How Mykonos actually gets used.

Distances here are short and the island is small. What people book is certainty: a named car at the airport, at the ferry, and at the end of the evening.

What is a Mykonos chauffeur service?

A Mykonos chauffeur service is pre-arranged private transport with a professional driver, at a price settled before you travel, delivered by a licensed EIX operator: in Greek law an Epivatigo Idiotikis Chrisis, a private-use passenger car with driver, the limousine licence. Under Law 5290/2026 an EIX can only be hired through a written contract registered in the Ministry's digital register before the trip starts, naming the pickup point and the start and end times. On Mykonos the minimum hire from 1 April to 31 October is 30 minutes with a minimum fare of €36, and 3 hours the rest of the year. RYDES posts that contract for you, whether the booking is a JMK airport transfer, an hourly car service for an evening out, or a black car to a lunch reservation at Psarou.

That timed structure is the honest answer to a question people ask: why does a 5 km ride cost what it does. A Greek chauffeur transfer is legally a timed hire, so even a short airport run is priced as at least the legal minimum, and for the length of the contract the car cannot be hired to anyone else. What you get in return is a Mykonos car service that is not part of the queue at the New Port, a named chauffeur rather than a stranger offering a lift in the arrivals hall, and a price that already holds the 13 percent VAT and any airport fee owed for collecting you. Treat it as a taxi alternative in the hours when the island's taxis are simply all busy.

The same reservation covers the whole island. JMK to Mykonos Town and JMK to the New Port are the shortest runs, JMK to Ornos and JMK to Platis Gialos reach the south coast, and JMK to Kalo Livadi goes furthest east. Private transfers handle ferries from Athens and onward hops to Santorini, and firms bringing incentive groups or launches to the island can settle everything on corporate travel accounts.

Arriving on Mykonos.

One airport and two harbours. Most visitors fly into JMK or step off a ferry at Tourlos; cruise passengers usually come ashore by tender. Where you arrive decides where your chauffeur stands.

Times assume one private car going straight from pickup to drop-off. In the right-hand column, peak stands for July and August, especially the hours when several flights or ferries arrive together and the evening shift from beach to town. Between November and March the off-peak figures are usually generous. Athens and Santorini are listed because they are the usual legs either side of a Mykonos stay: book the transfer to the ferry at Piraeus or Rafina on Athens chauffeur service, and the arrival on the next island on Santorini chauffeur service.

Where your chauffeur is waiting.

JMK is one terminal, and both harbours are small. The detail that matters is which harbour your boat uses, and how close a car can get to the address in Chora.

Mykonos Airport, JMK.

Mykonos Airport handled 1,581,742 passengers in 2025, down 2.0 percent on the year before, and about 1.09 million of them were on international flights. Almost all of that traffic is squeezed into the months between late spring and early autumn, so the same terminal that is calm in February is crowded on a Saturday in July. Fraport Greece, which runs the airport, is studying an expansion of the terminal; no design has been approved, so nothing about arrivals is changing yet.

Your chauffeur names the exact meeting point in the message sent before you land, along with their name, the vehicle and its plate. Whatever the airport levies on that pickup is already counted in what you pay. Because the contract is registered before the trip, the chauffeur can show the police your booking at the airport if asked, which is the point of the new law. Timing for the drive into town is on JMK to Mykonos Town.

  • The named meeting point, freeThe standard pickup outside arrivals, at the spot written in the message you receive before landing.
  • Name board inside, a paid add-onThe chauffeur stands in the arrivals hall holding your name, handy on a first trip, with a group, or with tired children after a late flight.
  • Nobody else in the carThe contract is yours for its full length, so the vehicle cannot pick up another passenger on the way.

New Port, Tourlos.

Since 2021 every scheduled ferry, conventional and high-speed, uses the New Port at Tourlos, north of Chora. When a large ferry docks in summer, hundreds of people walk off at once, and the shortage of taxis at the New Port is one of the most reported problems on the island. A pre-booked car avoids that line entirely: the chauffeur follows the vessel rather than the printed schedule and waits for your group at the point named in the message.

If you are staying in Chora, the Sea Bus links the New Port and the Old Port about every 30 minutes in season, for a couple of euros. It is a pleasant way into town with a small bag. With suitcases, children or a villa address, a car is simpler. The drive from the airport to Tourlos is on JMK to the New Port.

Old Port and Chora.

The Old Port on the Chora waterfront handles small boats, the excursion boats to Delos and some of the cruise tenders. It sits right against the old town, so the meeting point here is usually a short walk from where the boat ties up, at the closest spot a car is allowed to stop.

Chora itself is a maze of lanes built long before cars. Chora's streets limit vehicles; the drop-off is the nearest permitted point, and from there it is a walk through the alleys to Little Venice or a hotel inside the old town. If your accommodation is in the centre, tell us with the booking and the chauffeur will name the closest drop-off and, if you add meet and greet, help with bags to the door.

We checked the airport and harbour details here against public sources in October 2026. Ferry lines shift berths between seasons and Chora's access rules are set locally, so if anything on the day differs, follow the meeting point in your chauffeur's message.

VAT, the legal minimum and the island fees.

No toll roads and no congestion zone exist on Mykonos. The fare is shaped instead by the sales tax, the Greek rules that make every chauffeur trip a timed hire, and two fees that are charged by someone else.

Every EIX fare in Greece carries 13 percent VAT, and 13 percent VAT is inside every RYDES price. The island has no tolled roads, so that line never exists on a quote. The island has no traffic lights at all, only roundabouts, which slow to a crawl at the busiest hours.

The rule that matters most is the minimum hire. Under Decision 74649/2026, an EIX on the islands outside Crete and Evia is hired for at least 30 minutes with a minimum fare of €36 from 1 April to 31 October, and for at least 3 hours the rest of the year. The contract must be registered at least 30 minutes before pickup; on the islands, the intermediary that takes the booking posts it, which on a RYDES booking is done for you. RYDES closes bookings at least 3 hours ahead, so that window is always met. Carrying passengers without a registered contract costs an operator a €6,000 fine, or €10,000 for a repeat.

Taxi owners argue that EIX operators sell taxi-style A-to-B trips under another name. The 2026 rules answer that directly: a chauffeur hire on Mykonos is a timed contract, registered in advance, with a floor price, and the car cannot be hailed, cannot wait for passing customers and cannot be hired to anyone else while yours runs. Two other charges arrive separately. The climate resilience fee is billed by your accommodation per room per night, from April to October €2 at one- and two-star hotels, €5 at three stars, €10 at four, and €15 at five-star hotels and villas; short-term rentals pay €8 up to 80 m² and €15 above, with lower rates from November to March. Cruise passengers pay a €20 per-passenger fee at Mykonos from June to September. Neither ever appears in a transport fare. The metered-fare comparison sits on Mykonos taxi versus chauffeur.

The third column is there because it is a real choice people get offered. Traffic police on Mykonos have arrested people for touting at arrival points and for carrying paying passengers in private cars, and targeted checks are continuing. Those cars carry no passenger insurance and no registered contract. A booked private transfer with a licensed EIX is the legal version of the same convenience. Taxi owners struck repeatedly in early 2026 over a separate law on electric taxis in Athens and Thessaloniki.

How long the drives really take.

On a map, nothing on Mykonos is more than a few kilometres away. In July and August the same narrow roads carry quad bikes, scooters, buses, delivery vans and every hire car on the island, and the clock runs very differently.

Usual drive from JMK to the places most arrivals head for, in a private car with no stops.
RouteOff-peakJuly and AugustWhat moves it
JMK to the New Port (Tourlos)8 to 12 min15 to 35 minAbout 4.5 km; slowest when a large ferry is loading or unloading
JMK to Mykonos Town (Chora)10 to 15 min20 to 35 minAbout 5 km to the nearest permitted drop-off, then a walk
JMK to Ornos and Agios Ioannis10 to 15 min20 to 35 minAbout 6 km; the bay road fills in the late afternoon
JMK to Psarou12 to 18 min25 to 45 minAbout 7 km; the lane down to the beach clubs is the bottleneck
JMK to Platis Gialos12 to 18 min25 to 45 minAbout 7 km, sharing most of the route with Psarou
JMK to Paradise12 to 18 min25 to 40 minAbout 5 km, but narrow and steep near the beach
JMK to Kalo Livadi15 to 20 min25 to 45 minAbout 9 km on the road east, the longest of the airport routes

The busy hours on Mykonos follow boats and beaches rather than offices: the hours when the big ferries dock at Tourlos, the stream of cars heading to the south-coast clubs around lunch, and the move back towards Chora at sunset. For a flight or ferry you must catch in high summer, work from the upper July and August figure and leave extra time for check-in. Outside the season, the off-peak figures are close to what you will see.

Across the island.

Mykonos has no intercity runs, only short distances on roads that are narrower and busier than the distances suggest. Each transfer is priced once, to the address you give, so a crawling lane takes minutes from you but nothing from your wallet.

Short hops between places on the island, from a villa in Agios Lazaros to dinner in Chora or from Ornos to Psarou, are booked the same way as airport runs and carry the same legal minimum. When the evening has three or four stops, hourly hire is usually better value than a string of single transfers. Villa addresses often sit on unmarked tracks; drop a map pin or paste the owner's directions into the booking and the fare locks to that spot.

Which car, for Mykonos.

Capacities here are what travels comfortably with a holiday's worth of luggage. On Mykonos that usually means more bags than people, and roads narrower than the car you might have in mind.

Some villa tracks are too steep or tight for the largest vehicles; tell us the address at booking and the operator confirms which class can reach the gate. Size the car for the party coming home at 03:00, which is rarely the party that left at 20:00. Seat counts and boot space for every class are set out on vehicle classes. Larger parties are handled on group transportation on Mykonos.

When you should not book us.

Mykonos is small enough that a car is sometimes the wrong tool, and the legal minimum makes that clearer than on most islands.

Travelling alone with a backpack and staying in Chora or near a bus stop, KTEL Mykonos will do the job. It runs 26 buses from two hubs, Fabrika for the south beaches and the Old Port for the north, with routes that include Fabrika to the airport and the airport to the New Port. The off-season timetable starts on 12 October 2026, so check the times before you rely on it late in the year. If you arrive by ferry and your hotel is in town, the Sea Bus from the New Port to the Old Port runs about every 30 minutes in season for a couple of euros, and Chora is then on foot.

A chauffeur is worth the price when the bus or the Sea Bus stops making sense: suitcases on a hillside villa track, more than two people, small children, a late flight, a ferry arriving when the New Port taxi line is long, a dinner booking you cannot miss, or an evening with several stops. Below the €36 floor there is no chauffeur option at all in season, and a 3-hour minimum applies from November to March, so for a short hop alone off-season the bus or a licensed taxi is often the sensible answer. The full comparison is on Mykonos taxi versus chauffeur.

Mykonos questions.

If yours is not here, dispatch answers around the clock at +1 888 881 7933 or support@rydes.co.

Is a chauffeur on Mykonos legal and licensed?

Yes. Every RYDES car on Mykonos is an EIX, the Greek private-use passenger car with driver, run by a licensed operator. Under Law 5290/2026 it can only be hired with a written contract registered in the Ministry's digital register before the trip starts, showing the pickup point and the start and end times. Police can check the driver, the vehicle and the contract. RYDES registers the contract for you. Details are on Mykonos car service.

Why is there a minimum price for a short trip?

Because Greek law treats a chauffeur trip as a timed hire. On Mykonos, from 1 April to 31 October, the minimum is 30 minutes with a minimum fare of €36, and from November to March it is 3 hours. During the contract the car cannot be hired to anyone else. So even a 5 km airport run is priced as at least the legal minimum.

How long is the drive from Mykonos Airport to Chora?

About 5 km, usually 10 to 15 minutes outside the season and 20 to 35 minutes in July and August. Cars cannot enter most of the old town, so the drop-off is the nearest permitted point and the last part is on foot. See JMK to Mykonos Town.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at JMK?

Wherever the pre-arrival message tells you, with the chauffeur's name, the vehicle and the plate. The standard pickup is free; meet and greet inside arrivals with a name board is a paid add-on. More on JMK airport transfers.

Which port does my ferry use?

All scheduled ferries, conventional and high-speed, have used the New Port at Tourlos since 2021, including the boats from Piraeus and Rafina. The Old Port on the Chora waterfront handles small boats, Delos excursions and some cruise tenders. Your chauffeur meets you at the harbour your vessel uses. See New Port transfers.

Is it hard to get a taxi at the New Port?

Often, in summer. Mykonos has a limited number of taxis, and a shortage at the New Port when large ferries arrive is widely reported. A pre-booked car follows your vessel and waits at the named point, so you skip the line. The Sea Bus to the Old Port, about every 30 minutes in season, is a good option for light luggage. Compare on taxi alternative.

Someone offered me a lift at the airport. Is that allowed?

No. Carrying paying passengers in a private car without a licence is illegal in Greece, and traffic police on Mykonos have arrested people for touting and for illegal transfers, with targeted checks continuing. Those cars have no registered contract and no passenger insurance. Use a licensed taxi or a pre-booked EIX.

Are VAT and airport charges included?

Yes. 13 percent VAT is inside every RYDES price, along with any airport charge for your pickup. There are no tolls on the island. The only things outside the price are paid parking if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges, and an optional gratuity at payment.

What is the climate resilience fee?

A charge billed by your accommodation per room per night, not by the transport. From April to October it is €2 at one- and two-star hotels, €5 at three stars, €10 at four, and €15 at five-star hotels and villas; short-term rentals pay €8 up to 80 m² and €15 above. Rates are lower from November to March.

Can I book a car for an evening of beach clubs and dinner?

Yes, and it is usually the right way to do it. Hourly hire holds the same car and chauffeur from lunch at Psarou to dinner in Chora and back to the villa, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments, or 3 hours between November and March under the island rules. See hourly chauffeur and beach club transfers.

Do you pick up from villas without a street address?

Yes. Many Mykonos villas sit on unmarked tracks. Share a map pin or the host's directions when booking and the fare is set to that exact spot. Some tracks are too steep or narrow for the largest vehicles, so the operator confirms the class that can reach the gate. See villa transfers.

I am arriving on a cruise ship. Can you meet me?

Yes. Give us the ship name and date. Some ships send passengers ashore by tender to the Old Port, and the pickup follows wherever your ship lands you. Mykonos had 762 cruise calls and about 1.22 million cruise passengers in 2025, so the waterfront is busy on big days. The €20 cruise passenger fee from June to September is charged separately. See Mykonos cruise port.

How much waiting time is included?

An hour at JMK, counted from when the wheels actually touch down. A quarter of an hour at the ports, hotels and villas. Beyond that, each further 15 minutes is charged at your vehicle class rate, and you hear about it before the first block begins.

How far ahead should I book on Mykonos?

No later than 3 hours before pickup, comfortably inside the legal rule that an EIX contract is registered 30 minutes ahead. For high summer, wedding weekends and group arrivals, reserve weeks or months early; the calendar opens twelve months out. Wedding logistics are on Mykonos wedding transportation.

Can you book my transfer in Athens or Santorini too?

Yes, as separate bookings with operators there. For the run to the ferry at Piraeus or Rafina, use Athens chauffeur service; for the next island, use Santorini chauffeur service. A Mykonos car stays on Mykonos.
