What is a Palermo chauffeur service?

A Palermo chauffeur service is private ground transport booked ahead at a fixed price and carried out by an NCC operator, noleggio con conducente, licensed under Legge 21/1992, the national law for non-scheduled passenger transport by road. The NCC authorisation comes from the operator's comune, and every trip has to be booked with the operator in advance, which is exactly how a RYDES reservation works. RYDES arranges the booking; the licensed operator drives it, whether that is a Palermo airport transfer, an hourly car service in Palermo or a black car to a dinner in the centro storico.

The reason people book one here is distance. Palermo's airport sits about 32 km from the centre by road, further than most visitors assume, and the places worth going from it are spread across the west of the island. A taxi from the airport charges a fixed zone fare for the city and a meter beyond it; a reserved Palermo car service quotes the whole journey once, to Mondello or to Agrigento, and that number already contains the 10 percent IVA and any motorway toll on the way. The detailed comparison is on the Palermo taxi alternative page.

The same booking covers the rest of the region: PMO to Palermo centre, PMO to Mondello, PMO to Cefalù, PMO to San Vito Lo Capo, collections from Trapani airport to Palermo, and pickups at the Palermo cruise port for shore days in Monreale or Cefalù. Companies sending people to Sicily regularly can use corporate travel for central billing on the same licensed fleet.

The airports that serve Palermo.

Most arrivals land at Palermo Falcone Borsellino. Trapani matters for low-cost flights into the west, and Catania matters whenever Etna intervenes.

Drive times are door to door and assume a direct private car, not a shared shuttle. Peak means weekday rush hours in and out of the city, and summer weekend afternoons on the coast roads, when beach traffic adds more than the commute does. The night of the Festino di Santa Rosalia in mid-July sits outside both columns: plan it separately.

Where your chauffeur meets you.

Palermo's airport has one terminal and a long arrivals hall. Trapani is smaller still. The port is a short drive from the old town, and each of the three works slightly differently.

Palermo Falcone Borsellino.

Palermo Falcone Borsellino handled a record 9.2 million passengers in 2025, up 3.3 percent, and topped one million in July 2025 alone, 1,012,058 to be precise. About a third of its traffic is international. In practice that means a busy arrivals hall in summer and a queue at the taxi rank that grows with every wave of flights.

NCC cars collect at arrivals, but a single designated NCC zone has not been confirmed for this page, so we do not invent one. Your chauffeur sends the exact meeting point in the message that reaches you before you land, and the car is called forward when you are through baggage reclaim. The drive itself is described on PMO to Palermo centre.

  • Standard pickup, the free defaultYour chauffeur names the meeting point at arrivals and brings the car to you once you have your bags.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onThe chauffeur waits inside the arrivals hall with your name, useful with children, a large group or a first visit.
  • Diverted from CataniaIf Etna ash sends your flight to Palermo instead, dispatch re-books the pickup and can price the road leg to the east.

Trapani.

Trapani airport passed one million passengers in both 2023 and 2024, and Ryanair has based aircraft there again since January 2026, so more low-cost routes now land in the far west of the island. It is a small airport with a short walk from baggage reclaim to the kerb, and the chauffeur confirms the meeting point by message the same way.

For anyone staying in Trapani or Erice, Marsala or San Vito Lo Capo, it is often the closer arrival by a long way. For Palermo itself the trade is about 88 km of road to PMO, plus the run into the city, in exchange for a cheaper fare; the timing is on Trapani airport to Palermo.

The cruise port.

The port of Palermo welcomed 996,484 cruise passengers in 2025, and it sits on the edge of the centro storico rather than out of town. Shore days usually come down to three choices: the cathedral at Monreale above the city, the beach at Mondello, or the longer run east along the coast to Cefalù.

Your chauffeur meets you at the port with the meeting point confirmed by message, and an hourly booking holds the car for the whole shore visit, so the run back to the ship is not left to chance. The times below are approximate and assume a normal weekday.

  • Port to MonrealeAbout 25 to 40 minutes, uphill out of the city. See Palermo to Monreale.
  • Port to MondelloAbout 25 to 40 minutes, longer on summer weekends. See Mondello.
  • Port to CefalùAbout 1 h 10 to 1 h 30 along the coast. See Cefalù.

Airport and port figures above were checked against public sources in October 2026. Meeting points can move during works or on busy days, so treat the message from your chauffeur as the authority on where to walk.

Fares, ZTL and the tourist tax.

Palermo's airport publishes fixed taxi fares to parts of the city, which makes it one of the easier places in Italy to compare honestly. What else reaches a traveller here is the restricted traffic zone in the centre and the tax your hotel adds.

The airport's own fixed taxi fares are €39 to the Viale Michelangelo and Viale Lazio area, €44 to Corso Calatafimi and Corso Vittorio Emanuele, and €50 to Stazione Centrale and Brancaccio. A shared taxi costs €10 a person with a minimum of four. Those are fair numbers, and we use them as the benchmark. A RYDES fare is fixed before the day rather than at the rank, includes the 10 percent IVA and any motorway toll on the route, and applies equally to an address outside the taxi zones, which is where the fixed fares stop.

The centro storico is a ZTL, a camera-enforced zona a traffico limitato. In 2026 it runs Monday to Friday 08:00 to 20:00. In the summer timetable, 1 May to 31 October, it also covers Friday 20:00 to 24:00, Saturday 00:00 to 06:00 and 20:00 to 24:00, and Sunday 00:00 to 06:00; from 1 November the evening extensions start at 23:00 instead. Mondello has its own evening ZTL, 20:00 to 24:00, from 8 May to 30 September 2026. Taxis and NCC vehicles of up to nine seats need white-list authorisation to enter, so dispatch confirms ZTL access for your address before the car is sent, and if it cannot enter, the drop-off is at the nearest permitted point. A car is never promised onto a pedestrian street.

The imposta di soggiorno is charged by your accommodation, not in the fare. Since 1 July 2025 it is €5 per person per night at five-star hotels, €4.50 at four-star, €4 at three-star, €3.50 at two-star and €3 at one-star, with B&Bs and short lets at €4, for the first four nights. Under-12s are exempt.

How charges reach the passenger arriving at Palermo airport, by way of travelling. Taxi fares are the airport's published fixed fares; bus and train fares are the operators' own.

Tolls on Italian motorways rose about 1.5 percent on average in 2026, and many are paid electronically through Telepass. Whether a given route uses a tolled stretch is the operator's decision about the fastest road, and it never changes what you were quoted. The full side-by-side is on Palermo taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

The figures that circulate online are free-flow times with an empty road. These ranges are what a chauffeur plans for, from the airport, with the coast and the city behaving normally.

PMO to Marsala1 h 30 to 1 h 451 h 45 to 2 h 10About 103 km, past Trapani to the south

Summer, not winter, is what moves these numbers in western Sicily. July and August afternoons on the coast, a Friday evening out of the city, and the nights of the Festino in mid-July all push past the right-hand column. For a flight you cannot miss in high season, add half the off-peak time again as a buffer.

Further across Sicily.

Longer runs are priced as one fixed fare for the whole journey, not by the kilometre, so a slow stretch of road is the operator's concern rather than yours.

Marsala103 km1 h 30 to 2 h 10On the west coast beyond Trapani, often combined with it

Catania207 km2 h 40 to 3 h 30Measured from the Catania airport side; the right call when ash closes one of the two airports

Agrigento and Catania are long enough that the class of car matters, so First class or an SUV is worth considering. For eastern Sicily, see chauffeur service in Catania, which works from the other side of the island with its own licensed operator.

When you should not book us.

Palermo has a usable airport bus, a train, and fixed taxi fares that are reasonable. For some trips, one of those is simply the better choice.

Travelling alone with a carry-on to a hotel near Politeama, the Prestia e Comandè bus costs €6.00 online or €6.50 on board and takes about 40 minutes to Politeama, about 50 to Stazione Centrale. The regional train costs €6.80 and takes about 51 to 69 minutes to Palermo Centrale. Two or three people going to an address inside the fixed-fare zones can take the airport taxi at €39, €44 or €50, and four strangers can share one for €10 each.

A chauffeur is worth paying for in other situations: a late or delayed arrival, children and luggage, a destination outside the taxi zones such as Mondello, Monreale, Cefalù or Trapani, a day with several stops, a diverted flight from Catania, or a fixed time at the port to make. That covers most of the reasons people book us, not every journey, and we prefer to say so. The full comparison is on Palermo taxi versus chauffeur.

How far is Palermo airport from the city centre?

About 32 km by road, which surprises many visitors. A private car usually takes 35 to 45 minutes off-peak and 50 to 75 minutes at busy times or on summer weekends. Mondello is closer, about 25 km. See PMO to Palermo centre and PMO to Mondello.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Palermo airport?

At arrivals. Palermo Falcone Borsellino has one terminal, and your chauffeur sends the exact meeting point by message before you land, then brings the car forward once you have your bags. Meet and greet inside the arrivals hall with a name board is a paid add-on. Details are on Palermo airport transfers.

What does a taxi from Palermo airport cost?

The airport publishes fixed taxi fares: €39 to the Viale Michelangelo and Viale Lazio area, €44 to Corso Calatafimi and Corso Vittorio Emanuele, and €50 to Stazione Centrale and Brancaccio. A shared taxi is €10 per person with a minimum of four. Outside those zones the fixed fares do not apply. Compare on the Palermo taxi alternative page.

Is there a bus or train from Palermo airport?

Yes. The Prestia e Comandè bus costs €6.00 online or €6.50 on board and takes about 40 minutes to Politeama and 50 minutes to Stazione Centrale. The regional train costs €6.80 and takes about 51 to 69 minutes to Palermo Centrale. Travelling alone with light luggage to the centre, either is a sensible choice.

Are your Palermo chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Every journey is carried out by an NCC operator, noleggio con conducente, authorised by its comune under Legge 21/1992. NCC trips must be booked in advance, and NCC cars cannot take street hails. The Constitutional Court struck down the rule forcing cars back to the garage after every job (ruling 56/2020), and the 2024 decree's 20-minute booking minimum was annulled in 2025 (TAR Lazio, and Constitutional Court ruling 163/2025).

Are IVA and tolls included in the price?

Yes. The 10 percent IVA that applies to NCC transport and any motorway toll on the route are inside the price you accept at booking, in euros, along with any airport or port collection fee. Paid parking and the tourist tax charged by your hotel are the only costs outside it.

Can the car drive into Palermo's ZTL?

Taxis and NCC vehicles of up to nine seats need white-list authorisation to enter the zona a traffico limitato. Dispatch confirms ZTL access for your address before the car is sent, and if the car cannot enter, the drop-off is at the nearest permitted point. Pedestrian streets are never promised. In 2026 the ZTL runs weekdays 08:00 to 20:00, with evening and night extensions in summer.

Does the ZTL apply in Mondello?

Yes, in the evening. In 2026 Mondello has a ZTL from 20:00 to 24:00 between 8 May and 30 September. Dispatch checks access for your hotel or restaurant in advance, and the drop-off moves to the nearest permitted point if needed. See Mondello.

What is the tourist tax in Palermo?

It is charged by your accommodation, not included in any fare. Since 1 July 2025 it is €5 per person per night at five-star hotels, €4.50 at four-star, €4 at three-star, €3.50 at two-star and €3 at one-star, and €4 at B&Bs and short lets, for the first four nights. Children under 12 are exempt.

My flight to Catania was diverted to Palermo. Can you help?

Yes. Etna ash closed Catania airport at times in July, August and September 2026, and flights were diverted to Palermo. Add your flight number and the pickup follows the aircraft; dispatch can re-book you to PMO and price the road leg east, about 207 km and roughly 2 h 40 to 3 h 30. See Palermo to Catania.

Should I fly into Trapani instead of Palermo?

If you are staying in Trapani, Erice, Marsala or San Vito Lo Capo, Trapani is often the closer arrival, and Ryanair has based aircraft there again since January 2026. For Palermo itself, Trapani airport is about 88 km from Palermo airport, around 1 h 15 to 1 h 50 by car, and the centre is a further 32 km beyond that. See Trapani airport to Palermo.

How long is the drive from Palermo airport to Cefalù?

About 104 km, usually 1 h 30 to 1 h 45 off-peak and up to about 2 h 20 at busy times or on summer weekends. It is priced as one fixed fare to your hotel. See PMO to Cefalù and Cefalù.

Can I do a day trip to Agrigento from Palermo?

Yes. The Valley of the Temples at Agrigento is about 161 km from Palermo airport, usually 2 h 45 to 3 h 30 by car each way. Most people book the car by the hour for the day so the chauffeur waits during the visit, instead of two separate transfers. See Agrigento and Palermo to Agrigento.

Do you pick up from the Palermo cruise port?

Yes. The port, which handled 996,484 cruise passengers in 2025, is on the edge of the centro storico. Shore days usually go to Monreale or Mondello, each about 25 to 40 minutes, or Cefalù, about 1 h 10 to 1 h 30. An hourly booking keeps the car with you until you are back on board. See the Palermo cruise port.

How much waiting time is included?

Sixty minutes free at the airport, counted from the actual landing time, which covers baggage reclaim on a busy summer day. Every other pickup includes 15 minutes. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before it starts.

When should I book for the Festino di Santa Rosalia?

As early as possible. The main night is 14 July and the procession is on 15 July, when the centre closes to traffic, so drop-offs are planned around the closures. The Targa Florio road race, whose 110th edition ran in mid-May 2026, is another busy period. Bookings need at least 3 hours' notice and can be made up to a year ahead. See hourly chauffeur hire.

Can I book a car by the hour in Palermo?

Yes. Hourly bookings have a two-hour minimum and run in 30-minute increments, and the chauffeur waits between stops, which suits a day between the Cathedral, Monreale and lunch at the coast, or a wedding. Paid parking at a stop is the one cost outside the quote. See hourly chauffeur in Palermo and wedding transportation.
