What people book in Vilnius.

A short airport hop is the smallest job here. The bookings that make most sense are the ones that leave the city or fill a working day.

What is a Vilnius chauffeur service?

A Vilnius chauffeur service is a private car and driver reserved in advance at a fixed euro price, with the journey carried out by an operator licensed for passenger transport in Lithuania under the country's Code of Automobile Transport, the Law on Road Transport. It is not flagged down and it is not matched to the nearest app driver. Car, chauffeur and fare are agreed before the day, whether you need a Vilnius Airport transfer, an hourly car service across the city or a black car for a visiting board.

Vilnius is an unusual case because its airport is so close. The drive from VNO to Cathedral Square is under 8 km, a train reaches the city station in about 7 minutes, and a taxi to the Old Town costs about €10. A reserved Vilnius car service does not try to beat that on price for one person with a backpack. What it offers is a known car, a named chauffeur, a fare that does not change at night or at the weekend, and room for a family or a team with all their bags, which is where it works as a taxi alternative.

Most of the value sits outside the city limits. Vilnius to Trakai for the island castle, Vilnius to Kaunas for business or a day in the second city, Druskininkai for the spa town in the south, and Vilnius to Riga when a Baltic itinerary continues by road. Each is one price for the whole trip, and the same account handles corporate travel in Vilnius for companies that move people through Lithuania regularly.

Airports for a Vilnius trip.

Almost everyone arrives at Vilnius Airport, which sits on the southern edge of the city. Two other airports appear on itineraries now and then, and both are long drives rather than transfers.

Times are door to door for a private car on a direct route. Peak here means weekday mornings around 07:30 to 09:30 and late afternoons around 16:30 to 18:30 on the approaches to the centre and the river bridges. Kaunas and Riga figures are planning ranges for the motorway, quoted to the exact address at booking.

Arriving at VNO.

Vilnius Airport is compact and close to town, and it has three public ways into the centre. Knowing what each one costs makes it easier to decide whether a car is worth it.

Vilnius Airport.

Vilnius Airport handled over 5.11 million passengers in 2025, a rise of 6.4 percent on the previous year. For a city of this size it is a busy airport, yet it sits so near the centre that the transfer is usually the shortest part of anyone's journey.

We do not publish a fixed meeting spot for VNO, because it can depend on the hour, the airline and roadworks outside. Your chauffeur names the exact meeting point in the message sent before you land, and tracks your flight so the pickup moves with it. The drive itself is covered on VNO to the Old Town and VNO to Litexpo.

  • Standard pickup, the free defaultYour chauffeur waits at the meeting point given in the pre-arrival message and walks you to the car.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onYour chauffeur stands in arrivals with your name, useful for first-time visitors and senior guests.
  • Flight changesAdd the flight number at booking. Delays and early arrivals move the pickup without a call from you.

The train and the buses.

The airport has its own railway stop. A train to Vilnius station costs €0.70 and takes about 7 minutes, but there are only around 16 departures a day, so the timetable rather than the journey time decides whether it suits you. From the station you still need to reach your hotel.

City buses are the everyday option. Routes 1, 2, 3G and 88 run between the airport and the centre for €1 bought from the driver, and the trip takes about 20 minutes. At night, route 88N takes over. For one traveller with light luggage and a hotel on a bus line, this is hard to argue with.

Airport taxis.

Taxis from VNO charge by the meter, within maximum rates: €1.45 to start, €1.01 per km in the daytime, €1.16 per km at night and at weekends, and €0.29 per minute of waiting. In practice the fare to the Old Town comes to about €10, and to Litexpo about €9.

Those are good prices, and we say so. The case for a reserved car is certainty rather than savings: a fixed fare agreed in advance, the vehicle class you chose, a chauffeur already watching your flight and no queue. For a group, a business visitor or anyone heading straight out to Trakai or Kaunas, that difference matters more than a few euros.

Fares and frequencies above come from the city's own visitor information and were checked in October 2026. The airport closed several times in late 2025 because of balloons drifting across the border; if a closure or diversion affects your flight, dispatch re-plans the pickup.

Road charges, VAT and the licence.

Driving in and around Vilnius involves very little in the way of road charges for a car. What makes up a fare is the distance, the time, VAT and the cost of a properly licensed operator, and a RYDES quote rolls all of it into one euro number.

Ordinary passenger cars do not pay a road toll on the routes in this guide, and you will not be asked to buy a car vignette. Lithuania's new Via Toll electronic tolling, which starts on 1 January 2027, is aimed at heavier vehicle categories rather than cars. If any route or vehicle class you book does carry a road charge, it is part of the RYDES price rather than an extra on the day.

VAT is included in the price, and RYDES prices on this page are in euros, Lithuania's currency. The operator carrying out your journey is licensed for passenger transport in Lithuania. Ride-hailing drivers in the country typically work under individual activity certificates, and airport taxis work within the maximum tariff set for the airport. Our chauffeurs belong to an operator with a fleet, insurance and a dispatch desk behind them.

The table is not there to make taxis look bad. Inside the city, a VNO taxi on the meter is cheap. The fixed fare matters more on the long runs, on a Friday night when demand jumps, and when you need a particular size of car waiting for a particular flight. The side-by-side comparison is on Vilnius taxi versus chauffeur.

How long the drives take.

Vilnius traffic is mild by European capital standards, but the river crossings and the roads into the Old Town do slow at rush hour. The motorways out to Trakai and Kaunas are the easy part.

Typical door-to-door driving times from Vilnius Airport for a direct private car.

Winter and big events move these numbers more than daily traffic. Snow and ice between December and March add time on every route out of the city, and the Light Festival, the Kaziukas Fair and Culture Night close streets in the centre. For a flight you cannot miss on one of those days, leave a third more time than the off-peak figure.

Out of Vilnius.

Day trips and onward runs are quoted as one fixed fare for the whole journey, so a slow stretch of motorway is the operator's concern and not yours.

When you should not book us.

Vilnius makes this section easy to write, because the airport is cheap and close and the public options are good.

Arriving alone with a small bag and staying near a bus stop in the centre, take bus 1, 2, 3G or 88 for €1 from the driver and be in town in about 20 minutes, or the 88N late at night. If the timetable lines up, the train is €0.70 and about 7 minutes to the station, though it runs only around 16 times a day. A metered taxi from VNO to the Old Town is about €10, and about €9 to Litexpo, within maximum rates of €1.45 to start and €1.01 per km by day.

A chauffeur is the better choice in other situations: three or more people with real luggage, children who need seats, a visiting executive who should not stand in a taxi line, a fixed fare on a Friday night, a day at Trakai Castle or Kaunas with the car waiting, or a cross-border run to Riga. That is why people book us here, and it is not everyone. The full side-by-side is on Vilnius taxi versus chauffeur.

Vilnius questions.

If yours is not here, dispatch answers around the clock at +1 888 881 7933 or support@rydes.co.

How far is Vilnius Airport from the city centre?

Close. Vilnius Airport (VNO) is about 7.6 km by road from Cathedral Square, usually 12 to 20 minutes by car off-peak and 20 to 35 minutes at rush hour. Užupis is a similar distance, and Litexpo is about 10.4 km. See VNO to the Old Town.

Where will my chauffeur meet me at Vilnius Airport?

Your chauffeur names the exact meeting point in the message sent before you land, along with their name, photo and plate. The standard pickup is free; being met inside arrivals with a name board is a paid add-on. Details are on the Vilnius Airport transfer page.

How much does a taxi from Vilnius Airport cost?

About €10 to the Old Town and about €9 to Litexpo. VNO taxis charge within maximum rates of €1.45 to start, €1.01 per km by day, €1.16 per km at night and at weekends, and €0.29 per minute of waiting. A RYDES fare is fixed in advance instead. The comparison is on Vilnius taxi versus chauffeur.

Is there a train from Vilnius Airport to the city?

Yes. A train from the airport stop to Vilnius railway station costs €0.70 and takes about 7 minutes, but there are only around 16 trains a day, so check the timetable against your landing time. Buses 1, 2, 3G and 88 run more often, for €1 from the driver, in about 20 minutes, with 88N at night.

Who licenses chauffeurs in Lithuania?

Paid passenger transport by road is regulated under Lithuania's Code of Automobile Transport, the Law on Road Transport. Every RYDES journey in Vilnius is carried out by an operator licensed for passenger transport in Lithuania, with its licence and insurance verified before it can accept a booking.

Is VAT included in a Vilnius chauffeur price?

Yes. VAT is included in the price, and every quote is in euros. Any road or airport charge that applies to your route is also inside it. The only cost outside the quote is paid parking, if you ask the chauffeur to wait somewhere that charges for it.

Do I need a vignette or pay tolls driving around Vilnius?

No car vignette is involved. Lithuania's Via Toll electronic tolling, starting on 1 January 2027, is aimed at heavier vehicle categories rather than cars. Either way, if a route or class you book carries a road charge, it is already in your RYDES price.

How do I get from Vilnius to Trakai Castle?

By car it is about 30 km from the airport, usually 35 to 45 minutes, a little longer on summer weekends. Book a fixed one-way fare, a return, or keep the car by the hour while you visit the island castle and eat by the lake. See Trakai Castle and Vilnius to Trakai.

How long is the drive from Vilnius to Kaunas?

About 104 km from Vilnius Airport, usually 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 by motorway, and up to 1 hour 50 at peak. It is one fixed fare door to door, and a return the same day can be booked hourly with a two-hour minimum. See Kaunas transfer and Vilnius to Kaunas.

Can you drive me from Vilnius to Riga?

Yes, once dispatch confirms the run at booking. Riga Old Town is about 301 km from Vilnius Airport, roughly 4 to 5 hours with a stop. Every passenger should carry a passport or ID card. See Vilnius to Riga and our Riga chauffeur service.

Do you serve events at Litexpo?

Yes. Litexpo is about 10.4 km from the airport, usually 18 to 25 minutes off-peak. For fairs such as the Vilnius Book Fair on 16 to 19 September 2027, book early and consider a Van or Group vehicle for delegations. See Litexpo transfers and VNO to Litexpo.

Can I hire a chauffeur by the hour in Vilnius?

Yes. Hourly hire has a two-hour minimum and is billed in 30-minute steps after that. The car waits between meetings, sightseeing stops or a wedding's church and reception, and paid parking is the only thing outside the quote. See hourly chauffeur in Vilnius.

How much free waiting do I get?

Sixty minutes at Vilnius Airport, counted from the moment the aircraft actually lands rather than the timetable. Every other pickup includes 15 free minutes. After that, waiting is charged in 15-minute steps at the class rate, and you are told before it starts.

What happens if my flight to Vilnius is delayed or diverted?

Share your flight number and the pickup follows the aircraft at no charge, with free waiting starting at the real landing time. If the airport closes or your flight is diverted, dispatch re-plans the pickup and re-briefs the chauffeur. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933.

When should I book ahead in Vilnius?

At least 3 hours before pickup, and RYDES accepts bookings up to a year out. Book well ahead for the Light Festival on 22 to 24 January 2027, the Kaziukas Fair on 5 to 7 March 2027, Night of Museums on 15 May 2027 and Culture Night on 12 June 2027. Companies with regular travel can set up corporate travel.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancel or change for free up to 24 hours before pickup. Inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full, because the vehicle and chauffeur are already held for you. Child seats and pets are paid add-ons; service animals travel free.
