How Split gets booked.

Most visitors pass through Split on their way somewhere else: a ferry to Hvar, a villa on Čiovo, a hotel in Makarska. The car is the link between the runway and the next leg.

Airport transfers.

Split Airport sits at Kaštela, closer to Trogir than to the palace. Your flight is tracked, and the chauffeur allows 60 minutes free from the moment the aircraft is actually on the ground, which matters on a July Saturday when the baggage hall is full.

Intercity rides from Split

What is a Split chauffeur service?

A Split chauffeur service is a car with a professional driver, reserved in advance at a fixed price and carried out by an operator licensed for passenger transport in Croatia under the Road Transport Act. RYDES takes the booking; the local operator supplies the vehicle and the chauffeur. Nothing is hailed at the kerb and nothing is metered, whether the job is a Split Airport transfer, an hourly car service for a day at Krka, or a black car from the palace to a meeting in Kaštela.

Split is a city where the price of getting around changes with the season. A seat in a ride-hailing car on an August evening, after three cruise ships and a dozen charter flights have arrived, does not cost what it costs in March. A reserved Split car service is quoted once and stays quoted. VAT is included in the price, and so is any motorway toll on the route, which is the honest basis for calling it a taxi alternative rather than a luxury.

The same reservation runs the length of the coast. SPU to Trogir is a few minutes, SPU to the ferry port is under half an hour off-season, and the Makarska transfer and the long SPU to Dubrovnik run are priced the same way. For a wedding weekend, a sailing crew or a company retreat, group transportation and corporate travel by the hour use one fleet and one dispatch contact. Longer Split to Šibenik and Split to Zagreb runs are sold as single fares too.

The ways into Split.

One airport carries almost everyone, but the harbour is a gateway in its own right. Plenty of journeys start on a quay rather than a runway.

Times are door to door for a direct private vehicle. The summer column covers roughly mid-June to mid-September and is the honest planning figure for July and August, when the airport, the coast road and the harbour all run at their limit. A seasonal catamaran also links the airport area to Split harbour; your chauffeur does not need to be part of that journey.

Where your chauffeur meets you.

The airport is straightforward. The harbour and the old town are where local knowledge pays for itself, because the car cannot always go where the map suggests.

Split Airport.

Split Airport is on the coast at Kaštela, about 24 km west of the Riva and only around 5 km from Trogir. It handled 3,881,186 passengers in 2025, and the terminal was expanded in the summer of 2019 to take about 5 million a year. Almost all of that traffic arrives between May and October, so the arrivals hall on a peak weekend is busier than the annual figure suggests.

Your chauffeur names the exact meeting point in the message sent before you land, along with their name, the vehicle and its plate. We do not publish a fixed spot here because the right one depends on the terminal layout on the day and on how busy the forecourt is. Timing for the drive into town is on SPU to Split centre.

  • Standard pickup, the free defaultYour chauffeur waits at the meeting point named in the message and walks you to the car.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onChauffeur inside arrivals holding your name, useful with children, heavy luggage or a group arriving on different flights.
  • Going straight to a boatGive us the sailing time as well as the flight. If the flight is late, dispatch tells you early whether the sailing is still realistic.

The ferry port.

The Split ferry port sits at the eastern end of the Riva, next to the old town. Jadrolinija runs the car ferry to Stari Grad on Hvar, about two hours, with seven sailings a day in peak season. Catamarans to Hvar Town take about 55 to 65 minutes and are run by Jadrolinija, TP-Line and Kapetan Luka. Boats for Brač and Vis leave from the same harbour.

A chauffeur takes you to the port and you board as a foot passenger. The car does not cross with you. If you need a car waiting on Hvar, Brač or Vis, that pickup is handled by an operator based on the island and is confirmed at booking rather than promised automatically. Coming back, give us the boat you are on rather than its timetabled arrival, and the pickup moves with it.

Cruise days and the old town.

Split recorded 315 cruise visits in 2025, out of roughly 1.1 million cruise passengers for Croatia as a whole. On a busy day the harbour road is shared by coaches, taxis and pedestrians, so your chauffeur agrees a meeting point near your berth in the message sent before pickup.

Diocletian's Palace and the streets inside it are pedestrian. The roads around the centre are mostly one-way or reserved for buses, taxis and permit holders, and the city is widening its pedestrian zones. If your apartment is inside the walls, the car stops at the nearest point it is permitted to reach and the chauffeur helps with the cases from there. Dispatch confirms that point when you book.

Terminal and port details above were checked in October 2026. Ferry and catamaran timetables change by season and by year, so confirm your sailing with the shipping line, and treat your chauffeur's message as the authority on where to walk.

Tolls, VAT and the old-town rules.

What raises a fare around Split is distance on the motorway, the season and access to the centre. A booked car handles all three before you arrive.

The A1 motorway links Split with Šibenik, Zadar and Zagreb, and it is tolled. The full Zagreb to Split section costs about €26.40 for a car. Runs north to Krka, Zadar or Zagreb usually use it. When the route uses a tolled section, the toll is already in your RYDES price. The road to Dubrovnik now crosses the Pelješac Bridge, which is toll-free and avoids the old border crossing at Neum.

VAT is included in the price. So is the motorway toll, and so is any fee the airport charges a pre-booked car to collect. Parking is the one exception: if you ask the chauffeur to wait somewhere that charges, such as a public car park on a day trip, that cost is yours and you are told before it is incurred.

How charges reach the passenger in Split, by way of travelling from the airport. Bus and app fares are set by their operators and change with the season.

Croatia passed amendments to its Road Transport Act on 3 July 2026. They give cities per-vehicle taxi permits, treat Uber and Bolt as carriers, let the minister set maximum fares, require the maximum price and route to be shown in the app, introduce TX plates and toughen penalties. The date they take effect had not been confirmed when this page was written. None of it changes how a RYDES fare is built, because the price is fixed before the car is assigned. The side-by-side comparison is on Split taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Outside summer, the roads around Split are quick and the figures below look generous. In July and August they are not, and the second column is the one to plan from.

Saturday is the hardest day of the week from June to September. Charter flights, villa changeovers and yacht crews all move at once, and the airport road, the harbour and the Trogir approaches are slowest between late morning and early evening. For a ferry you cannot miss on a summer Saturday, plan to be on the quay well before boarding closes and let dispatch set the pickup time.

Leaving Split by road.

Every intercity run is one fixed fare for the whole journey. If the coast road stalls behind a coach at Omiš, that is the operator's problem rather than yours.

Your flight, tracked
Add the flight number and we follow it. Early or late, the pickup moves with the aircraft and the change costs nothing.
An hour at SPU
Sixty minutes of free waiting, counted from the actual landing time. Every other pickup, including the ferry port, includes 15 minutes free.

When you should not book us.

Split has cheap public options from the airport, and for some trips they are simply the sensible choice.

On your own, with a backpack, staying near the bus station or in Trogir, Promet bus 37 does the job. It leaves the airport every 20 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes at weekends, and runs to Sukoišan in Split and to Trogir in the other direction. In season there is also a catamaran from the airport area to Split harbour, which can drop you close to the island boats without touching the coast road at all.

A car makes sense in other situations: three or four big cases, children, a party of four or more, a late arrival with a sailing to catch, a villa on Čiovo or in the Kaštela hills, a day split between Trogir and Krka, or any Saturday in July and August when the 40-minute run to the Riva becomes 70. That is why most people book, but not every trip needs it, and we would rather say so up front. The full comparison is on Split taxi versus chauffeur.

Split questions.

If yours is not here, dispatch answers around the clock at +1 888 881 7933 or support@rydes.co.

How far is Split Airport from the city centre?

About 24 km by road. Split Airport (SPU) is at Kaštela, west of the city and close to Trogir. The drive to the Riva and Diocletian's Palace takes 25 to 35 minutes outside the season and 40 to 70 minutes in July and August. See SPU to Split centre.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Split Airport?

At the meeting point your chauffeur names in the message sent before you land, together with their name, the vehicle and the plate. Standard pickup is free. Meet and greet inside arrivals with your name on a board is a paid add-on. Details are on the Split Airport transfer page.

Can you take me from the airport straight to a ferry to Hvar?

Yes. Give us both the flight and the sailing, and the chauffeur drives you to the Split ferry port, about 24 km from SPU. The Jadrolinija car ferry to Stari Grad takes about two hours, and catamarans to Hvar Town take about 55 to 65 minutes. In summer, leave a wide margin between landing and boarding. See SPU to the ferry port.

Can the car come with me to Hvar, Brač or Vis?

No. The chauffeur delivers you to the port and you board as a foot passenger. If you want a car meeting you on the island, that is carried out by an operator based there, and we confirm it at booking rather than selling it automatically.

Who runs the boats from Split to Hvar?

Jadrolinija runs the car ferry from Split to Stari Grad, about two hours, with seven sailings a day in peak season. Catamarans to Hvar Town, about 55 to 65 minutes, are run by Jadrolinija, TP-Line and Kapetan Luka. Book the boat directly with the shipping line, and tell us which one you are on.

Can you drop me inside Diocletian's Palace?

Not at the door, because the palace and the old town are pedestrian. The streets around the centre are mostly one-way or reserved for buses, taxis and permit holders, and the pedestrian zones are growing. The car stops at the nearest point it is allowed to reach and the chauffeur helps with your luggage. Dispatch confirms the point when you book.

Are your Split chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Every Split booking is carried out by an operator licensed for passenger transport in Croatia under the Road Transport Act. Licence and insurance are checked before an operator can accept work through RYDES, not ride by ride.

What changed in Croatia's transport law in 2026?

Amendments to the Road Transport Act passed on 3 July 2026. They give cities per-vehicle taxi permits, treat Uber and Bolt as carriers, allow the minister to set maximum fares, require the app to show the maximum price and route, introduce TX plates and stiffen penalties. The date they take effect had not been confirmed when this was written. A RYDES fare is fixed at booking either way.

Are VAT and motorway tolls included?

Yes. VAT is included in the price, and so is any motorway toll on the route. The A1 from Zagreb to Split costs a car about €26.40, and the shorter sections towards Šibenik and Zadar are counted the same way. Parking at a stop where you ask the car to wait is the only cost outside the quote. See Split taxi versus chauffeur.

Is there a bus from Split Airport?

Yes. Promet bus 37 runs from the airport to Sukoišan in Split and to Trogir, every 20 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes at weekends. A seasonal catamaran also links the airport area with Split harbour. Travelling alone with light luggage, either is a reasonable choice.

How long is the drive from Split to Dubrovnik?

From Split Airport to the Pile Gate it is about 247 km, usually 3 hours 30 to 4 hours outside summer and 4 hours 15 to 5 hours 30 in July and August. The route crosses the toll-free Pelješac Bridge, open since July 2022, so there is no border crossing at Neum. See SPU to Dubrovnik and Split to Dubrovnik.

Can I visit Krka National Park and Šibenik in one day?

Yes, and booking by the hour usually works best. Skradin, the usual entry for Krka, is about an hour from SPU outside summer, and Šibenik is close by on the A1. The chauffeur waits while you walk. Paid car parks are outside the quote. See Krka National Park and hourly chauffeur hire.

Do you cover the Makarska Riviera?

Yes. Makarska is about 97 km from Split Airport, usually 1 hour 25 to 1 hour 45 outside summer and 2 hours to 2 hours 45 in July and August, priced as one fixed fare to the address. Omiš is on the way. See Makarska Riviera and SPU to Makarska.

How much free waiting do I get?

Sixty minutes at Split Airport, counted from the actual landing time, and 15 minutes at every other pickup, including the ferry port and hotels. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before it starts.

Can I book a chauffeur by the hour in Split?

Yes. Hourly hire has a two-hour minimum and is then sold in 30-minute increments. It suits a wedding day, a run of meetings, or a Trogir and Krka day trip. See hourly chauffeur in Split and wedding transportation.

How far ahead should I book in summer?

At least 3 hours before pickup is the minimum, and RYDES takes reservations up to a year ahead. For Saturdays in July and August, and for Ultra Europe, expected on 9 to 11 July 2027 at Park Mladeži, book as early as possible. Groups should see group transportation.

What happens if my flight is late or I miss my boat?

Add your flight number and we track it. A late arrival moves the pickup automatically at no cost, with free waiting starting from the actual landing. If a delay puts your sailing at risk, dispatch tells you early and can rebook the drive for a later boat. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.
