 to 60 minutes through the toll-free Sóller tunnel. A day visiting both with Valldemossa suits hourly hire. See PMI to Deià and Sóller and Deià.

Do you collect from the cruise terminals?

Yes, at both the Estació Marítima and the Dique del Oeste. PMI to the Dique del Oeste is about 14 km, usually 25 to 35 minutes, longer when three ships are in port. Your chauffeur confirms the exact quay once the berth is published. See Palma cruise terminal transfers.

Would the A1 bus be better for me?

Sometimes, and we say so. Travelling alone with a small bag into central Palma, the EMT line A1 runs from the airport to Plaça d'Espanya and the Passeig Mallorca for a €5 tourist fare. A chauffeur is worth it with luggage, children, a group, a late arrival, or a destination outside Palma.

Can you take us to a yacht at Puerto Portals or Port d'Andratx?

Yes. PMI to Puerto Portals is about 24 km, usually 28 to 40 minutes, and Port d'Andratx about 44 km, 45 to 55 minutes off-peak. Crew changes and charter groups often need a Van for luggage and provisions. See yacht transfers and PMI to Puerto Portals.

How much free waiting do I get at Palma airport?

Sixty minutes from the actual landing time, tracked against the aircraft, which covers passport control and baggage. Other pickups include 15 minutes. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before it starts.

When should I book for Mallorca in high season?

At least 3 hours ahead, and reservations open up to a year out. Book early for Easter, the May to October season, Saturday changeover days, and the Palma International Boat Show, which in 2026 ran from 29 April to 2 May. Clocks go back on 25 October 2026. Hourly days are on hourly chauffeur in Palma.

Can I ask for a German- or English-speaking chauffeur?

You can add a language preference in the booking notes and the operator will try to match it. No particular language is promised.
